Nissan plans 5 new models for India: SUVs, MPV & EV

Nissan has revealed its future product plan for the Indian market. The carmaker plans to launch five new models, including two SUVs, one MPV and an entry-level EV.

Nissan is gearing up to enter the heavily contested mid-size SUV space with two models based on the all-new Renault Duster. The 5-seater version will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. A 3-row version is also said to be in the works and it will compete with 7-seater SUVs like the Alcazar, MG Hector Plus and Tata Safari.

The MPV in question is said to be a rebadged version of the Renault Triber. It will be positioned below the Magnite and will offer a cheaper alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Kia Carens.

Nissan is also working on an entry-level EV based on the CMF-AEV platform. It could compete with the Tata Tiago.ev. Renault’s version of the small EV is also said to be on the cards.

The fifth product that Nissan has lined up for the Indian market is the refreshed Magnite. The Magnite facelift is expected to get a few cosmetic changes and new features. It is expected to be launched sometime next year.

Does that mean India is not getting the X-trail and Quashqai? Not very long ago, Nissan had announced plans to launch those two at an event where these cars were shown to journalists. We also saw test mules doing the rounds all over the internet.

X-Trail and Qashqai striked out?? The X-Trail is still being tested as can be seen from the many spy shots that show up regularly.

X-Trail and Qashqai will be on the CBU route and these are completely localized in India which will compete with similar segments I guess.

It seems like Nissan India is the feeling like you've been waiting for your food to be brought by the waiter each time he/she comes out of the kitchen. As soon as you see your food come out of the restaurant, they deliver it to another table while you sniff the aroma of what could have been yours.

It's been ages since we've been tickled with the news of the Nissan X-Trail/Qashqai, and i sense this continuation of just ideas, ideas, ideas is just a glimpse of their seriousness to the Indian market.

Re: Nissan plans 5 new models for India: SUVs, MPV & EV

This roadmap looks more realistic than the announcement about the Qashqai/X-trail. Anyways the aforementioned duo would have been niche products considering that these products are developed for more mature markets with higher pricing which would not have made them a sales champ. These products however could have been launched as a CBU to improve the brand awareness of Nissan as well as would have catered to the Nissan fanboys.

Similar category vehicles like the Hyundai Tucson, VW Tiguan and to some extent Skoda Kodiaq have seen limited success. So no point investing to launch products which do not help the co, instead it is better to focus on the Duster as the Compact Suv class in India is booming with healthy margins.

What is needed however is for both Nissan as well Renault to not cheapen out products and launch decent vehicles which do not feel cheap like the current ones are.

Nissan needs to spend more to just amp up their street presence first. They are hardly there even in major cities. They also need good brand ambassadors who will strike a chord with car buyers. And do some in-your- face marketing. That is a tall order for a Japanese brand that has always been the " side hero" to Toyota & Honda, even world wide.

Re: Nissan plans 5 new models for India: SUVs, MPV & EV

For me personally, of all the Jap brands in India i feel Nissan had the quality and premiumness when the launched models in India. Micra had some great features even the hatchbakcs now cannot match. It felt premium inside the car.

Nissan India is really not utilizing their products portfolio and marketing strategy to penetrate Indian market. See how Kia did with just 2 or 3 cars within a span of 3-4 years.
Wish Nissan comes back to its glory here soon.

X-Trail is very much in the plan (FY23). It is almost in the final stages of formal launch with Price/ Dates. The shared plan is for FY24 and FY25 launches and hence, doesn't include the X-Trail.
Qashqai is still being considered.

Re: Nissan plans 5 new models for India: SUVs, MPV & EV

Have been hearing this planning BS from ages.
What has Nissan to show currently other than “Magnite”.

No wonder dealerships are closing left and right.

If there is no sense of urgency on part of Nissan they are just digging themselves into a hole.

Nissan is back at it again, with their annual auto journalists' goodwill milking. I don't trust a word out their mouth. Gagan Chaudhary had a fantastic video on this.

Qashqai is still being considered.
Is this based on any insider information? most media updates show X-Trail is not yet "fully" confirmed.

Yes, I am closely associated with the brand.
Most media doesn't have a clue on the progress.

Wake me up when they actually release any models other than Magnite. Nissan is so busy planning so many plans they have completely forgotten the part where they release those planned models.

I guess they'll axe the kwid looking at this chart. The Kwid EV at 7-8 lakhs would have been perfect for India !
