I think we should avoid discussion about the topic until it comes out of the horses mouth.

That is why we should take it with a pinch of salt.

Re: Rumour: Ford Endeavour is coming back in 2025

Hi All,

I am in a dilemma and looking forward to some advice from this forum. I own an XUV500 (2016, diesel) and due to NCR's 10 year rule, I need to dispose it off by next year. I truly love my XUV500 and honestly, I dont have any complaints from it, and had this 10 year ruling not been there, I would have kept it for 3-4 years more.
Anyways, I was in the market looking for my next car, and shortlisted two - Hycross and XUV700. While Hycross has a cost advantage due to recent tax waivers from UP govt, I didnt really like the feel of it when I test drove one. Firstly, the driver's seating space seemed a bit cramped up, and secondly, the car was not driving well. The power seemed to be missing and I really did not like the driving experience. The XUV700 seems like a very complete package - it drives very well, is spacious inside, and is loaded with gizmos.

I was almost close to finalizing it, when this news of Ford coming to India, started coming in. I always had a "crush" on Endeavor, and these Everest pictures badly make me want to buy it. The only problem is with respect to the timing. We do not know if Ford will setup its plant in TN, start production of cars, come out with the initial lot, test it vigorously, seek approvals/clearances, and open up its showrooms for people to buy - all within one year. I have serious doubts on that! And with the kind of fan following that Ford has, I dont even know the waiting period, but it is bound to be high. Then there's the price factor - my budget was originally 30-35L but for Everest, I was mentally prepared to go till 45L. I am not even sure about the price point that Ford finally decides for the Everest.

Given that I have limited time on me due to the 10 year diesel vehicle ruling, do you think I should wait more for the Everest, or simply go ahead and buy the XUV700 for now ?

Thanks a lot in advance !

There are too many variables and you need to finalise your purchase before 2026. In my opinion, you can wait for a few more months, 4-6 ideally, and then see how information on the new Toyota Fortuner starts trickling in. If reports are to be believed, the new generation Fortuner will basically be an all new car and come with 2.0 L turbo petrol engine with 30% better fuel efficiency. While Toyota would price the car at a premium, it should still be cheaper in comparison to a diesel, plus the 15 year usage in Delhi NCR for the petrol. Think about it!!!!!

If the Endeavour comes back, and that's a long shot, there is a slim chance that it would compete with the lower variants of the Fortuner. Abroad the Endeavour is a decent change more than the Toyota and I doubt it would start for a price lower than 65L. I suppose you could check out the Gloster as there is no point waiting for the endeavour, I don't believe Ford coming back.

Thanks for your response but you added one more variable (Toyota Fortuner) to my already big list of variables.

As of now, I don't have a plan to consider Fortuner since I have never liked its front design (I know I fall in the minority when I say so). I want to keep this a choice between XUV700 and Everest only.

Re: Rumour: Ford Endeavour is coming back in 2025

As per this video from Autocar, the new generation Ford Everest is indeed coming to India soon and is expected to be priced around ~₹57 lakhs ex-showroom! Sad part - looks like we will get that puny 2.0L Bi-turbo diesel and NOT the 3.0L V6 Turbo Diesel in India. Time will tell...

The 2.0 L Bi-turbo Everest is in no way a puny engine. It’s has 210 HP and 500 nm of Torque, same as the new generation Fortuner and Hilux. 500 nm. of torque is immense power.

This one line in the article makes me feel that Autocar is just using the hype to do a cover story

"But, be in no doubt Ford, when you eventually decide to make a return, this is the SUV to do it with"

From what I understand - from reliable sources - Ford has not firmed up any plans for ICE engines in India and even the EV plan is still in the making.

I am happy to be wrong as a current owner of a 3.2 Endeavour as I very much want this to return before my truck turns 10. It has been a pleasure owning this and has been fuss-free and with fabulous Service and Support for last almost 9 years. I will be the first one to book if they launch the new Everest.

But from all the build-up and no real news, it seems more like hype than real plan. I really hope I am wrong.

It is not just about absolute numbers. It is more about "how" this power/torque is delivered and performance on road. I say this after having owned the Endeavour 2.0 L - while the power/torque numbers looked good on paper, real-world performance left a lot to be desired. Just look at the torque curve for this 500 NM engine and you will know what I am talking about

Thanks for your explanation. I own the 3.2 since 2017 and very happy with the power. Many debate with the 3.2 vs 2.0 and all. However my point is that the 2.0 Bi-turbo may be less powerful as per power to weight ratio, but in no way is a “puny” engine as described by you earlier. These SuVs are heavier as they are made for overlanding, towing and camping, and not for hardcore offroad, hence the design, length and weight.

Re: Rumour: Ford Endeavour is coming back in 2025

The Endeavour that we got was 170 bhp single turbo engine. This one is 210 bi-turbo & was much better in performance (as reviewed & confirmed by Autocar). I was eyeing this & settled for Safari as I realised that Ford has packed bags & there is no plan for India then (2022).

However, what is important is that the BS4 engine is good performer, their BS6 had issues & the company would not help much as it was busy packing bags. Autocar too mentioned in the video review that BS6 compliance is yet to be done.

Apparently, this is more of a filler/ remaining in news stunt by Ford, till the time they finalise their V3 line up in India.

Lovely vehicle as is the VW Tayron. Hope both comes sooner rather than later, and priced sensibly.

Re: Rumour: Ford Endeavour is coming back in 2025

ACI says, Ford Endeavour could get the 3.0L diesel V6.

The price tag is expected to be quite high so this large engine option could be introduced in top trims to justify the premium.

Quote:
The engine puts out 250hp at just 3,250rpm and 600Nm of torque from 1,750-2,250rpm.
The specs of that engine are impressive.

ACI | Ford Everest 3.0L V6
___

Theres talks of banning diesel cars from big cities by 2027, so it remains to be seen if buyers would be open to the idea of a big diesel engine passenger vehicle in 2025.
