Mahindra Scorpio-N features deleted despite price hike

Mahindra made some changes to the standard list of features offered in the Z4 and Z6 variants of the Scorpio-N. More specifically, some features have been deleted or replaced.

According to a media report, the Z4 and Z6 variants no longer get the cooled glove box. This feature is now only available in the top-spec Z8 and Z8 L trims.

The 7-inch colour TFT screen has been deleted from the Z6 variant. It has been replaced with a 4.2-inch monochrome display from the Z4 variant. The Adrenox Connect with built-in Alexa compatibility has also been removed.

It is said that the changes made are part of the usual Integrated Material Cost Reduction (IMCR). That being said, prices of the Scorpio N have gone up in the new year. The Z4 variant now costs Rs 34,000 more, while the prices of the Z6 variant have gone up by Rs 31,000.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N features deleted despite price hike

This is a double whammy approach manufacturers are adopting to keep price increases apparent to the consumer to small percentages that seem justifiable considering inflation. On the side, they are deleting features, diluting key aspects of the overall value of the vehicle. So in the case of the Z6 variant, the deleted features may add up to a value of 70,000 and the price increase is 30,000 s the overall effective increase from a consumer point of view is 1,00,000. This is quite an insane increase for a model launched not too long ago, that has already gone through one round of price hikes. M&M does not care, as the demand is strong and they are making hay while the sun shines.

Recent halting of dispatches of the Innova Crysta Diesel and Fortuner due to emission issues discovered at Toyota will embolden Tata and Mahindra to hike prices even further as thee are very few other alternatives in the full size 7-seater Diesel market.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N features deleted despite price hike

Isn't this the same news from a week ago?

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/offic...ml#post5706335 (Mahindra Scorpio-N Review)

Guess, the shock low pricing/VFM pricing honeymoon period is over from Mahindra, and they are trying to make the price right.

May sound weird, but ironically it may take the arrival of . (Toyota is developing an SUV in a segment below the Fortuner) to control Mahindra's pricing. Right now, Mahindra has the whole BoF SUV space below Fortuner to itself (deserves it). The Fortuner starts at 40+ lakhs, giving Mahindra enough space to keep on raising the price, especially since after a couple of years Mahindra has to introduce a new Bolero line-up, which will then be priced at what the current Scorpio Classic/ ScorpioN Z2 is.

A Toyota badged BoF in the 30-40 lakhs segment will force Mahindra to maintain the pricing to reasonable levels.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N features deleted despite price hike

The strategy is simple, make the lower trims less appealing and try to push prospective customers to buy only the top end trims. It is also a status symbol these days to flaunt the high end trims and people are ready to shell extra money for that. The manufacturers need to understand that once a feature is given, it cannot be removed unless there is something equivalent provided. It makes the brand look cheap.

It is likely that there would be a lot of compromises Toyota will have to make, although the badge value maybe worth it for many. Keep in mind that Crysta with MT is many lacs more expensive than a ScorpioN already.

Part of the reason for success of Mahindra is their investment in R&D as well as Testing. They are well rooted in the Detroit of Asia (Chennai) - there is a large R&D Center as well as a proving ground for SUVs. Having visited it, my impression is that no OEM functioning in India will be able to create an XUV \ Thar \ ScorpioN and sell it at that price.

Looking at the lego like Hilux Champ, Toyota may very well pull it off. The IMV platform is now a couple of decades old, the 2.4l GD already doing high volumes and localised. Ofcourse, the SUV if they decide to sell it in India, will be more expensive than the ScorpioN. But it will act as a check if Mahindra decides to increase price greedily like Toyota is doing now.

Yep. That is why I said they deserve it. Unlike the other major domestic OEM who decided to abandon the BoF segment and is trying to leapfrog into the future.

OT:
One idea that comes to mind is that slap Crysta body on a a Fortuner chassis, give it the 2.4L GD with 170PS 400nm tune and strip down features even further and give it a cringy name as an icing on the cake with base model starting at 70L (just kidding, they will aim at 30L)

Watch people line up and crack the showroom floor. The thing is, we have a serious lack of options in the space of BoFs and family-oriented off roaders.

What do we have?
  • Jimny? Not a good daily (from my perspective)
  • Gurkha? Not my thing (again, from my perspective)
  • Thar? Yes but impractical
  • Thar 5 Door? Launch is still 15 years away
  • Scorpio N? Yes! Been living with one for the past 7 months
  • Hilux? Had booked but was forced by family to cancel (was getting a quote very close to XUV700 AWD)
  • MUX? I like it but underpowered
  • Fortuner? Yes, but very expensive
  • Landcruiser LC300 (or a used LC200)? Would be cheaper to buy NGT decision makers

It is essentially a dream run for Scorpio N and Fortuner because no competitors at all
