re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

Anyone wanting to buy Swift should do it now, instead of settling with a downgraded engine (3 cyl <- 4 cyl, 82 hp <- 89 hp). Hard to fathom the reason, the current K12 engine already has fantastic mileage. And MS is literally swimming in money.

Maruti cars are all about fuel efficiency. This new 3 cyl motor is I guess 3.3 kmpl more then outgoing K12 motor. No surprises if Maruti plonks this new motor in all future models.

It's not Maruti/Suzuki, it's the ever tightening emission norms that's playing the foul game for the enthusiasts.

The K12 engine was 84 BHP IIRC. G13B in esteem/first gen Swift was around 87 BHP.

re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

It seems like Maruti Suzuki is trying to usher in a new era with the 2024 Swift, but some of the changes might feel like a step back for enthusiasts who have admired the model over the years. The introduction of a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder mild-hybrid engine, although eco-friendly, might not live up to the expectations set by its predecessor, the K12 engine, in terms of power.

The pricing strategy will be crucial here; if the new Swift is more expensive, it could further alienate longtime fans who might see this as not just a fall from grace, but a step away from the Swift’s storied legacy of value and performance.

Looks like Suzuki is on an ego trip here. Tata will destroy Suzuki in coming years.

Unique asymmetrical dials?

From the pics it looks like the superbike style resting point of the Swift tachometer is a thing of the past. Wonder if it is an indication of the continued dilution of the sporty nature.

Do those panel gaps seem extra large on the body ? Maybe Maruti could have had designed it better not to have that half eggshell-like bonnet? It looks like a toy car where you remove that top and insert new batteries !

This is just for illustrative purposes, but see how BMW redesigned the bonnet to a cleaner look in the E46 vs the E36 above.

Agreed. The bonnet panel gap line sticks out like a sore thumb in the new Swift. It was my first observation when I looked at it. The existing model of Swift still integrates it better than the new one.

However, the bonnet lines have been moving up in all MSIL cars, pre facelift Baleno vs New. The Fronx has similar, but they're all integrated in the style. Otoh in this model, the Bonnet line overlaps with the design crease giving it an odd look.

Changes wrt the European Model which I could spot:
+: No dual tone White Interior
+: Addition of Fog Lamps
-: Automatic Transmission looks like an AMT.
-: No ADAS.

re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

I was looking forward to this launch. But no proper automatic (only AMT(?)) doesn't work for me. Plus, the car is underpowered. I wish they had launched at least the top-end version with the K15 engine producing a tad more than 100 PS of power. I can stand those ugly looks, but I cannot fathom the logic of downgrading the engine/power. The outgoing Swift feels a lot better specs-wise, as compared to the new model they are launching.

Enough of speculations, let's wait for the launch on 9th May and the official review to pass our judgements on the car.

re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

We need to change our perception regarding Swift as the car has been repositioned downwards since the launch of Baleno and later Fronx . I hear that Suzuki is likely to slot a Punch competitor / Ignis replacement or a Magnite/Kiger type vehicle as well between the Swift and the Fronx. In India, bottom line is that it's no longer a Supermini. It is the future Alto of India. Once we get this out of the way, now the value proposition is more palatable. No matter, how rich Indians get, for Minis like Swift, price will remain important. That will ultimately decide it's fate.

Even the exterior design looks more like an Alto than the previous gen Swift. Given that Alto is getting expensive and the market at the lower end is vanishing if we go by the sales trend, no wonder Suzuki will like to place Swift as one of the lower end models.

It is a bit sad to look at the Swift's design go increasingly bland.

Agree with your point on pricing. With the likes of Punch garnering market share and views, the days of hatchback is a thing of the past. Looks like a sad timeframe in near future of lovers of hatchback/sedans.
