Re: driving with temporary registration ?

Hi, have a similar query.

I am buying a new car and the dealer is going to give me a number plate as well as insurance documents when I take delivery along with a certificate of purchase, etc.

Now, he says it takes 2-3+ weeks for the final RC and High-security number plate to come to me from the RTO. However, the number plate that he will give me now, will bear the same registration number as my High Security plate.

Can I drive the car Delhi-Punjab-Delhi before I receive the final RC and High Security Number Plate? I am guessing I should be able to as the current registration number of the car is not 'temporary' as the car will bear the same number even later.

Thanks in advance!

Guys I have a question . I purchased Ray two weeks back.I had taken a temporary registration by paying 500 Rs at Bangalore . The TR expires on 12th Jan and I want the bike to be registered only on 16th . What do I do . The dealer says that I have to pay 500Rs again for another TR. The registration has to be done at Bangalore .

Re: driving with temporary registration ?

I also have queries on temporary registration (TR):

1) Is road tax paid for TR? If yes then is it lifetime or for a month?

2) The delivery of the car is in Jalandhar (Punjab) and registration will happen in Gurgaon, is that possible?

3)Do a person needs to obtain a NoC and apply for a refund of the road tax from hometown (Jalandhar)?

4) Will there be issues at checkposts?

5) What documents to take from the dealer who is doing TR

Thanks a lot for answering the queries

No! Road tax is paid when applying for a permanent number

2) The delivery of the car is in Jalandhar (Punjab) and registration will happen in Gurgaon, is that possible?
Ofcourse! Just go to the Gurgaon RTO with the required documents i.e. temporary number, form number 21 and 22. I'm from Jalandhar btw

3)Do a person needs to obtain a NoC and apply for a refund of the road tax from hometown (Jalandhar)?
Nope! As mentioned earlier road tax would be paid when applying for permanent number which in your case would be Gurgaon.

4) Will there be issues at checkposts?
No! You can show them the temporary number if anyone checks.

5) What documents to take from the dealer who is doing TR
Bill, Form number 21 and 22.

Thanks a lot for answering the queries
My answers in bold.

Cheers

Temporary Registration Certificate

Hi all. Just got delivery of my 2013 Hayabusa this week. I got the temporary registration number plates installed today pending the final registration. Can anyone tell me whether it is legal to ride the vehicle with TC plates? Is there a distance limit from the issuing RTO within which the vehicle must be plied? And for how many days does the validity of the TC remain intact?

Let me be the first one to congratulate you for the Suzuki Hayabusa.

The temporary registration is valid for 30 days from the date of registration. It is legal to ride with the T/R plates but only till validity. No distance restrictions for new vehicles but be sure to get the permanent number within a month of registration.

Cheers,
Anurag.

Re: Temporary Registration Certificate

Anurag, so I could ride the bike even outside the state limits with the TC? Many thanks for your clarification. BTW, the bike is superb... this model comes with ABS and Brembo monoblock callipers

Congrats on the Busa!

Actually no. you cannot take the bike outside of the state limits but then I had a TC when I got my Duke and I did take it out of the state, no questions asked.

And legally the TC is valid for 30 days but my RC came after 45 days and all of those 45 days I was running with a TC plate. Still no questions were asked. (Perhaps I was plain lucky)

Thats strange, you should have got the registration number before the RC would have arrived. RC is normally couriered at the address directly. Didnt the dealer ask you to pick up the Number plates?

No Sir. I had asked for a specific number. The dealer had said he would try with different RTO's to check who has this number. Meanwhile I was given a Temp no.

I got a confirmation that a particular RTO has the number that i was looking for - this took more than 30 days - and after I got the paper receipt confirming the number - then I got IND plates for myself.

RC then arrived ~45 days thereafter. Sorry for the confusion caused.

Re: Driving with temporary registration?

I am quite surprised that people are allowed to drive on temporary number plates. Here in Mumbai, one is not allowed to drive on temporary number plates or dealer plates unless the car is being driven to the RTO for inspection before registration. You get your permanent number, then drive on it, with a temporary RTO registration certificate (with permanent number plate), until the RC book (smart card) arrives at your door step within 45days.

Re: Driving with temporary registration?

Took delivery of Ritz last week in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Due to the ongoing anti-Telangana strike by AP government employees, all state govt offices are closed. Not sure when they will open.

Some one mentioned that the TR is valid for about 6 months, though I believe it is one month. I am planning to register the vehicle as soon as RTO employees are back to work.

1) How long can I drive the vehicle with TR? What's the allowable time period for registration?

I originally planned to register the vehicle in Vijayawada, so got all documents from dealer per that address.

2) Now if I want, can I register the vehicle in Hyderabad with the same set of documents?

Thanks in advance.

The TR is valid ONLY for 1 month.

The registration has to be done at the RTA near the address proof that you are giving. But you can try and talk to the RTA here in Hyderabad for this issue.

Anurag.
There is a proposal that I read in news paper a couple of days ago which states that the govt. is thinking to allow the permanent registrations from Telangana region provided if an address is presented from Telangana region, even if the temp. registration happened from other regions of the state.

Do not know whether this has materialized or not. Thanks.
