Suzuki Motor Gujarat achieves 3 million production milestone

Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG), a wholly owned subsidiary of Maruti Suzuki, has achieved the production milestone of 3 million units.

SMG commenced operations in February 2017. The milestone has been achieved within a span of around 6 years and 11 months, making it the fastest to manufacture 3 million units across all Suzuki-run facilities. According to the company, the last 1 million units were manufactured in just about 17 months.

SMG has an annual production capacity of 7.5 lakh units. At present, the facility manufactures models like the Swift, Baleno, Dzire and Fronx. Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming battery electric vehicles will also be manufactured at this facility starting FY2024-25.

Recently, the Maruti Suzuki Board of Directors approved the acquisition of Suzuki Motor Gujarat from Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), Japan. Suzuki Motor Gujarat, previously a wholly owned subsidiary of SMC, is now under Maruti Suzuki ownership.

With the Swift, Baleno, Dzire, and Fronx all selling well over 10k units a month, it is no surprise that they have achieved this milestone within hardly 7 years. (and the Fronx was launched just this year) With the Baleno being recently facelifted and Fronx being a new model along with the Swift which is getting a facelift in 2024 and Dzire to follow suit, there seems to be no stopping them either, the next 3 million sales will be much quicker too if they go at this pace.
