I'm not sure whether you really sat in the rear and sharing your observation w.r.t Kushaq. I did and I can say that leg room for rear occupants is more than enough with person sitting in the driver seat being 5.11 and I being 5.10 sitting just behind. I still had few inches left to touch front driver seat's backside!
And with Kyalq, with plans to just strip off some front part that was just elongated in Kushaq to give it a SUV look, Im sure there is no compromise on the legroom for both front and rear occupants!
Let's see once it reaches the show rooms.

I feel that these events definitely help with brand building and generate excitement towards an upcoming product. I am happy that Skoda is continuing to make extended gestures to ensure long term personal relationships with its customers. This also goes on to show their commitment towards India.
Like many here, I hope that Octavia is relaunched in the Indian market.

The narrative on this thread is eerily similar to when Skoda shared the name of their new car then, the Kushaq.

From discussion around name of the car to the prowess or the lack of it in new Skoda/VAG cars and then how Kushaq looked smaller in face of competition to the eventual price point it got launched.

If the trend continues for Kylaq like Kushaq, we are looking at another product which will flame first for a few months and then settle down like slow burning coal.

I sincerely wish Skoda pivots their strategy with this new product- be it the product on offering or price point. The competition is brutal in this segment and the management needs to be absolutely clear on the outcomes they want to achieve with the new product.

I guess, I didn't mean to the probable product related efforts after the launch.
But I intended more towards some exciting customer-centric stuff, like FansOfSkoda meet-ups, local Drive Events, Adventure drives, activities for ŠkodaGearheads community etc.

And the upgrading with some tweaks here and there kinda efforts are commonly practiced across the sector as their marketing strategies irrespective of the brand names.

"Pah! A paltry 999cc engine. That too a three cylinder. Sir, we are offering a four cylinder, 1500cc engine." Something which I have heard from sales personnel of some rival companies.

People who have driven a 1.0 TSI, will never believe this garbage. The naive ones among us fall prey to such tactics, not knowing that this paltry 999cc engine can outrun all of the 1.5 naturally aspirated engines, and a couple of 1.2 turbos too.

When I first test drove the 1.0 TSI, I rechecked with the sales person, whether he has brought the 1.5 by mistake

Once launched, the Kylaq 1.0 TSI will be the pocket rocket many were waiting for. And it might be the quickest, best handling car in the segment. And having learnt their lesson, I am hoping Skoda will be offering features from day one.

Spotted the Skoda Kylaq testing at night. Size looks decent considering the sub 4m segment. Should be a good competitor to other compact SUVs.

As a South Indian, I have zero problems telling the R sound apart from the D sound, so this problem seems almost exclusively North Indian, in nature! Is it about sounding cool, like the Paari hori hai girl, or something else? I'm clueless, but look forward to enjoying my chai and pakoDa, when the weather is gloomy!

Skoda Kylaq production to begin by October 2024

Skoda is gearing up to introduce its first compact SUV, the Kylaq, in the Indian market early next year. As per the latest reports, production of the Skoda Kylaq will commence as early as October 2024.



Skoda is said to be planning for an annual production volume of 50,000 to 70,000 units. Initially, the Kylaq will be sold in the domestic market, but Skoda plans to export it to overseas markets as well.

The Skoda Kylaq will be based on the MQB A0-IN platform, shared with the Kushaq and Slavia. The exterior design of the car will retain the typical Skoda SUV language, while its interior promises to offer a “big car” feel.

In India, the Kylaq is expected to be offered with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions.

The Skoda Kylaq will be positioned below the Kushaq and compete with models like the Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet.

Production starts a whole 6 months before launch, with what I think is a very optimistic target of 4000-5800 units/month.

No exports planned initially.

And Petr Janeba has gone on record as saying that the car won’t have as many features as the competition but will rely on driving dynamics to sell.

So it’s clear to me that Škoda are either targeting a really aggressive starting price or Simply Stupid.

This sounds like a bad idea. Just look at Citroen, who seems to have tried this approach. Everybody was praising the engines on offer, and they were rewarded by people staying away in droves.

Why? Because of the high asking price and the very short features list. It was a great car mechanically, but that alone usually doesn't sell.

Granted, Skoda may not have suck glaring omissions like not offering an AT for 2-3 years(!!!), no sunroof, no ACC etc. But knowing Skoda, they'll overprice it, leading to another dud.

Is Skoda preponing the launch of Kylaq? If yes, then Skoda please do not compromise in the overall reliability of the product or else it'll meet the similar fate as Kushaq.
