Step-by-Step guide to checking PUC Certificate in Karnataka

Within minutes after the PUC certificate is issued, you can check them on the below website and view history

PUC certificate can be checked with

Vehicle Registration Number

or

PUCC Number (Petrol or Diesel)

https://etc.karnataka.gov.in/ValidationRegno.aspx

How to search for a PUC certificate using a vehicle registration number:

I was able to check out my car PUC certificates.

Step-by-Step guide to checking PUC Certificate in Karnataka-puc2.jpg

Step-by-Step guide to checking PUC Certificate in Karnataka-puc3.jpg

Note: I am unsure if we can present this to the traffic police to avoid pollution fines.

and I believe we have this service in Karnataka only

Similarly, we can check with PUCC No.

Yes, this is a Karnataka-specific website. Most states (Eg. Kerala) integrate with the Vahan database, meaning the pollution certificate validity shows up directly on mParivahan or Digilocker RC.

Karnataka, strangely never integrated with Vahan. Also, for BS IV they mandate a 6 month pollution check compared to the 12 month standard across India.
Another Money making tactic by the Karnataka MVD machinery !

Re: Step-by-Step guide to checking PUC Certificate in Karnataka

Don't know why there is such a bally-hoo about Pollution Under Control certificates, particularly in South India!
We have been getting these, first, offline, and then online since ages in the rest of the country.
Even TN views PUC as a "National Treasure" document! First time, way back in 2009 when I had shown a valid PUC certificate to Chennai Police, (for my WB reg Swift), his eyes popped out and the reverence he showed towards me made me feel as if I was a divine figure or something! After that the cops did not even ask any questions on WB reg in TN territory.
Sadly, even now, PUC checking centres in Chennai are few and far between and most personal vehicle owners are not even aware of the need to perform a regular PUC test.

In WB, OD, MH, DL, UP, BR, JH, ML, AS one has to carry a valid PUC or its digital equivalent. Penalties are stiff for expired PUC's. For BS-4 and above PUC's are valid for 1-year. Rest 6 months. WB has gone one step ahead. If you are buying a new car, at the time of registration, it is recorded as "New Vehicle" against the "Vehicle Reg Nos" dropdown and the PUC validity is shown as a year. Neat.

We as a country have to do a lot with privacy and data security. There are so many rules for the companies to follow for privacy/security, but no rules/accountability when it comes to govt. portals.

The portal should have ..
* required authentication only allow seeing my vehicle's data.
* at least should have introduced a captcha to prevent automation

Based on this website, one can easily map the following for all vehicles in database.

* Owner's name
* mobile
* location of all the places where PUC was done

Re: Step-by-Step guide to checking PUC Certificate in Karnataka

OT: I stayed major part of my life in Hyderabad where there are mobile PUC Maruti Vans at lot of places and one can get this done easily. One can get for 6 months or 1 year valid PUC certificate on the spot in like 10/15 minutes

During my 2 years stay in Chennai (between 2018 - 2020), realized that it is not like Hyderabad. There are specific places (very few) to get PUC done.

It doesn't have records correctly. It shows my older certificates but the current certificate (from the same test center) is not showing up

Yes, I have this concern as well. They can obtain all the information based on the vehicle number

This is fixed now. You can ask the Emission guy to select BS IV Onwards and get the 12 month valid certificate. He will show resistance but you can be firm.
Till 6 months back the system used to throw error but that is not the case now. I got it done for my 2013 BSIV i20.

Re: Step-by-Step guide to checking PUC Certificate in Karnataka

There is a huge privacy issue with this website. The portal is generating the PUC certificate that is making public, personal details of the owner like the name and phone number without any checks and balances. Does someone know how to report this the concerned department.

Yes, this is a huge risk. Given the number of road rage incidents these days, its better to not give the phone number. I recently did PUC and gave the number, but the next time let me try by not giving the number.

Anyway, there was an email address in the 'contact us' section of the website and I wrote them an email about this loop hole. Hope someone checks this email and takes some action.
