Mercedes-Benz India is all set to begin the new year with the launch of the GLS facelift on January 8, 2024.



The GLS facelift made its global debut in April this year. As part of the update, the luxury SUV gets a new front grille with horizontal slats, a reworked front bumper and a few minor changes on the rear.



Inside, the SUV gets new upholstery, trims and Mercedes' latest MBUX infotainment system with three new display options: Classic, Sporty and Discreet. The car comes with the Parking Package, which offers a 360-degree view at low speeds and an offroad setting which shows various camera angles around the car, including a view from underneath the front bumper, which Mercedes calls 'transparent bonnet'.



Currently, the GLS is available with a 3.0-litre diesel engine paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The facelift version is likely to get the same engine.

MBIL usually bumps up the price considerably when launching facelifts. This time around, they should consider the market dynamics and hold their greed before it backfires.

The GLS pricing is already on the higher side and pushing it much further could affect sales. The facelifted X7 with more power and some kit is already a shade cheaper.

It's disheartening to experience under-equipped Mercedes-Benz products in the Indian market, especially considering the hefty price tag of over 15 million INR for the GLS. A vehicle of this caliber should offer a cosseting ride, comfortable seats, and an array of features to justify its cost. Indians prioritise value for money quotient even in the luxury segment. Enhancements for the facelift could include:
1) Genuine Nappa leather seats with softer cushioning (The GLS's ARTICO leather feels cheap and rigid)
2) Heated and ventilated massaging seats for both front and rear passengers (gimmicks like Seat Kinetics hardly make a difference)
3) Integration of Magic Body Control to address the unsettled ride quality in the GLS (21-inch low profile tyres can make way for 20-inch).

I was actually surprised to learn that a GLS now costs almost 1.65 cr on-road! I would rather spend that money on a Defender 110 X that comes with something as basic as rear seat heating and cooling for the asking price.

Totally agree with you on this, a more spacious and complete off roader as well. I could understand a demand for these but not such a high demand that throughout the year these are on waiting.

Feels kinda out of place. Even the gaudy grille of the GLS Maybach has some sort of acceptable aesthetic. This one feels like an AI generated pic of a GLS with LC300 inspired grille.

I am not sure how many of you noticed, Merc India MD Mr Santhosh miscalculated the turning radius of this mammoth machine. If it was an inch more, the car's left front wheel would have slipped the stage and would have been very embarrassing.

I don't think any of the Mercs now are left with any character. They all appear rounded and bulbous. It is such a struggle these days to tell which one is which. Only after looking at the size is one able to tell. I totally dislike this behemoth and the way it looks. For the money you need something more striking.

Looks like better sense has prevailed, the price hike is approx 6% including the 2% price hike YOY. Thus,it is essentially a 4% hike for the facelift which is justified.

That grille is extremely displeasing to the eyes - to mine atleast. Looks like a lot of the cheap, aftermarket grilles you could see on the ML's and GL's of yesteryear .

Damn that’s an ugly car. Hide the badge, and you’ll be forgiven for thinking this is a wannabe Chinese design. Merc’s current design language just does not agree with me. None of their cars, apart from the gorgeous C, are going to age gracefully.
