If not for a manual transmission they should plan for a base variant, they don't even have a mid trim for the Meridian and only got fully loaded trims and it being obnoxiously priced at more than 35 lakhs price bracket it won't see takers. Though, Jeep India are comparing it with the Toyota Fortuner it actually is a worthy competitor to the XUV700, Scorpio-N, Safari, Hycross and not to the Body on Frame SUVs. The Jeep will not stand a chance against the Fortuner due to its size, road presence, performance and especially its reliability, they definitely got to price it more aggressively

Exactly ! Meridian desperately needs better engines - Both Diesel & Petrol

Better diesel engine or the same engine with a better tune, if that’s possible.

A petrol engine, preferably the 2.0 turbo petrol

Also Jeep India should have considered local manufacturing of 2.0 turbo petrol engine. Apart from Meridian, the same would have helped them to price Wrangler and Cherokee competitively even with hybrid options.
