Lol, looks like they ran a code to provide pronounceable words starting with a K and ending with Q. Or ran an employee survey with Google forms to get these names. This will either kill the Kushaq, because people will get confused with let's say karmiq, or people will not even realise a new car is launched.

The reason why manufacturers still look at the mass market segments is because of business sustainability. Having a portfolio of low volume-high margin cars may improve profitability, but it is a risky thing to do in the long run. Eventually, sales will drop off in this segment too and reach a point where people cannot afford to buy them over and over again. This is what happened in the European market. Mass market cars ensure that the business is running even if margins are low. They are a safety net. This is why Citroen in India is still doggedly sticking to the low-budget market despite their abject failure in that market. The budget segment is also relatively more insulated from the larger price shocks that upmarket models tend to experience given their design complexities. There is less uncertainty here. To succeed in India, one has to look at what sells and add to it. Unfortunately, that's where most manufacturers get it wrong.

I had submitted 6 names out of which 3 seems to be appearing here. Each name had a thot process as explained below:-

Kayaq: is derived from Kayak, a canoe, built tough, which wades through rough as well as calm waters. Name goes with the nature of Compact SUV

Konarq: is derived from the city of konark in Odisha. With reference to the magnificent Konark Sun Temple which is elegantly designed and robustly built. Good designs and robust build quality is what skoda is also known for.

Kliq: is derived from the word click, a short word which is actually a verb, a compact name for a compact suv. Can also have the tagline ' Skoda Kliq, effortless like a click', I know it sounds a bit kiddish!

Other names I had entered were

Kaniq: inspired from the word kanika, a term used for for particle(atom) in Sanskrit. This goes with the nature of small suv.

Karnaq: from the Egyptian place karnak where Egyptian's believe they connect with the divine.

Kayanaq: inspired from the word kaynat that means universe.

Skoda's compact SUV has been spied in a near-production guise.

- will have a shorter wheelbase than the Kushaq.

- spy shots suggest Skoda has also chopped the front and rear overhangs in order for the SUV to measure under 4 metres in length.

- could look like a shrunken Kushaq as Skoda could be aiming for a family look.

I am not aware of the reason(s), and assuming there must be one or several, as to why none of the car manufacturers, whether Indian or Foreign, don't name their cars with Indian names?

The only car name, ever tor have an Indic name, which comes to my mind, was the old Fiat under Premier brand name Padmini.

On the topic though, isn't the Kushaq and Taigun already not compact enough that they now need to come up with an even smaller version.

I am assuming this to be the size of the original Fabia.

yes, sub-4m SUV category.
Fabia was also 4m. so yes, same in length.

Basically, This new car from skoda will be a Nexon competitor.

The Kushaq is generally seen as a grade higher.

Also the key for this new Skoda SUV will be the rumored Turbo petrol engine, which should, on paper, make this a potential drivers car in the sub-4m SUV segment.
