re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

Reading AMT still being used on new launches is so sickening. When MSIL had already tried their hands with CVT for a few models. Sigh! even the 15 lakh XUV300 has been paired with AMT. Truly, the Indian car market is unsavable.

Kudos to MSIL for finally readying the sub 800kg version for Indian consumers. Hope I am proven wrong.

This all but confirms the new 1.2-litre Z12E three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine from Suzuki’s Z series with mild hybrid tech.

I do agree that AMT in new launches isn't a welcome move, I was especially surprised by the Baleno ditching the CVT for the AMT, however, I have to mention that the newly launched XUV 3XO does ditch the AMT in favour of a 6-speed Torque Converter AT in the petrol models, while the Diesels do continue with the AMT.

In the sub-10 lakh segment, car makers are trying their best to offer the most feature-laden products but have to make certain compromises and many have resorted to pushing AMTs instead of true automatics due to the lower cost involved with AMTs.

The only cars with proper automatic gearboxes under 10 lakhs ex-showroom are the Tata Altroz DCA, Honda Amaze CVT, Hyundai i20 IVT and the newly launched base spec XUV 3XO TC AT. The Magnite CVT and Kiger CVT both used to cost under 10 lakhs a few months ago, but have now crossed the 10 lakh frontier.

I think Baleno was TC and not CVT, it was a real slick auto, before AMT happened.

Old Baleno was a CVT not TC.

Once Swift was ruling performance with its jewel engines, now being relegated to mileage... Fall of a mighty brand.

+1 Swift with the 1L turbo would be amazing. If a brand new name plate like fronx can get it, why not give it as an option for the Swift?

I feel this new Swift closely resembles the front end of the Puma

I think the downfall began when they shifted the Baleno to the NEXA showrooms and the Swift to the "normal" showrooms. Clearly showed that they wanted the Swift to be taken up by people on a budget, and now they are trying to cater to them further. Real shame.

2024 Maruti Swift to get new VXI (O) variant, no CNG at launch.

Quote:
In addition to the usual LXI, VXI, ZXI and ZXI Plus variants, the Swift 2024 will also get a new VXI (O) variant. This is similar to the 5-variant lineup we saw with the Fronx, where Delta Plus serves as the middle variant for the car.
