Next-gen Mahindra Bolero likely to be launched in 2026

According to the latest reports, Mahindra is gearing up to launch the next-generation Bolero in India. The SUV is being redesigned from the ground up and will be based on an all-new platform.

The Bolero is the workhorse in Mahindra’s line-up. Known for its reliability and rugged construction, it is quite popular in both rural and urban areas. The next-gen Bolero is said to be underpinned by the U171 platform. It would require an investment of over Rs 2,000 crore in the coming decade.

The U171 platform will spawn several new models including SUVs and pickup trucks. Reports suggest that there will be at least three SUVs based on this platform, with the first model expected to be launched around 2026-27. Mahindra expects to sell around 1.5 lakh units, which could double with the rollout of pickup trucks.

Mahindra currently sells around 8,000-9,000 units of the Bolero on average per month. It makes up 20% of the brand’s total sales. Thanks to the Bolero pickup, Mahindra has a 60% market share in the segment.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Bolero likely to be launched in 2026

Whatever happened to the Neo Bolero, the only reason to go all new would be cost, perhaps Neo costs too much to produce with little benefit to the end user of this segment since Neo is based on Scorpio.

The current Bolero Maxx pickup range is very similar to the Hilux champ that is being rolled out abroad by Toyota , even the interiors have similarities, definitely focused on bare minimum necessities.

A closed body vehicle based on Maxx pickup range would be very cost effective, the body panels & interiors of Maxx look simple and appears to be cheap to stamp out.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Bolero likely to be launched in 2026

The Bolero has a unique place in the market but its architecture dates back to a time when safety, emissions and technology were a priority neither for Mahindra nor for its buyers. The Bolero may still have a consistent set of buyers and Mahindra have been making profits on it (and the Neo and Scorpio Classic) but they have been conveniently separating it from the set of products they want to build their image with.

If some person or organisation - perhaps one that usually makes some interesting revelations about Indian cars near the end of every year - has decided to expose the Bolero’s inconsistency with the brand values Mahindra claims to incorporate like, say, safety, that would not be a good look for Mahindra and is one possible reason they would want to make it clear that a new Bolero is on the way. But don’t quote me on that, it’s just speculation. Mostly.

Pretty excited for the rumoured SUVs on the new platform. Contrary to what was expected, we can be seeing more affordable BoF models in the market by 2026 than now. Toyota for sure will bring the IMV0 based SUV to India IMHO, if not for the Hilux Champ itself.

The Bolero is too old and the underpinnings could date back to more than a couple of decades. The Bolero Neo was meant as a replacement but over the years it has become a sort of neither here nor there model. IMO, Mahindra is likely to erase the models from the Marazzo and back, with the 2nd gen Thar being their oldest model. Same strategy that TATA used in the late 2010s.

Would say the Maxx approach wouldn't be a good idea. It itself is old and there is no engineering prowess comparison between the Maxx range and the Hilux Champ, except for the bare minimum necessities approach. Heck, even the 70 series Landcruiser that is of same vintage as the Mahindras are waaaay better engineered.

Would expect Mahindra to go all out on a low cost, durable approach with the latest tech. Mahindra already has captive market waiting, and I believe it is the regulations that are making Mahindra to go all new.

I hope they would put a Torque Converter unit in it and make it easy for users who like to drive only automatics like me!

Never seen 70 series doing the work here, so I cannot comment on that. The Maxx has now official payload of 2 Tons, given our propensity to overload the vehicle - You can bet on a Mahindra.

Ofcourse the LC70 isn't being used in India. I meant it as a reply to the Maxx being compared to the Hilux Champ.

BTW, the Maxx itself is a pickup version of Bolero/old Mahindra jeeps. Or rather the Bolero is a closed body version of old Mahindra jeeps. What used would it be to launch a closed body version of the Maxx?

Yes, it is durable. The work gets done. You can overload it many times over. But it doesn't remove the fact that it isn't well engineered. From the the way the door handles feel to the seating position to how the controls feel. And please don't quote me as saying to expect passenger car comforts in a commercial vehicle. But there are a couple of decades that we had skipped thanks to the 407 smashing the Jap four in the 80s. One can be durable, bare bones and still have good fit and finish along with basic ergonomics sorted out. Hope the next gen Bolero and its derivates are, since our market direly needs such vehicles (lack of competition)

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Bolero likely to be launched in 2026

Around 10L pricing is one of the key USPs of classic Bolero. I just hope Mahindra keeps the next gen as affordable as classic Bolero. They can also simplify their offerings by few models.

- Bolero & Scorpio-N being their main-stream BOF vehicles.

- Thar series (3-door & 5-door) and Scorpio-N Global Pik-up series being their lifestyle offering.

- XUV series (100, 300, 500, 700 & 900) continue the FWD-based monocoque vehicles.

- Differentiate commercial pickups from "Global Pik-up" series as well as next-gen Bolero series by continuing/evolving current exteriors.

Next-gen Mahindra Bolero to get multiple seating options

According to recent media reports, Mahindra is working on the next-generation Bolero. It is said that the new model will be offered in multiple body styles and seating options.

The new Bolero is said to be based on the U171 platform. It is likely to come in different wheelbase options depending on the seating configuration. Reports suggest that the 5-seater version will most likely be a sub-4 meter model and replace the Bolero Neo in Mahindra’s line-up.

A stretched version offering 7 seats in a 3-row configuration is also said to be in the works. It could get a forward-facing third row for improved safety.

Moreover, the next-gen Bolero might also be offered in an XL configuration with four front-facing rows of seats and a total seating capacity of 9. This variant will be aimed at the Force Citiline, which is a popular mode of transport in small towns and rural areas.

Besides people carriers, Mahindra will also offer a pickup version of the Bolero. The rugged utility vehicle is quite popular in the commercial segment. Currently, the Bolero pickup has a 60% market share in its segment.

All it needs a good 5 speed AT transmission box so that even Urban customers(Jimny) can use it. Not sure why no one at Mahindra even thinking it as an option at least.

Totally agree. I was hoping for the same for Bolero Neo as well. It would have been more VFM and practical than the Jimny.
