Re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

The car absolutely looks amazing in red. Glad that they got a proper door handle for the rear door this time. The screen with the giant bezel looks really weird to me though.

Coming to the engine, as the market transitions to EVs and with oil prices staying above the 100 mark, I guess making cars fuel efficient is the only way for ICE cars right now, especially if it is a hatchback. I owned a Swift for 11 years and the refinement on that thing was the same even after all those years.

But I wonder - why do we have to compromise one thing for the other? Suzuki's crash test results have been dismal but their cars are super reliable (NCAP results over the years have not changed a bit for them). Tata has brought a revolution in the industry but they leave a lot to be desired when it comes to reliability (speaking of experiences with people I know and online as well).
What concerns me is that the average person doesn't understand the concept of crash test ratings. For them, 5 stars = tank armour and you see that even in the way they drive or the way your average Youtube video advertises it. Even more dangerous for a country where licenses can be bought.

With all being said, I am sure the new Swift will continue pulling good numbers purely on the sales and service experience MS continues to offer.

Re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

I would definitely like to check out the new Z12 engine and the new Swift in general so that I can compare how much more the car has gotten better or worser since the 2nd gen.As far as I have seen, the clear tail lamps are neat but I think the glare of the Sun during city / highway driving will make them much more harder to see. I've seen countless VWs and Hondas with the clear lens mods and it's rather hard to see when the brake lamps are lit up during daytime. In my opinion, a Lexus type of clear lens would be better with 0% tint and very bright, noticeable LEDs for the brake, turn signals and reverse lights.

Maruti Swift accessory packs priced at Rs 30,000

Maruti Suzuki launched the fourth generation Swift in India on May 9. The hatchback is priced from Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Maruti is also offering two accessories packages - Thrill Chaser and Racing Roadster, which cost an additional Rs 30,000.

The accessory packs include a special key cover and cosmetic add-ons for the doors, bonnet, mirrors and bumpers, as well as interior bits for the seats, door panels, dashboard and centre console.

Customers can order the accessories online via the Maruti Suzuki accessories website. They can also be installed at the dealership.

The Swift is available in five variants and is equipped with several features. The car gets projector headlamps with L-shaped DRLs, dual-tone alloy wheels, a 9-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charger, and more.

The 2024 Swift is available with a new Z-series 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 80 BHP @ 5,700 rpm and 112 Nm @ 4,300 rpm. The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT.

Thanks for checking out the car in person and posting it here. For me at least the gripe is the lack of outright power output from the engine. Sure, the 82 bhp is sufficient for the city driving, but the lack of outright power will be evident when you take the car out of its comfort zone. I say so because I have the underpowered Altroz 1.2NA petrol which has approximately similar power and torque figures.

I have said this in a prior post - looks will not matter in this car once you get in the drivers seat. What matters is the fact that you mash the accelerator and the engine response will be quite lethargic.

I really wonder if it would or just a marketing gimmick since the flow past the cover is a complete mess (look at the pic).

Its a Good looking car. They have retained the 'Swift' elements while modernising this version.

No doubt, looks are subjective as I have experienced it myself when I bought first gen Swift in 2006. Many of my friends didn't like the looks and one also went on to call it fat lady bum when she looked at it from rear. And on the other hand, me and my family absolutely loved it at first sight.

I'm glad they put rear door handles back to where it belongs as I always found it very weird to open rear door on previous gen car.

Money making schemes of Maruti will continue while other companies like VW, Honda, Ford are still trying to figure out the market.

Re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

Just four years before before when VW had the GT TSI on sale with a direct injection turbo petrol four cylinder coupled with a seven speed DSG for 11.xx lakhs on road and now a Swift top end costs the same or even more thanks to BS6 emission norms and stringent safety regulations but still the price for the new Swift is difficult to digest, it loses out on a cylinder has lesser power and torque and gives utmost priority to fuel efficiency and yes, the car now gets a ton of features and tech but still no auto dimming irvm and 15 K more for a dual tone paint job and 30 K for an accessory kit, these schemes by MSIL are so ancient just like their five speed gearbox and no proper auto but an AMT even in 2024, sad to see that’s what the target audience for the segment needs now or what Maruti wants it to be, at least one can hope that the next gen will be electric and not a two cylinder petrol that gives 35 kmpl

Maruti actually experimented with a 2 cylinder diesel a few years ago! That aside, the fact is the the Polo is no longer on sale in India while the Swift is. It is an entry point for mostly new car buyers and Maruti's pan India reach makes it the car of choice.

Now, Maruti has evolved the styling of the Swift, plonked in its new Z series engine, thrown in 6 airbags (halleluiah!), made mention of 45% high tensile steel in the body shell and we are even talking about the probability of a good BNCAP rating. Some people just want to bash Maruti whatever they do.

We should grow out of this brand hate and learn to accept a car for what it is..!

The new gen swift is a simple no-nonsense probably reliable (probably because it is a new engine) lightweight fun to drive hatchback. Not a smartphone on wheels, not having overly complex powertrains that throws tantrums frequently. Is it ok to launch such a car in this day and age..? It absolutely is..!

Indeed, Maruti has become the people mover, top choice for hassle-free travel in the scorching heat of North India, offering uninterrupted mobility, excellent fuel mileage, and unparalleled reliability.
Maruti Suzuki truly understands and caters to the needs of its customer base.

I quite like the styling of the new car especially the interiors. The dashboard layout and the meters are so cool. I am glad they used the analogue ones which are so much in sync with it's sporty demeanour. Still no proper headrest for all three rear occupants as standard which in my opinion is a big bummer. Is MSIL providing whiplash protection only to it's posh 'Nexa' buyers and not to the 'Arena' buyers (pun intended). Hope MSIL provides proper headrest for all three occupants at the rear thoughout the variants like they did with their Fronx and Baleno as soon as possible.

Anyways, a fellow TBHPian and I got a chance to check out the new Swift and honestly, I think it is going to be another runaway success. The sales lady at the showroom which we visited said that they had a lot of walk-ins yesterday for the launch. Their booking count is at around 25. Another showroom which I drove past twice today, had two cars on display and a whole load of walk-ins.

Sooooooooooo much has been said about the styling without people even seeing the car in a showroom. All this chatter about how awful the clamshell design is, will vanish once the car is in front of you. This is a very tasteful evolution of the classic Swift formula.
I completely agree with you. The new Swift looks absolutely stunning, is very well thought out in the way it is equipped, and should play to all of the Swift's traditional strengths. It is very common to criticise newly launched products these days as we as consumers have moved up the expectations ladder, having been exposed to world class equipment and vehicles. But, the complaints regarding the way it looks and the 3-cylinder engine are unfounded. This looks very good even in pictures and the clamshell bonnet doesn't really stand out that much.

Regarding the engine, we can't really comment on it without having driven the car and really experienced it for ourselves. This engine may actually be fun. The only stumbling block I see with the new Swift is the pricing. I get that new platforms require a sizeable investment to develop, but at this price, Suzuki is blurring the value lines between this and the bigger and more premium Baleno. Given a typical Maruti buyer's decision process, value for money is top dog and the new Swift won't find itself any favours in this regard. But the Swift brand is a much loved and enduring one and if anything can break this trend, it has to be the new Swift.

I am incidentally in the market for a new car, probably in a year or two, and this new Swift is a very strong contender, going just by the way it looks and feels.

Re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

Ofcourse we all know beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, so I am not surprised by such extreme views about the looks of the Swift. Personally, I think it looks very very smart and gives an impression of a European hatch. The blue color with the black roof and those black stripes on the hood, that in my books is jaw dropping beautiful. This one has to be bought in a manual and the AMT should be avoided as it does not match with the overall appeal of the car.

Re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

The MSIL folks are clearly looking for the adage ‘Kitna deti hai’ and Indians will definitely lap it up even when the world has moved on to performance driven engines because running costs do matter in this parts of the world. At least MSIL has been innovative enough to plonk a totally new engine with an improved fuel efficiency and stronger body shell than its predecessor.
This model will find lots of takers and MSIL sure knows how to milk the ‘Swift’ brand with their tried and tested formulae of pricing it a slight premium and keep the reliability equation intact.
