Re: Your car's interior at night

Voted yes, its the trend right now so why not go with the flow. Also if done correctly i feel it enhances the looks and you get the wow factor at night.
I got the mid level ambient kit installed in our Xuv700, skipped the led strips in the dashboard and the doors as i didn't like the daytime look of the installed wires/plastics.

This is how it looks

Share your Cockpit's Night Images

We all look at the dash and cockpit in good lighting conditions in showrooms, or while test driving, but for me, the dash and the entire cockpit have to look cool while driving at night too. I feel that the dash should look aesthetic, with decent lighting (both in terms of brightness and color) which should not be too distracting.

Here is a night image of my Honda Amaze's dash. I have lowered the brightness of the instrument cluster and the head unit on the night mode to ensure uniform and eye-comforting brightness across the dash. I like the white-colored backlit on the Amaze across the instrument cluster, AC Controls, and stock head unit (even though mine is an Aftermarket Blaupunkt San Andreas, but I have configured the touch button's backlit color to match the Amaze's white backlit).

The blue ambient lights were installed at the ASC and are genuine Honda accessories. These ambient lights are not too bright and turn on when the headlights are on or the doors are open. I like the idea of these since the light source (LEDs) are not visible at all and the floor is lit just enough not to distract. I wanted these ambient lights to be white in colour initially, but then I realized that white LEDs would highlight the dust and dirt on the floor mats - therefore Honda must have chosen the Blue LEDs. This also ensures a differentiation between the dash and the floor.

I also plan on upgrading my steering wheel controls to the ones in the VX Variant since those are backlit. My current ones are from the S Variant and these are not backlit. I am also trying to source Honda's genuine fog lamp switch as my switch is an aftermarket one with no backlit/fog lamp on-off status LED.

Would request all BHPians to share night images of your car's cockpit too!

I've always loved this cool.blue theme of my Beat, no other car feels like this at night. Apart from this, I like Kia's GTX variants interiors at night.

I agree. Beat’s interiors and dash were way ahead of its time!

Here's a recent click of my Swift's cabin. It's 10 year old now, but I still love the combination of analog dials with amber backlight at night.

Re: Share your Cockpit's Night Images

Great Thread! Love looking at dashboards, especially at night!

2002 Jaguar XJR (X308).

Technically not a nightspot, but it is Dusk!!

Your car's interior at night-screenshot-20240529-7.28.11-pm.png

This is my Jaguar wafting along at dusk somewhere near Paris on my way to the Retromobile exhibition in 2020. 133 km/h (GPS Speed) at a leisurely 2700 RPM). Technically that is 3km/h over the 130 km/h speed limit, but still below where you will get fined. Besides the French cops love nice-looking cars. As long as you don't pull crazy stunts you will be fine.

Supercharged V8 rules the day, again!

Dasboardwise: Very British with wood veneer aplenty. As far as I am concerned, dashboard lighting can only be green or red. Red is better on the old eyes, (protects night vision) but green is much cooler!!. Form over function anytime!

The TomTom is a bit of a distraction. But I like to think it is a testimony to the age of this car. I mean, let's face it guys, it does look better than having an iPad strapped to your centre console.

Of course, with the iPad on your centre console, you might get another interesting feature. "Dark" Dashboard. Even our Ford Focus had a button that would switch off all dashboard lights apart from the bare necessary ones (e.g. speed). At night in Dark mode, you would not even know you have an iPad strapped to the dash! How is that for progress? These days Ford probably charge you extra for that "Dark" feature. Or worse, it might be "subscription" based!

Re: Share your Cockpit's Night Images

Interesting constraint (night).

Older, more analog instruments look cooler in the dark than modern ones. The latter often are effectively a bunch of mobile devices stuck around, which is somehow just not the same.

This made me look through my pictures: I don't have many "night" pictures, and hardly any of the old school stuff.

Anyway, here are a few: some should be rather obvious as to which car it is, but some maybe not.
