Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

If they plan to give 1.5 TSI motor in it, the most apt name will be Kwiq

A sub 1 tonne weighing car with 150 bhp. Definitely will be very Kwiq.

Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

March 2025 is exactly one full year from now. By then, think of the combined sales of Nexon, Venue, Brazza and Sonet. Except for Brezza, diesel options are also available, including automatic transmission. How far can Skoda compete with this segment with just a 1.0 TSI motor? Added to it, the deteriorating quality of interior materials in Skoda and VW.

Agree. The new car cannot be too small and should be very close to 4m to be able to compete with Sonet (at 3995mm).

This leaves very little real-estate difference between the new car and Kushaq (at 4.2m) for Skoda to be able to justify the price difference. The new launch would definitely eat into Kushaq's sales more than anything else.

Essentially, Kushaq should have been the smaller car under 4m and the Karoq taking on the likes of Seltos.

Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

Have to agree with earlier posts. Skoda has already smaller SUVs in the higher segment which dont have the presence which we indians look for and are late to the game too.

So on lighter note I have two questions and a name suggestion.
Why Skoda - why late? why smaller? - Kyon?

Hindi translated name : KyonQ

Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

India is one of the markets where the Skoda brand actually enjoys a premium brand image. Correct me if wrong, but everywhere else it’s mostly seen as a budget and value for money brand. I think they are diluting their brand in India with products which seem likely to be duds. Anyone remember the Fabia? Good car but couldn’t compete against the likes of i20 and Swift. Kushaq itself seems so small! I actually thought it was sub 4m. They should launch products that compete in one segment above, not below - take on the likes of Alcazar and Hycross.

Re: Skoda to launch a Compact SUV in 2025

I was looking at one of interviews the Skoda official gave. I see they are still looking at volumes. More than volume its like milking the current platform.

Like I mentioned in the Ford thread, I still strongly think Skoda is well placed to conquer the 30-50L segment.

While the sub-4m is hotly contested segment, they can actually build on the premium segment and establish a great operating margin. People are still ready to lap up a good product in his range like the Kodiaq/Tiguan, if only Skoda can commit to build on this product line.

Unfortunately customers have no option but to move to 50+ for lack of any products.

Still all said and done, it's great to see Skoda coming up with new products.

I was under the impression that the purpose of shrinking to 4m was to qualify for the tax exception, the 1.5 engine would take it outside this bracket and then the price difference between this and the kushaq could become negligible. So I don't think this would happen.

This is actually one of the two names I had suggested on the form. After seeing your post I don't think Škoda will consider it!

I have a gut feeling that they might give base variants the 1.0 MPI. None of its rivals have a turbo on their base variants and even the biggest NA (Brezza) is significantly less powerful+torquey than the 1.0 TSI. And in the sub-4m segment the starting price is what makes a splash.

Don't think so. Even when Europe had the 95bhp tune with 5 speed manual, VAG launched the 110bhp tune with 6 speed manual in the Rapid/Polo. No reason for them to go below the 1.0TSI. Anyway they are not going to be the cheapest in the segment, why bother introducing an all new(for India) engine with inferior tech especially with the RDE/CAFE norms around.

Negligible price difference with the Kushaq, but maybe not the Kushaq 1.5.

Anyway they won't launch it with the 1.5. Heck, I was even surprised they launched the Kushaq/Slavia/Virtus/Taigun with a 1.5l as option instead of just the 1.0l.

But we can dream right. A sub 4m car with 150bhp would be nuts!!!!

I fully agree with this. Now that the big Germans are all north of 50 lakhs, the 30-50 lakh segment is open for Skoda. Skoda has good products in this range and they would get good margins as well. They, however need to improve the dealership experience

Škoda Epiq, offers a first glimpse of Škoda’s approach to entry-level BEVs

Skoda presents the small BEV (25K Euros), 4.1m in length and ~ 400 km range.

Skoda Epiq

According to Skoda, the 4.1-metre-long model will offer a spacious interior and a luggage compartment of up to 490 litres.

Finally, the second car in a handful of new electric cars makes the Epiq debut in 2025. In fact, the larger Elroq model is due to be introduced at the end of 2024.
