Zekardo provides PDI as service and I had hired them. They do a detailed check of the car as well as run some diagnostics. They charged me 2.5k. Alternatively, look up the PDI checklist of Team BHP.

Hi Everyone,

I apologise if these issues have been discussed earlier and this post is repetitive. My questions are below:
  1. What to keep in mind and/or check while conducting the PDI
  2. Is there a diagnostics that the dealership can run to ensure that everything looks ok or is this demand an overkill?

I availed the service of Zekardo last month, and I am satisfied with the service and the report they provided.

I live in Bangalore and bought a car from Delhi(for BH series number). My friend and Zekardo agent did PDI of the vehicle. After that, I traveled to Delhi for the car delivery.

"out of the 3 million plus new cars that get sold in India each year, a staggering 16% suffer from severe manufacturing defects" says the blog at Zekardo, a new car PDI inspection service. Along with putting up with increasing minor defects, as though its the norm, we'll now have to spend extra on such services too.

Example: most new cars have minor paint defects and inconsistent panel gaps now which can't be identified during a quick PDI even by someone with an eye for detail. So basically, customers are forced to double up as amateur quality control and then be liable to deal with it if something is overlooked - if a car gets registered, we're stuck with it!

We seriously need to stop being saddled with defective cars, except for minor niggles. It's high time we have lemon car laws with refund/replacement policies in India too as the Consumer Protection Act 2019 does not have specific product liability provisions for automobiles.

Hello guys, this is my first post here. I have booked an astor with the MG showroom in Ghaziabad. Their response has been very underwhelming. They keep on increasing the delivery date and only respond properly if they feel that the customer might leave. Does anyone here have an experience with them? Just wondering if I am overreacting or this is normal. This is the first car purchase that I am doing myself. I am also looking to get PDI done by zekardo, if anyone has experience with them then it will be helpful.

Did PDI today. Zekardo rated the vehicle 10/10. Hopefully delivery on Monday. Fingers crossed.

I availed professional PDI service from Zekardo (3rd party). Sharing the report here. I believe this may give some additional pointers to all potential buyers.

This is useful. Many people don't have the eye for detail or skills required to do this themselves. While buying a 20 Lakh Rupee car spending 2500 for PDI is a no brainer. Thanks.

Definitely will go with this when I have the car allotted. At this price, its worth it. :thumbs up

Finally took the plunge and bought the Topline Virtus 1.0 (Wild Cherry Red). My usage is primarily city driving, with a long highway trip (~800Km) every few months.

I did the final booking through PPS Volkswagen and found them very supportive and helpful. I could not do the PDI in person due to health issues and used Zekardo.com for an expert PDI. They did quite a thorough job and kept me updated on whatsapp with videos and photos.

I am collecting the vehicle this Thursday / Friday and will be headed for a long trip around the 13th. Had a few queries from the gurus here:

Running in: Any do's and don't during the running in period? How do I ensure that I a well run in engine and no putting undue strain on the car during the long road trip planned for 13th?

Accessories: I have not taken any accessories from the dealer. Will be fixing the dashcam from my old car here, and planning to get these Red & Black 7D mats from Amazon as they have good feedback. Are there better choices available which I should consider?

Are there any other accessories which are 'must have' for the car?

^^ not a bad business model. Would be really good if they are offering this for used cars too. One can pay them to have the first validation check before I, as a buyer, make the efforts to figure out a mechanic / FNG / travel etc for the more detailed check. Should be worth it especially if one is buying from a different city.

They should do one for Used Cars. It will be beneficial for people who shortlist cars after driving but get want to get an 'expert opinion' which derisks things.
When I got my Figo, I went to the Ford dealer and paid a similar amount for inspection.

Quite an extensive checklist! I hope they extend this service to used cars as well.

Can Zekardo assist in buying pre-owned cars?

I am willing to pay some premium, if a 3rd party can do thorough check on cars, service history, background etc and give a certificate. Spinny in someway does this but their cars are not VFM.

I know of a similar company who inspects pre-owned car. They go by the name Gomechanic in Mumbai.
They basically have tie up with multiple FNGs in and around Mumbai.

We availed of their services to buy a pre-owned BMW 3 series GT. They came armed with a laptop to check for errors. They even took the car at one of the garages and did full underbody check up as well. Their charges were reasonable and the service guy even suggested to negotiate with the dealer a bit more based on the defects that were observed.
Found them to be professional in their approach.

Honestly I feel it says a lot about how bad the consumer law is in our country, and how poorly the manufacturers treat their customers as we now have to avail a third party PDI person to even check a brand new car parked in the showroom which have not even run a kilometer. PDI for used cars is still understandable.

With the way things are heading, a customer will be considered lucky if they really get a perfect new car at the time of delivery:unhappy.

Good model. Need to see how they sustain and scale as dealers may start creating issues with allowing such 3rd party PDI's

Wheels Wisdom have been providing used car inspections for a while now(Although only in Bangalore). Have not used the service, but have used their regular service assist several times in the past and have been satisfied. So I assume they do a fair job with it.

Wheels Wisdom used car inspections

This was one area ripe for disruption and I'm glad someone did. Eventually I expect a bigger pan India brand to step in, and potentially have synergies with insurance brands. There's a market here.
