Hyundai Staria MPV spotted in India, but it’s not a test mule

The Hyundai Staria has been spotted in India. The MPV was captured on the streets of Chennai, sporting embassy plates.

The Staria is a futuristic-looking MPV measuring 5.2 meters in length. It has a sleek, aerodynamic front fascia featuring slim LED daytime running lights and LED headlamps positioned on the front bumper.

Being a large MPV, the Staria has a massive glass house with frameless windows all around. At the rear, it has vertical tail lamp units and a roof spoiler.

The Staria sold in global markets comes with two 3.5-litre V6 petrol engines paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. These engines produce 268 BHP / 331 Nm and 237 BHP / 310 Nm.

The sole diesel option is a 2.2-litre unit that makes 175 BHP and 431 Nm. It is paired with either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic. The same engine is available in the Kia Carnival as well.

Quite the timing of the photographer to take that first photo, right beside its nemesis.

The Staria is an impressive machine with a massive glass area. Not sure if the design will click among our buyers. The interiors are a nice place to be and with good quality.

Not sure if it is a test mule of Hyundai Staria, from the number plate it looks like the Embassy / Consulate vehicle.

This particular car belongs to the Embassy of South Korea. There are quite a few Hyundais and Kias that have been imported for them. Usually kept parked in the Embassy premises in Mylapore.

It is a Carnival sized MPV. It has enough length to fit 4 rows of seats

Yes off course. I've seen both a number of times. The Staria is also sold as a work vehicle, minus all the rear passenger seats.

Have seen it around Guindy and Adyar with CC plates must belong to SK embassy like others pointed out.

The size and proportion makes it look more like an Airport shuttle than a family car. It is above MuV but smaller than a school van.

Not sure if family can accept this car or even drive inside crowded cities

It suits the western markets well. Seen quite a few families with small kids using it in Sydney due to the strict needs for child seats. It's only slightly bigger than a carnival overall so makes it quite easy to use I guess. Sydney roads make Chennai roads feel like highways. :P
