Citroën says the Basalt has a go anywhere attitude. It has a ground clearance of 180 mm as well as approach and departure angles of 19.2 and 21.2 degrees, respectively.

Powering the Basalt are two 1.2-litre petrol engine options. There's the 82hp, 115Nm naturally aspirated unit and a 110hp turbocharged petrol engine. The turbo-petrol engine comes mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox (where it makes 190Nm) or a 6-speed torque converter automatic (generating 205Nm), while the NA unit gets a 5-speed manual only.

Citroen claims fuel-efficiency figures of 18kpl for the NA petrol, 19.5kpl for the turbo-petrol in manual form, and 18.7kpl for the turbo-petrol when paired with the automatic

Oh finally! Glad to see that so many of the feature omissions have been fixed, the highlight being ACC. Also, don't you think it's ironic that the first time CI has offered rear A\C vents is in the car with the least headroom?

Very, very decent attempt by Citroen. The car looks very attractive. Citroen just needs to price it right(read VFM). As I see things, the Basalt will operate at the bottom of the SUV coupe thing, whereas the upcoming Curvv does things at the top of the segment. In simpler words, Curvv should start where the Basalt would end(in terms of pricing, ofcourse!).

Does this look bigger than aircross ? From pictures it seems like a sedan with higher GC.

But will that NA engine be good enough to carry 5 with one week luggage in boot for all 5? Will it climb the ghat sections for example Pune-Goa, Pune-Ratnagiri, Pune-Sindhudurg?

Even the Brazilian C3 doesn't have this.

Exterior indeed looks attractive and seems like Citroen has added much needed features(like climate control) but seems like even a manual day-night IRVM has been given a miss.

This car looks like a million bucks. Though it does look a bit bulbous from the rear. They have also covered all the bases now in terms of features. Auto folding mirrors were the only major omission on the C3 and the C3 AirCross. They seem to have fixed it with the Basalt. Features like automatic climate control, projector headlamps, and wireless charging are a cherry on top. It's good to see all four power window switches on the driver's side.

I do wish that they had offered auto dimming IRVM. A sunroof would have completed the package considering the sunroof craze. With all the additional features, this car now feels like a complete product, the first complete Citroen(save for the C5) launched in India. I do hope that this does well. Pricing shall be the key.

• Just price this in a lucrative manner and this will be the product to success for Citroen India.
• Also, they could have banked on some nostalgia if it’d have been named Ambassador, definitely looks the part.

Indeed, due to the 1.2 NA they could actually compete with likes of Nexon, Sonet. I have experienced this engine in C3 which is a much lighter car but it had a great midrange with likeable roll on acceleration. Should be adequate. As a comparison its better than 1.2 NA from Tata\Renault\Nissan.

If they are confident about safety “RATINGS”, it might actually turn out to be a hit.

Basalt has enough kit to face competition comfortably. It has the best three cylinder engines in the competition, a great chassis and a comfortable ride. All they need is to make people test drive their cars. I have seen multiple Citroen owner reviews, where they made up their minds once they drove the car for the first time.

Bringing in the naturally aspirated petrol is a brilliant move. It will attract the Maruti / Hyundai customers too, who do not want to opt for a turbo petrol. For many, a Turbo Petrol is an overkill. My wife, who is perfectly fine with our Tigor's performance, wont have any issues with the 1.2 NA in the Basalt. I just hope that the NA is available in all variants and that the Torque Converter is paired with it soon.

Citroen did good by updating features across the range. Call it an image correction, it highlights they want to get rid of the cheap tag as quickly as possible.
