God Bless Competition! With these updates VW/Skoda Twins are great options to buy in the category, they are the 'right size' for the city without being too big and have enthusiastic powertrains for all budgets, initial hiccups on the fuel pump seems to be resolved, AC issues are slowly being ironed out and 1.5 DSG is relatively more reliable than before, keeping fingers crossed !

I am sure VW/Skoda will iron out all the quality issues with MQB A0 IN and deliver a polished product as part of the facelift in about 1 year from now.

If only Indians believed in Skoda/VW to that extent. Apart from the issues, their service is a rip off and therefore the sales chart have never been set on fire.

We constantly badger our own Tata motors for quality issues, however look at the way they have evolved with the Nexon. It is surely a better bet then the Skoda/VW twins at this time.

Their service costs now with their India based platforms are quite reasonable and at par with most other manufacturers. I have not heard of any fit and finish issues like Tata cars.

Been using a Vento over 8 years now, have never faced any issue in terms of reliability.

VAG service has been an issue in the past and has some catching up to do, having said that, VW Taigun that we have in the extended family had the first service bill come to Rs 5000/- which included the Oil change, Oil filter and AC filter, this seems to be at par with other manufacturers, In fact when we had a minor fender bender that required side claddings to be replaced, the prices for these parts were quite value for money. When it comes to the parts that are imported, the story is different where there are availability issues and steep pricing to deal with, this is where VAG needs to pay some attention.

Regarding Tata Nexon, I have not driven the latest DCA variant yet, but have seen one in the showroom, Tatas have not been able to offer an enthusiastic petrol engine till now and there is no point in comparing Tata and VAG on performance, with the latter being significantly better in the petrol powertrain department. Nexon is a fantastic option in the segment and the quality issues seem to have been sorted to a large extent too, but its time Tata comes out with a product that has no fit and finish issues from the factory consistently, I dont see any issue in criticizing a manufacturer for the negatives, the feedback will only improve them! Look at how Hyundai was forced to come out with a 5 star rated Verna (Unstable bodyshell notwithstanding!).

Having owned the Vento for 10 years, I can say that service is slightly more expensive than a Maruti or Hyundai. Typical 10k / 15k interval which is about a year costs somewhere in the range of 15-20k. I don't recollect ever paying more than that. Of course, there are specific areas of concern for VAG vehicles like injectors etc. but I am glad we continue to have that TDi workhorse at home.

From a sales perspective, the problem with VAG has always been that they were mostly a one-trick pony. While Toyota can get away with that sorta lineup, no one else should even think they'll succeed. With the current model line-up that is getting better.

I don't think anyone expects VAG to become a chart topper - somewhere in the 5-6% share is a great achievement for them.

The VAG twins need ADAS to make it a compelling package, hope it's going to come with the facelift. Also a better AC would be welcome.

As prospective buyer, I want better reverse camera, all 4 windows 1 touch operation and a 360 camera. ADAS in India based on my experience is pretty useless except on highways as are electrically adjustable seats without memory settings.

I wonder if the subwoofer and the amp and the footwell illumination can be retrofitted to existing Virtus and Taigun.

I was planning to install the rear spoiler and the 360 camera in the next few months. The dealership quoted 6.2k for the spoiler and 36k for the 360 camera. I might just cancel the camera and go for the amp and subwoofer instead.

Will the aftermarket 360⁰ camera be well integrated and implemented without voiding the warranty?

Yes the 360° camera does not void the warranty.

Electric seats are actually way more useful than people give them credit for. You can adjust it in minute increments which are generally not possible in manual seats. Trying to find that perfect angle is easier when you don't have to keep yanking your body around to push the seat forward or back. Memory is useful but not having it isn't a dealbreaker unless there are more than 8 way adjustable settings. This one looks like basic 6 way adjust.

People generally talk about how slow electric seats are but how many times have you had to yank your manual driver's seat all the way to the front or back? And how many times have you wanted to do a small adjustment when you are driving without having to shift your weight?

Absolutely agree with you. Electric seats without memory can be slow and frustrating while you get in and out but once seated, they're very convenient. Those minute adjustments really matter, can help reduce stress and unlike their mechanical counterparts, small adjustments can be made on the go without having to completely stop the vehicle. But, it's got to be 8 way at least for the driver. I find the 6 way ones on the MG vehicles for example, useless. The 4 way ones on the Hyundais are a total gimmick and I rather not have powered seats at all.
Any link to see what's being offered on the VAG twins? Their websites usually lack useful information and I wouldn't be surprised if they've picked up some generic powered seat switch image off Google to put it up on their website.

I will be cautious with that after-market addition on any VW cars, in particular, if hardwired. It can still be managed if the dealership has sold you that accessory. The dealership will surely bother you with that accessory if there is any electrical fault.

I have an after market 360 degree camera on my Virtus & did check with the VW service center, the SA mentioned it will not void warranty as long as there is no cutting of wires involved. Infact the 360 degree camera setup VW offers through their service center is an after market one. The after market implementation is very good, the camera on the ORVMs get activated when you switch on the indicators & you can manually switch on the 360 camera in tight spots.
