Tata Motors has silently introduced five new variants of the Nexon equipped with an automated manual transmission (AMT). The new AMT variants are priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 12.30 lakh (ex-showroom).



The Tata Nexon Petrol AMT is now available in Smart+, Pure and Pure S trims, while the Nexon Diesel AMT gets Pure and Pure S variants. Earlier, the AMT option was available only on the more expensive trims (Creative and above).

The Nexon is offered with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 118 BHP and 170 Nm. Customers can choose from four transmission options: 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, 6-speed AMT and 6-speed dual-clutch automatic with paddle shifters.

The 1.5-litre diesel engine produces 113 BHP and 260 Nm. It is offered with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT.

• Petrol Smart+ - Rs 10 lakh
• Petrol Pure – Rs 10.50 lakh
• Petrol Pure S – Rs 11 lakh
• Diesel Pure – Rs 11.80 lakh
• Diesel Pure S – Rs 12.30 lakh

Is market seeing a correction? Is there a silver lining for customers after a long period of being a sellers market? Too earlier to say anything, but for sure OEMs are realizing that buyers are finding it hard to buy anything sensible in mid variants these days. Off late, too many OEMs were happy putting every possible feature only in higher variants trying to make quick buck. Price differences between lower and top variants these days can buy us a new small car.

This takes the total variant count of the Nexon to 102. This car should get the Guinness record for the highest number of variants in an automobile! From a thread I posted recently (Car variants - The more the better?):

As if that wasn't enough, they even introduced the Dark edition this year, hence taking the total number of variants to an eye-popping 97 variants! Just out of curiosity, are you putting each color as a different variant? For example, if Nexon Pure Manual has 6 color options, does that make 6 variants?

No, the variant count is independent of the number of colours. The large number of variants is explained by the presence of 2 engines, 6 gearboxes, two feature packs, 4 trims and the Dark edition. With the upcoming CNG version and God-knows-how-many special editions, the number of variants is set to increase till eternity .
