Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

The upcoming compact SUV as part of the India 2.5 project.

Skoda CEO Klaus Zellmer:

Quote:
The next phase of investment in India approved, targets 5% share by 2030.
Quote:
We are always looking above and below the Kushaq and Slavia for more potential. In late 2024, there might be big news for that to be expected, but we're very shy (to talk) about that.
- in the fast-growing India market which includes fresh investment for facelifts, the upcoming compact SUV as part of the India 2.5 project, and increasing made-in-India vehicle exports.

- the next phase of investment for India, which is for facelifted models and the upcoming sub-4-metre SUV in 2025, is approved and the brand is aiming to expand its addressable market in the coming years

Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

Volkswagen is developing a compact SUV for Brazil replacing the GOL.

Aimed at emerging markets, a Skoda derivative will also be sold in India and China.

The Compact SUV is speculated to be called 'YEAH' and is based on Skoda Fabia.

Quote:
will be the first Brazilian Volkswagen with the MQB-A00 platform, a simplified version of the Polo's base.

Quote:
the model should have a semi-hybrid / mild-hybrid / flex-fuel system with a focus on reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
There is a chance of ' Yeah' arriving in Europe as an electric to fight with the Citroën ë-C3.

Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

Its a bitter sweet news for me (if at all its true. I feel its a click-bait for now). It means - they are ready to make a sub4M car with the MQBA0IN platform afterall - something that they had denied in the past as feasible.

And thanks to our market dynamics - this will end up being an "SUV". Already the Kushaq/Taigun are smallish offerings overall. An even smaller car will only be aimed at a reduced sticker price.

If only we could ever get a proper hatchback, like the new Polo and eventually the Golf here from VWAG. How many years will the wait for a hot hatch carry on I wonder. Since the days of the Polo GTI, our market has come a long way in appreciating good products I think.

Zero chance of this happening, but small car with the 1.5 turbo would be so good!

Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

The VAG twins have basically become Hyundai now. It used to be a great choice for customers if they wanted a more premium VFM offering compared to the luxury European counterparts. The compact SUV (dare I say SUV) has totally taken over the market.

I can confirm from an internal source that Skoda is indeed developing a sub 4 meter compact SUV for India based on a modified version of MQB-A0-IN. It will pit against Venue, Sonet etc. Expected to launch in 2024 and the assembly line set up is in progress as we speak.

Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

Volkswagen has started a poll in Brazil to select the name for its Compact SUV. The name however could differ when launched in India.

Internally called the VW A0 SUV or VW246 project, the newcomer is ready to get its official name.

Quote:
Volkswagen already distributes a list of seven names for clinics to the brand's customers and potential interested parties. From these options, the name of the SUV will be chosen – something very similar to what Fiat did with the Pulse (which could be called Tuo or Domo), in Big Brother Brazil.

- Ivy/Tera/Teon/Therion/ Taira/Copan/Hera

- the unnamed SUV will take advantage of the Fabia's side stamping, but completely different rear and front, as well as higher suspension.

- Its engine will always be the 1.0 TSI, in versions with 116 hp and 16.8 kgfm or with 128 hp and 20.4 kgfm. However, because the launch date is close to the launch of the new phase of Proconve (PL8),it is very likely that the SUV already has a mild hybrid system, that is, an alternator capable of assisting the combustion engine.

- The use of the MQB A0 platform gives indications that the new SUV will have a wheelbase similar to that of Polo and Nivus, in the range of 2.56 m.

Quote:
Of all the names, the only one that already has some kind of registration in Volkswagen's name is the "Copa", possibly due to the various re-editions of the Gol Copa. The names with "T" seem to follow the logic of Volkswagen SUV names, such as T-Cross, Taos, Touareg, Tairon, Tairon, Taigo, among others.

Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

Volkswagen shows its 'SUV Concept' to select dealers in Brazil. To have a hybrid variant with a launch date likely in 2025.

Quote:
According to one of the dealers present, at one point, all the phones were collected in the middle of the event for Volkswagen to start its presentation of the future.
Quote:
Revealed with surprise and in concept form, the first was the Yeh Concept, a true replacement for the Gol that should arrive in 2025. In the words of the businessman, "it is an SUV with a look unlike any Volkswagen ever made". He really liked the look, thought it was daring and was also surprised by the reveal. This is a project that should be based on the Skoda Fabia under the MQB A0 platform. It will be born with a hybrid option and must have a name that will be used globally, an old desire of the headquarters.

Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

The upcoming Skoda Compact SUV will not have a VW derivative.

Quote:
Interestingly, Skoda Auto Volkswagen’s upcoming small SUV positioned below the Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun is likely to sport only the Skoda badge, and the German car maker will put its EV in the market in the early part of the race, rather than being a late mover.

So it is going to be the Freestyle/ Fronx kind of SUV.

Good, so this will be the closest thing we can get to a Polo or Fabia. And one thing we can be sure is that VAG won't go below the 1.0l TSI for the Indian market, so no weedy small MPFI engines. Hope they don't detune it or give it a 5 speed manual transmission.

Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

The upcoming Fabia based Compact SUV will likely retain the moniker 'GOL' in Brazil.

Quote:
The rumors about the return of this name gain strength with the help of the City Hall of Taubaté (SP), where VW has a factory, which posted on its social networks that the manufacturer will invest R$ 1 billion to produce the new Gol and start in 2025.
Quote:
the new SUV will rescue the Gol name, something that has been speculated for a long time.
The new Gol would have only two versions, with prices between R$ 130 and R$ 150 thousand.

Quote:
It's a pretty early estimate, considering it's a car that won't debut until 2025 and a lot can change between now and then. Today, a Polo Highline sells for R$118,990, so this Gol SUV would be above.
It is expected to sit below the Nivus and T-Cross, being smaller and with a more hatchback-like size.
Quote:
The successor to the Gol is actually being developed. Motor1.com exclusively revealed that the finished car was shown to dealers as "Yeh Concept". This name should not be used in the final template. Our sources who have seen the prototype claim that it is different from all the manufacturer's current models and that it "doesn't even look like a Volkswagen".

Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

Skoda targets aggressive pricing for upcoming compact SUV. To enter the 4m SUV segment.

This SUV is expected to start production by January 2025 in India.

Heavy localisation and taxation benefits will help Skoda achieve competitive pricing for its smallest SUV for India.

Quote:
Skoda targeting 90 percent localisation for compact SUV
To get 1.0 TSI engine; 1.5 TSI unlikely but under consideration
Will be exported to Mexico, Africa and other countries
Quote:
With the new compact SUV, Skoda will leverage the huge amount of localisation and the tax benefits available for sub-four-metre vehicles in order to achieve competitive pricing.
Quote:
Considering its sub-4m length, this means only Skoda’s compact SUV with the 1.0-litre TSI engine will get tax benefits. Similar to what we’ve seen with Maruti Suzuki’s Jimny and Brezza, which come with 1.5-litre petrol engines, if there’s a 1.5-litre TSI engine-equipped model, it will not be eligible for any benefits.

Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

This could be a good strategy considering the fact that there are no VW or Skoda models under 12 lakhs! Our GDP isn't yet so high that we can afford to buy 20 Lakh cars yet without consideration!

If they can price this around the 8 to 12 lakhs price point, it would be a fantastic prospect for high volume sales for the VW group. This should be the spiritual successor of the VW Polo (although it was much cheaper)

I hope they do not dilute the VW/Skoda ethos any more than what has already been done with Skoda's dashboards with creaking plastics.

The sub-4-meter CSUV segment has offerings from every single car manufacturer in India. So the product they put out should be solid. I'm sure they wouldn't have any problems with their 1.0 TSI engine and their tried and tested 6 speed MT. The problem is with their DSG which could be too expensive. Perhaps they could consider the Torque Converter AT (which also might be expensive). So, I'm not entirely sure if they'll offer the DSG with the sub-4-meter CSUV.

All this, assuming they're actually about to release the car! Which I sincerely hope they do.

Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

Skoda Auto India to announce compact SUV, rollout in 2025.

The Czech carmaker will go it alone in India without Volkswagen in the competitive sub-four-metre SUV segment to achieve more volumes and scale.

The global management of Skoda is scheduled to travel to India later this month to announce the company’s plans and market expansion strategy.

- The compact SUV project, known internally as ‘India 2.5’, will be Skoda’s first sub-four-metre model since the Fabia

- The Skoda compact SUV, which will be a shortened sibling of the Kushaq, is based on the same MQB-A0 (IN) platform

-The baby Skoda compact SUV will be powered by only the 110hp 1-litre TSI engine and not the 1.5 TSI

-Skoda’s compact SUV is expected to reach showrooms around March 2025

- While VW will go the EV way and the Virtus will be VW’s last mass-produced ICE model in India

-If EV plans are delayed it is possible VW will have its own version of this compact SUV further down the road from Skoda.

- Commonality of parts with the India 2.0 cars and a strong export focus promise to give Skoda the critical volumes and scale to ‘India 2.5’ viable.

- Trying to build its presence in Southeast Asia, Middle East, CIS and North Africa, expects a potential annual volume of over 90,000 units to serve both the domestic and exports markets.
