Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

Its still unclear if SKODA is targetting Venue Nexon Sonnet Magnite 3999mm segment or its targetting the C3 Punch Exter micro suv 3850mm-3950mm segment.

So that suspense is still maintained.

Also another possibility could be 1 liter non turbo TSI which will help reduce cut the price further for lower variants.

So some excitement and mystery can be expected till launch or unveil.

TSI stands for "Turbocharged Stratified Injection". There is no non-turbo TSI. If you meant 1 liter NA engine, I don't think they will go back to a lethargic small NA engines.

My mistake, I actually meant 1 liter FSI or Fuel Stratified Injection, something which is sometimes called non turbo Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI).

Removal of turbo will reduce cost but keep the torque benefits with the direct injection.

As it is 1.2 liter NA engines are in use on Venue and Sonnet. So a direct injection non turbo could have some kind of differentiating factor with cost benefit was my thought.

Skoda's compact SUV spied testing in India

Skoda's upcoming compact SUV spied in India:

Quote:
To rival Brezza, Nexon, Venue and Sonet.
Will get the 115hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine.
The test mule features wraparound LED tail-lights, a spoiler-mounted brake light, along with non-functional roof rails. Other styling bits will include a split-headlight setup with slim LED Daytime Running Lamps sitting atop the main headlamp housing, as well as the signature Skoda grille.

Quote:
its wheelbase will measure 2,566mm – 85mm shorter than the Kushaq’s. It will also have smaller wheels than the Kushaq's 16- and 17-inch alloys.

Skoda has confirmed that the compact SUV will be powered solely by its 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 115hp and 178Nm mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter.

Quote:
expect it to be around Rs 9 lakh-14 lakh (ex-showroom), which will put it on par with a majority of its rivals. Skoda has confirmed that the SUV will go on sale in March 2025, and will also likely be exported to markets like South America, South-East Asia and Africa, among others.

Looks like a Kushaq. This is how the Kushaq looks wearing camouflage in 2021.

A smaller and lighter car with the 1.0 TSI. Should be a hoot to drive assuming typical Skoda handling.

Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

This segment is already crowded and their existing Kushaq is already smaller than the competition. Instead of focusing on this small car segment, they should fill the gap between KUSHAQ & KODIAQ, where 25 to 35 Lakhs segment will be next big thing, I guess. And it is not that crowded yet. Few good cars will ignite this segment where right now only TUCSON is there.

Lot of people are upgrading from CRETA/SELTOS/HONDA CITY/VERNA/BREEZA/ERTIGA and they don't have much choice in the market. TATA & MAHINDRA offer very good products, but there are people who still do not opt for local brand due to it's reliability, ASS standards and their badge value.

What I am expecting is a slightly smaller, 5 seater Kodiaq, with quality and features with Ex-showroom price of 28 to 34 L can sell like a hot cake.

Could it be the Kushaq facelift? I’m wondering how a prototype of an all new car looks production ready in the first ever spyshot!!

Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

I just don't get how a powerhouse like VWAG can bungle up critical segment decisions in a large market like India.

While constantly saying that the MQB A0 IN platform cannot be shortened below 4 meters, thereby removing the chance of a Polo for India (Still fuming about it by the way)- they launched the Kushaq-Taigun on this platform - that in all fairness look like sub4m cars in the end! Park besides a Nexon or Brezza and this is glaringly obvious. Then the pricing isn't upto the mark of the Korean competition given the lesser number of features on offer in comparison.

All of a sudden now - some magic has happened; or some paradigm shifting engineering breakthrough, using which the MQB A0 can suddenly be shortened below 4 meters! Et Viola!

Its saddening to see a group with a history of making cult-inducing cars, keeps doing this in a high potential market like ours. Our bad luck!

The one testing looks like it has flatter rear end and also the rear windshield is not as raked as the Kushaq's.

Also the roof rails are way different. The Kushaq one has proper roof rails, while the one testing has those cosmetical stuck on roof rails.

Cars in both the pictures above are totally different. Even their registration plates are different.

Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

I just hope it doesn't turn out the way how VW took the Vento and made the horrible looking Ameo, which had the horrible looking truncated boot. It needs to look like a proper SUV.

I again agree with some other users on here, that Skoda should have gone bigger and more premium and target XUV and Safari segment with a larger car, instead of the sub 4m segment. They are finally (again) chasing volumes over premium image.

Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

Contrary to what others feel, I am quite excited to have a sub-4m car from Skoda. With cities getting congested and traffic not getting any better, I want a small car which can do city duties, and be fun and safe to drive on highways on those road trips.

With Skoda sub-4M 1L TSI, I get all these in a single package without having to spend big bucks on taxes (45% GST on >4M SUVs). If priced competitively, this is a no-brainer for me. I strongly feel Skoda will get good voumes if they nail this one.
