Seen some articles last year which says poor Toyota is earning only Rs.45000/- per Fortuner . They are doing us a favor by selling this cheap. Still we greedy Indians complain that their pricing is unfair [Pun intended]

Then add road tax of 12% in Mumbai = Total 122.57

Add another 2.5 L for CHA fees, shipping line fees, Custodian fees etc

I expect Rs 125L before insurance costs

Yep, people are forgetting the GST and Cess. The ridiculous tax on tax and finally another road tax on the already taxed value is what makes non-compromised cars socialist country tier expensive here.

I understand that GST is applicable only on the sale of a car. Any IGST may be applicable. Any CAs or people who have imported cars post GST implementation on the forum, please enlighten us.

IGST and Cess are applicable as you can’t have a situation where locally manufactured cars pay GST + Cess of 50% while imports remain exempt from it. No govt would do such harm to domestic industry and be re-elected.

Whenever I see these ridiculous prices quoted here in India, human nature sets in.

I straightaway google Singapore prices and feel a whim of satisfaction. Please don't start crucifying me by stating the infrastructure and transport facilities of that country, just comparing the cost of ownership.

I take care of Vehicle Homologation (Heavy Earthmoving Machinery) in my company so can give you some idea on this.

- Even if you try to involve Toyota India, they will not respond to you as this Vehicle is not CMVR Certified in India.

- To import this vehicle in India you will require CMVR equivalent certificate (Eg EU/ECE certificate) from Toyota Japan which needs to be submitted to CIRT Pune (Not any other Test Agency in this particular case). Definitely Toyota Japan will also not respond to you as these certificates are highly confidential in nature.

- Now the only way is to approach some Agent who will have guide you across this.

- If the agent is able to import this Car then you will have Registration issues, since your vehicle details are not available on E-Vahan.

- Now this car will be registered manually out of E-Vahan and RTOs will ask you various kind of documents, declarations to register this car manually and may ask you the Road worthiness certificate from Toyota Japan. (Depends upon RTO since it is a manual registration).

So, technically it is a cumbersome process.

Also, after buying this vehicle, Parts availability/Service support will be a challenge and expensive affair.

What's most interesting here is that the LC and Vellfire are similarly priced in Japan, but there is a whopping difference here in India.

Always knew the LC was overpriced here, but never realised the extend to which it was. Now imagine how much more successful it would be if they can bring it to Vellfire's price levels, but knowing Toyota that is not happening.

Re: Toyota Land Cruiser 250 launched at 28L in Japan | How can we import to India without Toyota's h

OP, I love you. Do it if you can spend 2.5x of the Japanese price. Parts will be available but for that:

1. There will be considerable downtime
2. Please ensure that service and essentials are available quicker. Toyota may import parts for you but again, that would be expensive.
LCs have notoriously good reliability, so that's case and point to support your decision
3. RTO will not refuse registration but will irritate you a bit and you'd need to grease some palms

Get in touch with some exotic car importers, they might help you but you'd have to pay a commission as well, which is there to reduce your headache

People have Yukons and Corvettes running around in India, so your plan is far from impossible

I wish I could do it too.
P.S if you get bored with it after 7-10 years, please get in touch with me

So LC 300 base petrol will cost around : 28Lx 3.15 = 88L
LC 300 diesel top end : 43Lx 3.15 = 1.35 CR

This 215% quote that your importer gave; does this include RTO, road tax, insurance and registration charges?

Re: Toyota Land Cruiser 250 launched at 28L in Japan | How can we import to India without Toyota's h

Raw end of the deal for us.

Unless Indian manufacturers step up their game to deliver on QC and reliability, people here will have to shell out big bucks for decent cars.

That being said, how can Japan manufacture a top-end LC at 8 Mn Yen/ 43L INR? I've been inside older-generation Land Cruisers: they are well-built with good finishes and excellent mechanicals. The labour costs & overheads in Japan must be much higher in Japan.

Both Vellfire & Land Cruiser are quite 'plush' on the inside, difficult to wrap my head around the sub-50L INR price in Japan for these cars. I've taken a couple of TDs of Indian cars (Tata & Mahindra) recently, and they now seem quite overpriced for their spec and quality of interiors.

Well, this made me think. Can we import a used car like a used GMC Yukon or Denali as they may have depreciated much??

This is how. A 10 lakh rupee ex-factory Seltos becomes a 14 lakh rupee Seltos ex-showroom, and a 17 lakh Rupee seltos on-road.

The government makes 7 lakh rupees per 17 lakh rupee car.

Now imagine how much the govt makes from a Fortuner.
