Was completely necessary. Before the ADAS related facelift, Hector was a very VFM proposition, focussed on features and comfort. With facelift, they tried adding even more features, but in the process brought it dangerously close to Harrier and XUV700.

It's regained some of that VFM quotient now in petrol guise, with Hector in petrol top end automatic now undercutting the XUV700 by nearly 4L (OTR prices). However, in Diesel MT, it's still dangerously close to XUV 700, with the price difference of 2.3L.

MG is running additional discounts as well. A friend of mine tried to enquire about a new Hector. They are ready to give an additional 80,000 - 1 lakh discount if we invoice the car this month. So all in all, you can get the Hector for 2 lakh less.

Hector is feeling the heat from new Seltos I guess. Good to see offers in this seller dominated market!

It's no more a seller dominated market. I got a 95k OTR discount last month on my Hector Plus Sharp PRO 7S.

Wow! I’m impressed just on account of the fact that someone in management had the gumption to go out and do what’s needed to make the car more attractive to buyers. Remember, a X amount reduction in ex showroom price (as opposed to an X amount of discount) actually benefits the customer more given that they now pay taxes on a lower priced car.

Someone please share the memo with Jeep India. They’re going around hiking prices when their cars needed discounts to move even pre - hike. Inexplicable!!

Hi Axe77 - I agree with you. Generally whenever people buy vehicle they check price of competition online and firm up their decision based on the price they see online. Very few compare onroad price after discount in initial shortlisting. Beside, discount are different for different cities and capacity of individual how much discount she/he can extract.

The price cut in ex-showroom price will definitely help. I also feel that its time MG should consider improving FE of their Hector & Astor twins by tweaking the engine.

A similar price cut of 1 lac flat was announced by Ford on their then highest selling model EcoSport after successful launch of Maruti-Suzuki's 1st Gen Vitara Brezza. We all know, prices are being increased not proportionate to input costs but simply based on demand and desirability of car. MG is feeling heat already and we don't see or hear any news on next gen Hector as well. How long are they going to have Hector? Also, with talks of they trying to find Indian partner, I wish this does not go Ford way.

The priced hiked during the initial BSVI 2 / RDE + tax increase in March, is back to the original ex showroom price of 21.73L.
I'd still say it was worth it, the car has far surpassed any and every expectations we had. And would still highly recommend that this be on bucket list when looking for a new SUV.

Commendable effort by MG. In this day and age where most car manufacturers are greedy and jack up prices even for struggling models (*cough* JEEP *cough*), this announcement is a pleasant surprise. Looks like there will be even more MG Hectors in our office parking lot soon.

Re: MG Hector & Hector Plus prices reduced by up to Rs. 1.37 lakh

I am extremely impressed by MG! Although I ended up cancelling my booking of Astor, the customer centric experience I had is commendable. From day 1 of the booking, I had complete details of all the escalation points and the MG service desk was very proactive in connecting and getting responses from dealership not they needed to as the dealership seniors was also quite accessible.

To me it seems they have a very clear plan in mind, to make butch and feature rich cars (what most people look for) and provide excellent after sales service (what rarely any other company delivers on).
I won’t comment on safety as I don’t believe they have volunteered for GNCAP testing of any of their products but I am hopeful.

I believe increasing presence in tier 2 and 3 cities will help in the acceptance of the brand and increase in volumes.

Re: MG Hector & Hector Plus prices reduced by up to Rs. 1.37 lakh

Smart move from a strong also ran. This will hit the sales of Harrier, Safari. Compass and Meridian barely sell so won't affect them much. Alcazar and Karens may feel the heat a bit. Creta, Seltos, XUV 700 and Scorpio have enough and more for a year. So they won't bother. MG is one car whose performance is rarely questioned, never praised sky high as well. But remains steady. People dont buy it, like they do, some Indian brands, for the love of motherland. May be they are not buying them for their Chinese origin. But seems to be a good car, niggle free and reasonably well engineered. Low maintenance. Except a long turning radius have not heard too many complaints about it.
