Tata does it again: Five stars for the new Nexon.

The Tata Nexon has achieved the second highest Global NCAP score for adult and child occupant safety in our Safer Cars For India testing to date.

Tata Nexon facelift has been Crash tested by GNCAP and received 5 star rating for both, adult as well as child protection.

The Tata Nexon has achieved the second highest Global NCAP score for adult and child occupant safety in our #SaferCarsForIndia testing to date. Tata also holds the top spot for their Safari/Harrier rating.

The Nexon scored 32.22 out of 34 in adult protection and 44.52 out of 49 in child protection. The child protection is a significant improvement over the 3 Star rating of first iteration.

This is excellent news as we already own the Nexon Facelift. This has been an improvement over the last time the Nexon scored 5 stars. The last time it scored 3 stars in Child protection whereas this time is scored a full 5 stars. Congratulations Tata

The vehicle tested is a regular petrol/diesel Nexon. I don’t see mentioned anywhere in the report if the rating is applicable to the EV variants as well.

Kudos to Tata for another 5 star rating (Adult+Child). Tata may lack in quality control and after sales service areas. But one has to say in Indian automobile industry, safety and Tata are now synonymous words.

Nexon.ev is treated as a different model with separate type approval and not just a fuel type of the Nexon. I am surprised they did not get the EV rated this time around.

The Nexon is really among the best safety-to-price ratios out there IMO. What’s more, except for the blind spot camera all safety kit is standard equipment. Maruti should learn.

+1. I didn't expect Nexon crash test from GNCAP especially after BNCAP was underway. What's taking BNCAP so long? Wasn't there reports that multiple manufacturers have sent their vehicle for testing? Wouldn't Nexon be crash tested again under BNCAP?

If you decode the ADAC test IDs on the cars (see this post on how to) you'll see that the tests were done over September-October last year. Perhaps the right question to ask is what took GNCAP so long.

Even the suspected Carens retest that started around July last year but is still not out; neither was the Bolero Neo which was tested no later than August.

Point to be noted:

The subscores of the Nexon are better than the Slavia/Virtus/Taigun/Kushaq and Verna.

32.22 vs 29.71 for Adult Protection
44.52 vs 42 for Child Protection

But the subscores are not better than Harrier/Safari
33.05 for Adult Protection
45 for Child Protection

Verna has the lowest scores of the lot
28.18 for Adult Protection
42 for Child Protection

The good thing here is that everything that has been tested has been 5*.

What these GNCAP scores will do is give us a baseline on how different BNCAP is from GNCAP. If the scores differ wildly, we may have a problem on either of the 2. But if this trend continues, we are good to go.

Definitely setting up a great example for other manufacturers.

Please fix your QC, bring consistent fit and finish to your products and better your after-sale service. Too long I have been drooling over Harrier, but equally afraid of the aforementioned issues with your cars.

If an automotive saying "you can't have everything in a car" is true, then I will any day trade off A.S.S./showroom experience for the security of a safer car.
