Re: Mahindra XUV700 AX5 Select variant launched at Rs 16.89 lakh

Now that manufacturers are introducing so many variants, what stops them from letting mix-matching features by an individual and let them decide? Name it XUV 7OO Individual.
Earlier, it might have been a supply chain and assembly issue. With so many variants to keep track of, that issue looks like it is resolved with significant scale for every component achieved!

Exactly, Mahindra does offers the curtain airbags but the front seats airbag were never offered in AX5.
Just checked, you're right. Curtain airbags are present but no airbag tag is written on the seats and these are black fabric ones. Basically 4 airbags then for such an expensive car

I don't get the use of the side airbags present in the front seats how does it protect the vehicle occupants

Mahindra has announced the launch of a new mid-spec variant of the XUV700, called the AX5 Select (AX5 S). It is priced at Rs 16.89 lakh for the petrol and Rs 17.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the diesel version.
Instead of naming it AX5S they should have named it as AX3+ or AX3(O), for a price of 17-17.5 Lakhs it should have got ESP and alloy wheels, I think before they launch such lame trims they should take a opinion from the public/customers

I believe the use of airbags in the seat is to push the torso of the occupants away from the impact and to cushion when your body returns to that position. Side curtain airbags from my understanding offers protection mainly for the head and maybe maximum to your shoulder.

And again, you can never be too safe. So even if the side curtain may suffice, seat airbags might help mitigate the impact more.

The 6+1 knee protection airbag were offered even on the XUV300 W8 variant at the time of its initial release. It’s a hard pill to swallow that they aren’t standard on their flagship cars so many years later.

Oh I get it now thanks.

The XUV300 was the first and only one to have 7 airbags in the segment and in the update I think they removed the 17" wheels for the 16" wheels right

Re: Mahindra XUV700 AX5 Select variant launched at Rs 16.89 lakh

So we have a 3XO starting at 8 Lacs having Six Airbags and an XUV700 which requires one to shell out close to 20+ Lacs ex showroom to get 6 Airbags from the same manufacturer!!

This clearly indicates huge inconsistency from Mahindra in terms of their stand on Safety. Having standard 6 Airbags on Scorpio, Thar and XUV700 is long over due now. The main reason they are not doing this is to push higher variants.

Soon, car manufacturers would start mandating aptitude tests for their prospective buyers so that they could make sense of their variant spread.

Here's a novel thought car-makers: why not 3 variants?

Base: With the critical safety and comfort features

Mid: Base + the most popular features

Top: All the features

How hard could that be?

A key reason why Punch, Creta and Nexon are among the highest selling Non-Maruti cars is the sheer number of variants in terms of features, engines (Fuels like Petrol, Diesel, CNG, EV, Turbo, non-turbo), transmissions.

With the increasing competition, brands try to ensure there is a Car for everyone in a large budget range of 8-10 lacs which covers approx 2x amount of the entry level variant.

As a customer, it may seem confusing but that also ensures that I pay for 80-90% of the car that I actually want rather than being pushed to buy top-end or compromise with mid variants.

There have been multiple discussion on this forum itself where members asked Sunroof as an option and that's exactly what Tata provides among its 90-100 variants! I would rather spend an additional hour to figure out my perfect variant than spending additional money to purchase the features I do not want.

Wishful, but in reality:

Base: sticker price to attract customers to showrooms

Mid: few basic and many unwanted features, tempting you to upgrade to top eg: Gadgets and sunroof

Top: Often safety comes here

Re: Mahindra XUV700 AX5 Select variant launched at Rs 16.89 lakh

XUV7OO is a phenomenal car. However, the feature distribution makes it unusable except in top variants.

When a car does have 200BHP, I do not know how one can even think of skipping the ESP. And, this also shows the dark reality of consumer preferences where a consumer can not buy a car without a Sunroof but is happy to skip life-saving safety features like 6 Airbags and ESP.

This AX5 Select variant is designed for Budget-conscious consumers if one overlooks safety.

It could have been irresistible if they had replaced the sunroof with 6 Airbags, ESP, and Cruise Control. That's it. That's a perfect car for most people.

At just 50K extra Toyota Hycross GX Petrol offers more space and Toyota's reliability with all safety kit packed including 6 airbags.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 AX5 Select variant launched at Rs 16.89 lakh

I just found something interesting. I was just randomly browsing and this caught my eye.

Size: 68.7 KB

But in the brochure, ESP is mentioned only from AX5 variants.

If the ESP is present only from AX5, then how come Mahindra mentioned it as key feature in AX3 variants line-up.

I realized it has a star attached to it. Then I went and read the T&C star section.

Mahindra XUV700 AX5 Select variant launched at Rs 16.89 lakh-screenshot-20240524-120947.png

It mentions the following specific: "Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is available on AX5 Diesel, AX7 (Both Diesel and Petrol), AX7 Luxury (Both
Diesel and Petrol) and all Automatic variants"

So, ESP is available by default for all Automatic variants.

I don't know why genius folks at Mahindra has to bury this at the bottom of the brochure with an ant size font.

It's available even on MX but as option and costs an additional 50k. All these variants which you see with the (E) attached to the variant name like MX Petrol (E) or AX3 Diesel (E) have ESP. The only difference between the (E) and non (E) variant on MX, AX3 and AX5 is ESP.

For all these variants mentioned in this list, ESP is standard. For others, it can be opted at 50k.

I so wish to have a variant where I can have everything of AX7L but devoid of ADAS. That would be my first choice for a custom(individual) variant
