Jeep Meridian facelift teased ahead of launch

Jeep is gearing up to launch the Meridian facelift in India later this year. The carmaker has released a teaser image giving us a glimpse of the changes made to the 3-row SUV.

The Jeep Meridian facelift is likely to feature subtle styling updates, including redesigned front and rear bumpers and reprofiled headlamps. The interior will be similar to the current model but might get new seat upholstery, among other minor changes.

The upcoming Meridian facelift might also get additional features like a front and rear dashcam and an air purifier. Currently, the SUV is equipped with a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, ambient lighting and more.

Jeep is expected to retain the same 2.0-litre diesel engine, which puts out 168 BHP and 350 Nm. It will be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic transmission. The Meridian is also likely to get a petrol engine option in the future.

Jeep will do everything but not bring the Compass Petrol. How can one not understand Indian market even after being here for so many years and having other OEMs as references is beyond understanding.

Re: Jeep Meridian facelift teased ahead of launch

Glad to see they are still investing, but too little and too late.

new Safari is VFM ( though driving dynamics of Meridian is few segments high ).

- Indian consumers love gizmos ( will be a big miss if there is no ADAS in that price range ).
- IMO, they should place the 2 L turbo pertol ( from Wrangler ) in Meridian or bring in their plug in hybrid options )

- While the 2L diesel is a gem, its old and noisy.

Jeep Meridian Facelift teaser picture?

Spotting a Meridian out in the street is like a teaser already. Have Spotted more Pandas (yes the bear) than a Meridian.

Re: Jeep Meridian facelift teased ahead of launch

When Jeep launched the Meridian in India a couple of years back, they removed the following features from the International Meridian (Jeep Commander) and made it the Indian variant.

1. Removed sliding second row seat and made it fixed. (This is a big miss as it drastically reduced the second and third row seating flexibility in the Meridian).

2. Removed second row removable headrest - this is not acceptable from the safety perspective in a Rs 45 lakh car.

3. Removed 3 point seat belt in Indian variant and replaced with lap belt. - not a good decision from the safety perspective.

Not sure who gives OEMs this wierd idea to penny pinch on these crucial features and remove them in the Indian variant, that too in an expensive car.
Just give the International feature loaded car and charge the additional amount.

Re: Jeep Meridian facelift teased ahead of launch

Meridian face-lift news is like some actor, a non starter whose movies very few people see. And after this actor gets the best dresses available in the world into his wardrobe and does all sorts of medical procedures to look attractive, the audience still rejects him.

Hence a face-lift or no face-lift ; who is bothered?

Re: Jeep Meridian facelift teased ahead of launch

Well, I am yet to see a Meridian on the road here in Pune. It is a rare breed. I do hope Jeep stays in India and brings that 2.0L Turbo Petrol. Also, any facelift without ADAS will be a blunder.

Re: Jeep Meridian facelift teased ahead of launch

If god could give me a superpower, I would want to listen into the board room discussions of these companies. Wonder what they discuss and how they strategize?

Not that Meridian facelift should not be launched, but my question is how do you build confidence in the customer to even walk into your showroom. How much ever gullible a customer might be, they surely do perceive the lack of Jeep cars on the road, and getting them to plonk almost 5 million rupees on a car that he / she hardly has spotted on roads must be an uphill task.

They surely want to play the premium card and hence do not want to compete in the zone of XUVs and the Safari. But not sure what they are doing to build that brand.

Would love to see competent products from them for sure. And I just hope we Indians continue to get global products from global companies.

Re: Jeep Meridian facelift teased ahead of launch

I really pity the manufacturers who don’t sell good numbers in India. When they don’t bring their international product they are being slammed.
What Jeep tries is to give us international products. Let’s give them a supporting hand for that decision.
The discussion on not being successful in the Indian market is a different topic which is applicable for the majority of the car manufacturers in India who can be trolled upon.

I've had the same thought. And while its easy to put the blame on "marketing", in India, at such auto companies, those guys don't define the product; they way its done in FMCG companies. Their role is more Marcom and events.

The decision on what to launch is often a complex financial one, supported by very flawed consumer research. Indian consumers hate saying anything negative to researchers, so everything is good or slightly better. Any many research agencies are pretty happy handing our cookie cutter research methodologies that may be valid internationally but don't ever work in India without a lot of additional work.

And of course the global bosses only want to see the globally accepted methodologies, however faulty their outcomes. That's why seemingly bizarre product/pricing offerings get launched with market withdrawals or deep discounts just a few quarters later.

Stellantis has a special knack for turning victory into defeat.

1. Uno. wonderful car, though not very modern, pricing did not reflect that and they insisted on using the premier inherited dealership.. terrible aftersales service

2. Siena/Palio - finally a modern car that was great for Indian roads. Well priced but the same dealership woes. and then they fold the service into the one company that had worse service than them at that time - Tata.

3. Linea/ Grande Punto - thoroughly modern cars, but the linea was priced closer to C segment sedans (Optra et al) than B+ which is where the chassis belonged. and of course.. Tata service. And the reboots were also flawed (they launched the turbo petrol without an intercooler at first, AFAIK)

4. Jeep innings: wonderful car. though slightly expensive when launched. Sales took off like a rocket. the rational thing to do was to sustain/grow volumes and build a case for further localisation in order to reduce BOM cost & increase profit that way-- instead they increase the price by over 50% over the next few years. net result, double digit decline in sales.

5. Citroen C5.. needs no intro. great car but at that price, would you buy one?... ditto c3 aircross, no climate control, seriously?

this is why Indian companies are now rocking. (and I include Maruti in that cohort). There consumer work is able to cut through to things that matter and they have got the product act together.)

Re: Jeep Meridian facelift teased ahead of launch

Hope Jeep India brings in some real sense of third row improvements for Meridian or else it will be a publicity stunt that would fail big time defending its rivals. JEEP has become a substitute for Stellantis ever since Citroen is launched in India and it is evident to see this in the dealer network operations specifically in service vertical.

It is also heard that Jeep is also getting a C-SUV for this segment sometime next year. Not sure where the brand is directing.

Jeep Meridian facelift spotted testing; to get ADAS

Jeep is gearing up to launch the Meridian facelift in India later this year. The SUV, which was teased during the launch of the Wrangler, has now been spotted testing.

The Meridian is expected to receive a minor nip and tuck, including revised headlamps as well as front and rear bumpers. The interior will be similar to the current model but might get new seat upholstery, among other minor changes.

The latest spy images suggest that the Meridian is likely to get Level 2 ADAS. Besides this, Jeep might also offer features like a front and rear dashcam and an air purifier.

The updated Meridian will carry forward the same 2.0-litre diesel engine, which puts out 168 BHP and 350 Nm. It will be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic transmission. The Meridian is also likely to get a petrol engine option in the future.

For a car that does 95 units in a good month, how does things like this even get to the drawing board?

Think of it as an update to all Right Hand Drive (RHD) markets where Jeep exports its Made-in-India products like Compass and Meridian, the bigger picture becomes clearer. Jeep leadership in India seem to be content exporting Made in India jeeps to RHD markets and selling the 2.0L Diesel to Tata, MG. They need to act fast to arrest the decline by launching something like Avenger ICE into Creta segment which is growing very fast.

As you have might observed in the latest ANCAP (Australian NCAP) Scorpio scored a zero star rating due to lack of active safety systems. Similarly India made Jeep products would be treated with zero stars if they were to be crash tested, hence the update required to comply with the regulation.

Currently, I believe Compass exported to Australia from India, and Compass+Meridian (sold as Commander) to Japan. So, eventually, you will see Compass being updated with active safety features.
