Re: Pre-worshipped car of the month : Buying a used 2nd-gen Toyota Fortuner

Voted No for Used. Could I have afforded a new one when it cost about 40 L, I'd have bought it as a second car.

Even in the future, should a fortuner equivalent exist in the Indian market, it will be on my list as a second car. Despite being bare bones, the fortuner is unmatched in its price range. 3000 odd units a month, Toyotas service network and Japanese over engineering make this super unique.

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the month : Buying a used 2nd-gen Toyota Fortuner

Personally if i were looking for a go- anywhere SUV which i would keep for a long time i would consider the fortuner no doubt. I would choose a pre bs6 2nd gen probably in the 4x4 AT configuration and do a few mods to personalize the car such as:
Black car with facelift kit non-legender version.
Chamois interior
2021 top model alloys
Stage 1 plus remap, maybe turbo upgrade.
Tein suspension upgrade,
Michelin ltx tyres,
Audio upgrade

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the month : Buying a used 2nd-gen Toyota Fortuner

Well, to everyone criticising the Fortuner for it's price, that's what happens when you have monopolised the complete segment. It has a whole lot of flaws, yes, and only one positive i.e. reliability.

There's no point in buying a used Fortuner. A five year old Fortuner for 3 lakhs Rupees off makes no sense. For the lack of a better word, its stupidity. Rather buy a new one, fresh warranty, peace of mind, and assurance that the car hasn't been abused for 50k odd kilometres.

Its either a fortuner or an innova for me when the time comes to replace the Pajero.
But this time it would be new one, for it doesnt make any sense to pay the rates being asked for a pre owned fortuner.

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the month : Buying a used 2nd-gen Toyota Fortuner

Voted, YES

Hear me out, or rather, read me out!

The only so called alternative to the mighty BOF Fortuner 4x4 is the BOF Scorpio N 4x4.
I TD'ed the N & loved it to bits! I also own a 2022 Fortuner 4x4 AT

The advantages of N over the Fortuner:-
1. Ride - Its truly better than the Fortuner & that's very commendable from M&M
2. Sunroof - Personally I'm not a big fan of sunroofs but Indians in general, love it!
3. Gizmos - Way better than the spartan Fortuner. But then again we're talking about gizmos on an M&M! In our TD car, the infotainment was acting up with no Bluetooth connection.

The advantages of Fortuner over N:-
1. Cooled seats:- I cannot over emphasize the importance of this little feature! I live in Mumbai where the its hot & humid, 12 months a year. Our so called winters last for a few days, at best!
I'll take cooled seats over sunroof any day!
2. Space - Be it 3rd row room or boot space. The middle row of Fortuner can slide, opening up room for the 3rd row. Just not possible on the N.
Excerpts from the Official review of Fortuner:-
Quote:
Overall, tall adults will be able to sit here for trips / movies / marriages within the city.
Excerpts from the Official review of N:-
Quote:
Overall, the third row is only suitable for kids over short journeys.
3. Reliability - Call me old school but consider this:- Nowadays, you can retrofit just about any feature aftermarket. TPMS, better infotainment etc. Try buying reliability. Whatever little Toyota has given, will work till eternity. Its a car that you can gift to your grandchild!

Conclusion:-
Cars are never a head decision, atleast for us BHP'ians.
If you're don't need much space & love the gizmos - Go for the N. You wont go wrong!

If you don't need gizmos & don't want to compromise on space - Used Fortuner.
However as with any used car, check thoroughly.

Over & Out!

Nearly bought one but then the Scorpio N booking made it through.

Happy with my decision but sometimes think about how a larger displacement would feel like

So Yes

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the month : Buying a used 2nd-gen Toyota Fortuner

I will definitely recommend buying a used fortuner. Whatever the other guys say about it being pricey or lacking some gimmicks, It does its work effortlessly. You can never go wrong buying a fortuner new or used ! Also consider the value of its ownership. Its low cost maintainance. Its go anywhere attitude and a great highway cruiser. Even if you buy a used fortuner it will give you best price when you are selling it again. I wonder why anyone says it's uncomfortable. It is the most comfortable proper SUV in its class. Recently done a 2000kms Drive on a 3 days trip and I never felt any fatigue. Trip includes delhi-mumbai expressway, Rajasthan single roads, MP mountains, Rocky terrains. Given a decent fuel average of around 12kmpl. And the power punch on any kind of road is just incredible. Not a single dull moment while driving this machine. So its a big thumbs up 👍 always for a fortuner new or old !!!!!!

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the month : Buying a used 2nd-gen Toyota Fortuner

I apologize for posting this question on an existing thread with a slightly different topic/poll. I thought of posting it here instead of opening a new thread, as my question is somewhat related.

I am 42 years old and work in the IT industry in a managerial role. I drive an EcoSport, which has been performing excellently without any issues for the past 7 years. I bought it brand new in 2017.

I was considering purchasing a pre-owned Fortuner a few years back since I couldn't afford a new one. Even now, I don't feel like spending 5 million on a new Fortuner. I had this interest some time ago and discussed it within my circle of friends. As years passed, I forgot about it and started investing my savings mostly in real estate and a small portion in equity markets.

All of a sudden, I stumbled upon a well-maintained 2012 2WD MT Fortuner through a long-known Toyota service advisor. The car appears to be in excellent condition with two owners on paper (originally leased by a company and then transferred to an individual) and 51,000 kilometers on the odometer. The service history looked impressive, and the asking price is 14 lakhs. The owner has an offer from a dealer that is 50,000 less than the asking price.

I met with the owner and inspected the car. It appeared to be in excellent condition, and an expert test drove it, giving it the green light. The service advisor encouraged me to purchase the car without hesitation. It has recently been serviced and doesn't require any major work. There are just a few minor tasks needed, such as replacing the rear wiper, battery, hub-cap, and some cleaning, which should amount to around 20-30k.

I'm honestly unsure if I need a Fortuner, but I've always admired its presence. There's a part of me that feels if I don't buy one now, I may never do so in the future. My current vehicle (EcoSport) is serving me well without any issues. However, the Fortuner would offer a larger size and an additional seat, which I might occasionally find useful. Additionally, the covered parking space at my house can accommodate the EcoSport but not the Fortuner. However, I do have enough space for open parking in front of my house since I live in a private layout.

I'm an old-school type; I prefer a simple car with average performance and minimal electrical components. My intention is to keep this car for a minimum of 5 years.

I'm sure some of you may have faced a similar situation, so I'm seeking your suggestions. Should I proceed with buying this Fortuner? Could there be any potential issues in the near term due to it being a 12-year-old diesel vehicle, especially in terms of emissions and regulations?

This model year or that older shape is a bit more truck like than the current one , so if you are going to be using it as as a daily driver and it's the only car at home - consider the daily urban use case and ease of use by taking a test drive before concluding.

I won't worry much about emissions etc at this point.

Couldn't have said it better, I did just that. After using a Pajero GLX for 8 years and 30,000 kms I bought a used Fortuner 4x4 AT (27K odd kms on the odo) & a 2017 model, got it for 27L could have got it for less if I tried.

I was in this same situation a few months ago. To cut a long story short I bought a ScorpioN for the same price that I would have had to pay for a 10 year old Fortuner. I found it too long in the tooth. The old Fortuner does not draw glances like the new one, same with the old Innova and the Crysta. It's a question of too little too late. I think you should search far and wide for a new shape Fortuner, that would be the one to get. Explore DL and MH areas too

Isn't 14L for a 12 year old fortuner a bit too much that too a 2WD?

The FC will have to be renewed in another 3 years and since its a diesel you will be able to extend it by another 5 years max. Please bear that in mind!

I agree that it's expensive and am currently trying to negotiate a better deal. Additionally, the prices of used cars in Bangalore are high.

Thank you for sharing your experience! It seems like you made a wise choice with the ScorpioN. Following your path could also save me some money through the company car lease option.

I completely agree that older models can feel outdated compared to newer ones. I'll certainly take your advice and explore options for a new shape Fortuner, including searching in DL and MH areas. Your inputs are much appreciated!

Thank you for the advice! I'll definitely prioritize taking a test drive to assess how it handles in everyday driving situations.

And thanks for reassurance about not worrying too much about emissions at this stage. I was also considering the fitness checks post 15 years. Given the current situation, if they allow me to use this vehicle for the next 10 years, it would be fantastic.
