Why must it look extremely strange and disproportionate, a bit like a bloated dolphin (minus any associated cuteness)? At least if the fun-to-drive character was retained, all else could be looked past, but this is dubious…

6 Airbags are standard across all variants. I expect the prices to be hiked and to be in the range of 6.5-6.75L for starting variants.

Oops 6.24L itself is quite expensive for swift , the similarly specced Hyundai Grand i10 Nios with standard 6 airbags starts at just 5.92L now, stretching up to some 8.56L for AMT.

IMO Maruti will retain the same base variant prices or a marginal 5-10K addition will done as introductory.

Also Baleno is selling at some 6.66-9.88L ex.sh.

Might be worth noting that the i10 Era is still sold without ESC. Also the Swift (according to leaked images) has ISOFIX (i-Size compatible as well) and 3 rear adjustable head restraints. Those might add to the price. The old Swift already retails at 6.24L ex-showroom following the price hike last month, so I think even 6.5 would be pretty optimistic (at least after the introductory period ends).

Any idea if 6 airbags will be made standard on the Nexa cars/Brezza as well?

Only the top-spec ZXI PLUS gets a rear camera? MSIL should provide it from VXI onwards imo.
I was watching the UK Swift car review a few days back for a mid-spec variant and it was loaded with most of the bells and whistles, including the larger 9" screen. Sad variant-wise feature distribution for India!

This may be totally OT but I am about to launch a diatribe at us as a society overall. I am now convinced that this attitude of step child treatment, whether it is equipment, safety et al stems from us Indians- we do not respect road rules, we do not respect traffic discipline, we do not have adequate legislation on safety. Over a lac lives are lost due to accidents every year and nothing concrete is ever done about it. Therefore, we get what we deserve.

The new Swift looks like Mr. Bean's car had a child with a Go Kart. Honestly looks fun to drive ngl, can't wait to chuck it around corners.

re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

Base-spec 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift LXI looks like this

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch the fourth generation Swift in India later this month. Reports suggest it will be offered in five variants - LXI, VXI, VXI (O), ZXI and ZXI+. Until now, you may have seen the higher variants of the Swift equipped with dual-tone alloy wheels, LED headlamps and more. Now, here's what the base LXI variant looks like.

The latest images of the Swift reveal the entry-level variant of the hatchback. It looks decently equipped despite being the base trim. The car has projector headlamps with LED DRLs, but misses out on the fog lamps, while the dual-tone alloys make way for steelies. Other exterior details include black ORVMs and door handles.

Inside, the base LXI variant is expected to get power windows, a manual AC, internally adjustable ORVMs, tilt steering, adjustable front headrests and a 12V power socket. Safety features like ESC, Hill Start Assist, dual front airbags, and curtain airbags could be offered as standard across all trims.

The 2024 Swift will be offered with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol engine that produces 80 BHP @ 5,700 rpm and 112 Nm @ 4,300 rpm. The engine is expected to be paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT.

I hope it does not cost above 7 lakhs on road because in that range one can buy Baleno.

I believe it is only a matter of time (probably October 2024 onwards) that in all cars 6 Airbags will be offered as standard. This would be true for both Arena and Nexa.

Makers like Hyundai quit the lower segments rather than upgrading the models like Santro, Eon as they did not want to sacrifice profits. As per rumours though, Suzuki is upgrading even cheaper vehicles like Alto and Eeco and these vehicles will be available in 6 airbag guise as standard probably.

In my personal opinion, no vehicle in Indian market post FY 2025-26, will exist without 6 Airbags as standard.

re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

With each generation Maruti keeps on ruining the Swift. Swift is supposed to have an exciting and enticing design, I don’t know what has drawn Suzuki to design their cars like Europeans brands, the mass market will gobble this up like anything anyways. If they truly cared about the ‘fun to drive’ quotient they would’ve offered it at least with the Booster-jet manual since automatic anyways would’ve increased the price by a huge margin.
