Didn't know the 6 series even had a 4 cylinder option, atleast in India. In my mind it was an exclusively i6 and V8 model.

Or is this part of BMW's ongoing CAFE conforming effort?

Globally BMW 6 series GT is to be discontinued from November 2023.

Why would any one want to buy this and risk poor aftersales due to unavailability of parts.

Looks like last bit of kits are being dispatched as its curtain for 6GT.

Wouldn't touch this car with a barge pole unless you don't mind depreciation and aftersales.

Its a shame as its a fantastic package especially in its 630D guise. I am not sure if they ever sold the 6 Cyl petrol variant of this in India. With a mouthwatering discount, this could still be a good buy as BMW India isnt going anywhere and there a good bunch of 6 series owners who need their car serviced and spares shouldnt be a problem.

Only the 630d was available with a 6 cylinder diesel here. The 630i and 620d were all 4 cyclinders, same tune as the 5 series.

Took a test drive of 630i, the car is very good, the interiors are way above its category. It has better features than an X5 in a lot of cases. If someone doesn't worry about EOL of the car, then its a good car. You can an upfront 4L discount and one can push for a bit more.

Thanks.

Guess my mind is still stuck in the previous gen 6 series. Knew till how the 6 series was the coupe version of 5 series, but then the 6 series got its own coupe sedan version. But just now read that the existing 6 series is a successor to the previous gen 5 GT and that the 8 series is the spiritual successor of the ertswhile 6 series.

Edit: Just now found that the 8 series is not just a coupe/convertible but also has a coupe sedan version.

May I ask what features it has over the X5 M-sport?

The overall interior quality is pretty good, things like the Velar material used, the leather used in the right places, 6GT has got those parts pretty good.
The window blinds are electric in 6GT, manual in X5.
The rear seats have 2 screens in GT, thats missing in X5.
The rear seat reclination is more in GT infact electrically adjustable. i sort of dont remember if we could control it on X5.

What is making 6GT appealing are things like adaptive suspension, Engine, Gear box which are similar to x5. But 6GT is giving that for 35L less that is what is interesting.

The engines are different. The 6GT comes with the B48 4-cylinder 30i engine with 255 bhp and 400 NM of torque, whereas the X5 has the lovely B58 6-cylinder 40i engine with 375 bhp and 520 NM of torque. Both are great engines. The X5 40i also comes with a mild-hybrid in India.

Cheers!
