Last month, Tata Motors launched the updated Harrier and Safari in the Indian market. However, dealers still have the pre-facelift cars in stock that are now being offered at heavily discounted prices.



According to a media report, customers can avail benefits of up to Rs 1.40 lakh on the pre-facelift Harrier and Safari. This includes cash discounts of up to Rs 75,000, exchange bonuses of up to Rs 50,000 and corporate offers of up to Rs 15,000.

While the pre-facelift versions of the Harrier and Safari are mechanically identical to the latest iteration, they do miss out on a few features. The SUVs now come equipped with ADAS with Adaptive Cruise Control, 7-airbags, paddle shifters and dual-zone automatic climate control with a touch-based control panel, a new steering wheel with an illuminated logo, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with Navigational Display, and a 10-speaker JBL audio system.

Under the bonnet, the Harrier and Safari facelift continue to use the same 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine that makes 168 BHP and 350 Nm. The engine is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

I don't think that anything below 2.5L will move these old models. When I got my S Cross in 2015 I got a 1.7L discount @ the price of 10L

I checked with Prerana Motors Bangalore. The Sales guy says only two Top end cars in automatic are available at 1.25L discount on ex-showroom.

I think the biggest roadblock for clearing these old models will be safety.

Potential buyers cannot ignore the fact that the pre-facelift is not tested by NCAP (with rumors of safety issues due to the footwell incursion). The facelift has grown in length and width with additional bolstering on the body and the cars have now achieved 5 star safety by a wide margin.

Discounts aside, I would simply not buy them because of the missing features. Adaptive cruise control and 7 airbags is a big deal.

That is true. There will be no takers for the old model with such a measly discount of 1.25L. Even before the launch of the facelift I was offered a cash discount of 50K INR, corporate discount of 5K, Free accessories worth 5K and bumper to bumper/Zero depreciation insurance from SBI general for 72K INR and an additional YONO discount of 5K INR this August on my Harrier BS6.2 XZ plus DT Manual from Lakshmi TATA, Avadi. They were clearing their inventory and even had 2022 BS6 phase1 models for which they were offering 2.5L cash discount on ex-showroom price. Considering the current scenario with a more sorted facelift that got rid of the cumbersome hydraulic steering unit, people looking forward to buy the pre-facelift models of the twins should definitely look forward to getting twice the discount that's mentioned in the article.

That amounts to just ₹2000 in EMI terms, small change for someone putting ₹20 lakh + on a car. Why would someone bait for it?
