Well, I have not experienced it myself but as per some posts here on the tbhp, ADAS has proven to be life-saving. It definitely needs further refinement but still it must not be ignored for the sake of safety, which is always circumspect on our roads.

Re: Scoop! Citroen Basalt SUV Coupe spotted testing in Chennai

Have owned the C3 turbo for 4 months and 2500 kms. 90% of these kms have been on very fast highway runs. I would like to pen down the major plus and minus and the intended customer base for Citroen

Their cars are ideal for people who:

- appreciate engineering and comfort instead of superfluous frills
- do a lot of highway trips ( the car is in its element here)
- need comfortable seats
- want something different and are willing to put up with the quirks

Plus points

- the turbo engine and the sweet shiting 6 speed gearbox. Engine has vibes especially when cold to remind you it's a three cylinder but once warmed up its smooth and quiet
- the steering feel , especially at higher triple digit speeds
- good mechanical grip ( I have switched to Verdesteins on the same size)
- powerful aircon
- comfortable seats with good support
- zero effort needed to close doors and trunk. Almost like soft close function!
- EVM Trivandrum dealership treats you in the same way as a BMW customer very few around so gets unique attention at service center. Also top marks to the dealer and service center ambience and cleanliness. Especially compared to Tata motors Derik and Trivandrum Motors service center lounges that resemble truck workshops now due to the sheer volume of people and cars. There is no place even to sit there.

Minuses

- turbo engine is not ideal for city exclusive folks especially manual. The gush of power is abrupt and there are jerks and driveline shunts at slow speeds, typical of three cylinder engine and fuelling is not perfect at slow speeds
- major misses like lack of auto retract mirrors ( addressed now) and slippery flap door handles
- poor horn ( although I changed them)
- high rear door sill for older people to lift up their legs especially when getting out
- no passenger side grab handle. My dad is especially irked by this
- traction control is poorly engineered resulting in a long beep every time one of the front wheels falls into a ditch or rut at speeds. I think in the interests of cost cutting ,only the front wheels are linked to the system and the moment one wheel lifts up it unnecessarily raises this long beep. Can be frustrating especially when driving over under construction highway roads in Kerala at speed.
- wooly steering feel at city speeds. Even though light , it doesn't have the beautiful olive oil like smoothness of the tigor rack.

So to sum up, unless Citroen screws up the Basalt pricing, the product is decent and has a shot at success. Although the performance might be little lesser than the C3 due to the added weight.

For those who want a well engineered pocket rocket, the updated C3 with 6 airbags and other added goodies makes a compelling case now ,more than ever. I think the crash rating will also go up leaps and bounds as the structure was already rated as stable.

Signing off with some pics of mine

Updates done
- Verdestein tyres
- underbody coating at dealer
- euro horn
- euro wipers

How can we expect it to be priced at par with a sub4 meter vehicle?

I mean there are salaries and taxes to pay profits to be earned by the company. Its a bigger car higher taxes.

Re: Scoop! Citroen Basalt SUV Coupe spotted testing in Chennai

Somehow the concept car looked so much better and more promising. This looks like an amalgamation of different cars put together. It also looks slightly dated in certain regards (the shapes of certain bits). The C3 Aircross looks nicer because the front face of a more rugged SUV goes well with the rest of the body, while here it feels like it has been stuck on to a sedan (also owing to smaller tyres), particularly because there is a sharp surface change at the front door hinge.

The Curvv looks so much better with more presence and dynamism.

I personally don't think its possible to start at 8.50L with the build quality they showed in presentation and 6 airbags standard.

C3 hatch top version Shine Dual Tone Vibe pack is 8.10L ex showroom add 6 airbags it will cost 8.50L at least.

8 August will be clear whats the positioning of tthe vehicle pricewise.

Aircross Turbo base starts at 9.99L so Basalt base NA with 6 Airbags looks set for 8.99 L unless they want to milk the Coupe shape and hence price the base at 9.49L.

Basalt will come with an affordable price tag.
Currently the C3 aircross 1.2 turbo in similar tax slabs starts at 9.99L , 1.2 turbo AT starts at 12.91L.

Basalt is planned to be offered with a 1.2NA 5MT option too, which will make it significantly affordable, comparable to sub4m hatchbacks/sedans/crossovers top-mid variants.

I feel 9.49L is more realistic 50K difference in NA and Turbo.
But many on tight budget will be very happy if Citroen does what you wrote.

It won't win any races but it will definitely get there. Simply because it will have lower gearing. You will be revving it up quite a bit though.

Hold on to that thought of yours. Going by the track record of Europeans pricing their cars in India.. we might be left scratching our heads .

The boot does not look too big. Should be bigger than creta but smaller than elevate. Waiting for numbers to confirm.
Citroen is betting big on Basalt so they need to market and price it correctly if they are looking to stay in India.

Re: Scoop! Citroen Basalt SUV Coupe spotted testing in Chennai

Still think that this will fail, but I gotta say, I love the design.
The sporty front, the cleanest tail lights in two decades... Even the alloys are done just right. And top variant with no sunroof? What's there not to like!

Tasteful car.

Re: Scoop! Citroen Basalt SUV Coupe spotted testing in Chennai

Lots of component sharing between all these siblings, which does cut down cost but it may not strike well. Especially the front, looks cheap, in my opinion. Even though, the engines and propositions are very good, but Curvv will get more buyers, and eventually Citroen will pack it bags soon. They need to advertise the brand and their strengths against the competition, otherwise it will be another flow show.

Citroen Basalt price announcement on August 7th.

The company is, however, only likely to announce the starting price; full price list is expected to be revealed at a later date.
