Re: Scoop! Skoda Superb to be relaunched in India on April 3. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 54 lakh

Guys, chill. Skoda can find 100 gullible customers in India to whom they can sell their leftover stock.

Plus, the Superb is much better to drive than the Camry. The only question is the price differential with the A6 and the 3 Series GL. I personally would spend the extra to buy the A6.

100 cars? I'd wager that they can sell out within 6 months

Re: Scoop! Skoda Superb to be relaunched in India on April 3. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 54 lakh

Very, very bad move by Skoda. This kind of a desperate move destroys the long-term value of the brand.

- First off, discontinuing & relaunching the same model itself shows lack of consistency, approach and preparation.

- This is a model that was originally launched way back in 2016 at an ex-showroom price of 24 lakhs!

- This is a generation that has been discontinued & replaced globally, hence making Skoda India the 'recycle bin' of the Skoda Group worldwide. It reeks of disgust.

- Ironically, the Superb has a superior sibling now priced lower than itself, the Kodiaq!

- Skoda should have carried through with this launch on 1st April. At least then, half of the market wouldn't have believed it.

- In other news, we had gotten our Superb L&K for 33-lakhs on the road in Mumbai in 2021. Does anyone want to buy a 15,000 km example for 36 lakhs ? On a serious note, you can buy a 2021 in-warranty Superb L&K for 27 lakhs. Who on earth would pay 60 lakhs for an overpriced, 9 year old model???

Skoda, Simply DUMB act that the entire auto industry is laughing over. As a punishment, all the top guys of Skoda India who supported this decision should buy 1 CBU Superb each for 60-lakhs OTR from their own money.

Re: Scoop! Skoda Superb to be relaunched in India on April 3. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 54 lakh

I'm currently shaking my head in disbelief. There's no way that the same customers who were "heavily demanding" the Superb when it had an ex-showroom price of 35 lakh will still be willing to buy the same car, sans sunroof and navigation but with DCC and a slightly larger screen, at 54 lakh ex-showroom! I'd know, since I'd be one of them!

I'm seriously relieved that we picked up our 2021 L&K for around 35 lakh. Never before have I seen the prices of the same generation of a car literally double over the course of its life cycle! Not to mention seeing the same product vanish from the market for a year, only to be re-introduced with minor changes.

I'd either settle for the A4 which is cheaper, or stretch for the A6 or 330Li. I know our taxes aren't helping at all, but in that case, why even bother launching the same car with a price that completely erodes it's previous USP of having "superb" value for money? Especially considering that the next generation has already been unveiled abroad?

There's three ways I can see this going.
  • This gives them a way to launch the next generation Superb at an even higher price than this CBU lot.
  • If they don't do the above, all the customers who bought the previous generation model at a higher price than the new generation will be seriously disgruntled. Quite a way to have a terribly inconsistent marketing mix and brand image.
  • OR Skoda will struggle to sell this CBU lot, having to provide heavy discounts (à la VRS), then do a year-long "evaluation" and decide to not launch the next generation, causing us to lose yet another D segment sedan.

Re: Scoop! Skoda Superb to be relaunched in India on April 3. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 54 lakh

So this will be close to Rs 60 lakh on-the-road, in some Indian cities?

That is a lot of money! (well to me at least )
And quite a few talented competitors available at that price level or thereabouts.
Understood only 100 pieces will be available for sale, but this is not a rare, exotic car nor a coachbuilt model that customers need to sell themselves out to get!

Wish Skoda all the best!

Re: Scoop! Skoda Superb to be relaunched in India on April 3. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 54 lakh

I am kind of nervous about what Toyota would be thinking about the price of Camry! Will the price of Camry be revised to put it on the same class as Superb!

Also, is the price high only due to the import duty or Skoda has priced it higher?

More than 65 lakhs in Namma Bengaluru.

Did they have 100 cars lying by getting wasted somewhere and they decided to ship it over to make some money out of it?

At 55 lacs ex-showroom, this will be close to 70 lacs in Karnataka, which is absolutely crazy.

Exactly, I clearly remember until the last so called revamp, people were still able to justify the pricing by saying its league apart and only for the passionate ones who enjoys luxury over features and all.

The pricing point I believe is they thought Indian consumers have increased their budgeting and purchasing power for buying four wheelers(which in fact is true) but they forgot how much rational consumers are there in India. People spend literally months exploring the varieties of the options they have and then go for the purchase being price one of the main factors but alas! Skoda nailed it again: Another nail in their own coffin.

Re: Skoda Superb : Official Review

Very clearly, Skoda is planning to clear out old stocks in their European/British warehouse, and trying to fool the Indian buyers. As is evident, there is nothing in the product which will tempt a buyer in 2024. Good Luck to them if they can make a fool of some buyers. I'd say beware of the VIN details. The manufacturing date of the engine will tell the true story.

When companies, especially foreign manufacturers, think they can take Indian buyers for granted. That's when the demise of the company on Indian shores is guaranteed. Feel sorry for the Kushak and the Slavia. Soon they will have to bear the brunt of the buyers' dissonance

Baseline becoming 54L might do a lot of good for the older 40L brothers in the used car market.

While I like the Superb and the people that I know who have owned one love it, I can't bear to see the price hikes in cars these days.

But then again, in a market where Fortuner is being sold for almost 60 lakh without its JBL speakers or even a sunroof, what can I even say?

Re: Scoop! Skoda Superb to be relaunched in India on April 3. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 54 lakh

What if this is just great marketing? It's called 'the LOSS LEADER' approach. You will definitely lose money on this product, likely not many people will buy (100 in this case) but you will make a TON of press and this will help you sell your other products! Somewhat similar to what Dyson did with their weird air purifying headphones. Or maybe some of those weird concept cars they bring to the market but make only 5 units and with an astronomical price.
And it's probably working? TBHP, twitter and others are talking about how stupid this pricing is and how Skoda has lost it. Imagine them releasing the next Kodiaq or something like that at an attractive pricing and we shall feel vindicated!

Re: Scoop! Skoda Superb to be relaunched in India on April 3. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 54 lakh

About 15 years back when I could easily afford a Linea and the Superb was being sold for around 20L, I used to think, if I can keep my job and keep getting a 10-20 percent hike every year, I will be able to own this in future. Little did I know that it will remain a pipe dream. Now I get paid lot more than then, but the current price of the car sends chills down my spine. Guys, please tell me, what am I doing wrong?

The Superb sold well and was successful for Skoda cause it felt more premium that its price, we used terms like value luxury and even featured it in our thread about cars that punch above their weight.

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...ght-india.html (Cars that punch above their weight in India!)

Not at this price point it simply makes zero sense and with the Kodiaq 20L cheaper even more pointless.

I think the new management at Skoda hasn't understood the market. Zac and Tarun knew what the Skoda buyer wanted. There was always a buzz around Skoda with interesting cars like vRS and KAroq.

Now it's fully dead and the one launch they are doing is old model getting relaunched as a CBU. If it was going to be a CBU, it would have made sense for the new gen as that is a fresh and very modern product which international reviews claim has made the Superb even more premium.

Infact even the mild hybrid or plug in hybrid would have been unique and would pull people towards it a lot more than this outdated 54L model.

Re: Scoop! Skoda Superb to be relaunched in India on April 3. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 54 lakh

I think this is a pricing masterstroke!

Personally - I was sitting on the fence with respect to buying a Kodiaq/Tiguan. The Superb makes them look well priced, as well as the Audi Q3 twins, all of which are part of the same group. What if these 100 Superbs just stay at the yard but helps converting a few hundred tentative buyers on the other cars in the same stable!

Way to go Skoda! Talk about being a team player.
