A patent image filed in India has revealed the look of the new car, adding further weight to the consensus that the automaker is poised to re-establish its presence in India after abandoning plans to sell its Chennai plant in Tamil Nadu to JSW Group.

In line with Ford’s recent offerings for the Chinese market, the small SUV boasts a distinctive front fascia characterized by horizontally stacked LED daytime running lights (DRLs) seamlessly integrated into a bold front grille. The main headlamps feature a vertically shaped design positioned further down and outboard, adding to its appeal.

Going by the looks, it doesn't seem to be the successor of Ecosport. To me, it looks more like a Kia than a Ford. But then, Ford coming back to India is more important.

Excited about what this car might offer us. The midsize SUV segment is booming and it is the right time for Ford to think about making a re-entry into this segment. Lets hope that all the classic Ford attributes of solid engines, tight handling, fun to drive and good build quality are all part of this offering.

I don't think Ford will ever enter the highly competitive <20 lakh segment in India. If & when Ford India does start selling cars again, it will only be expensive premium cars like the Endeavour, Mustang and so on.

Going purely by the information available, and not the hype or speculation, Ford indeed has applied for the patent of this vehicle in India and it remains to be seen what or when they make their next move.

Just based on appearance, This car is more likely to be in competition with the Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Honda Elevate and Kia Seltos, in the 15-20L price bracket, with the 1.0L Turbo or 1.5L engine options.

Remains to be seen if Ford goes down the Hybrid route or not.

There are too many variables in the equation, but the most important thing is that it seems Ford is seriously considering coming back to India. However I hope they make up their mind and commit themselves for the long haul.

Personally, I feel reintroducing the Ecosport and Endeavour to the Indian maket, will give them an immediate sales options, with so many existing customers and brand value.

Also they should seriously consider the EV version of the old Ecosport, along with an EV kit for converting older Ecosports. That itself will give them an immediate sales options, as many customers would like to take that option with their 10+ year old vehicles, especially those living in Delhi, and slowly a huge market for EV kits is bound to develop in India.

Ford exited because of mismanagement, with Ikon, Fiesta, Figo (G1), Ecosport, Endeavour (G1 & 2), it had more success than a Suzuki & Hyundai. And given the resale value of ecosport even after their exit, it is clear that the there are takers of Ford in India (demand exists). Moreover, they will not be able to survive Indian market without a solid service network which will only make sense if the are active in mass market segment (4.0M , 4.4 M) and doing good number to make the service network viable to operate.

Personally I would love to see, successor of ecosport (with better aesthetics), a launch targeting Harrier / Safari / XUV 700 segment and obviously the new Endeavour

I don't think the corporators sitting in Michigan see it that way. That is my main apprehension about this whole reentry fiasco. Until I hear words from Ford HQ about India plan I will not believe any of it. We have gone from imports to local EVs to JVs to now being fully back. Why do we still have our hopes high?

Moreover, they will not be able to survive Indian market without a solid service network which will only make sense if the are active in mass market segment (4.0M , 4.4 M) and doing good number to make the service network viable to operate.

Maybe this is why they are looking for a local partner. I think Ford just patented the design they created back in 2021 to create buzz and get some leverage in JV negotiations with any potential partners.

The design is certainly not new. We would have seen some camouflaged cars somewhere around the world before this patent was filled if this was new.

I live in an area with former MM Nagar Ford plant employees. There was chatter around the time JSW/BYD were planning to takeover the plant. There is nothing now.

While Ford hasn't given the plant away either, I don't see anything happening in the next year or 2.

I think by the time Ford finishes playing all these rumours, leaks and hype games, another 2-3 years will pass.

If they are serious, they should formally announce a roadmap immediately.

Build some consumer confidence.

This seems to be based on the Mahindra XUV700 (part of the scrapped Mahindra-Ford JV). The window line, panoramic sunroof, bonnet line, and the silhouette is uncanny.

This was known as the CX757 internally. The code is laying around in some engineer's LinkedIn page. I guess it goes without saying that this will never reach production because it contains Mahindra's parts and platform.

Ford Ecposport will have a new generation in Europe with project canceled in Brazil.

The model's return to the market should compensate for the end of the line of Fiesta and Focus in the region

The commercial reach, as said, will be aimed at Europe. The arrival in other global markets is still unknown.

The project of a new generation is underway and should put the brand back in contention in the category from 2025. The model will have the mission of 'making volume' in terms of sales and will be offered in both a petrol version and an all-electric variant.

The new design is still well guarded, but a render provides important details. In this sense, the model will inherit the latest guidelines from Ford's identity and will feature three-piece LED lights stacked vertically next to the grille. Just below, the main headlights will be positioned with a vertical format.
