Re: August 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Anaysis

Tata drops 2% in sales, thanks to the upcoming Nexon 2023. With both the ICE and EV versions ready for launch, expect a bounce back very soon.

Punch and Tiago pushing their weight along. Did Tiago ever make the 10k mark before? The Punch also needs the turbo petrol and why not the diesel?

Exter helping Hyundai to consolidate the #2 slot.

All Mahindra SUVs showing respectable numbers.

As expected, the MG Comet is losing favour quickly. I did find a few around town, but the price is a bit steep just for the novelty.

Re: August 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Anaysis

Interesting to see the split-up between Grand Vitara(11k) and Hyrider(4k). For essentially the same car, Maruti version sells almost thrice as much as Toyota version. This is inspite of Toyota service being regarded a notch higher than Maruti.

Shows the brand value and reach of Maruti brand.

Re: August 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Anaysis

Looks like MSIL's entire portfolio has landed in the Top 20 with just a few left out.

Tata with its Punch, Tiago, Nexon and Altroz stays firm while Kia has only the Seltos to mark its presence. Two of Hyundai 's mini SUV's feature, but the i' somethings are nowhere to be seen. Unusual for the once crowned #2 carmaker. Mahindra keeps two of its usual and age old model names (no Scorpio N mention) intact in the list, while Toyota's I-Hycross too features. The rebadged Toyotas are nowhere around too in the Top 20 list!

Re: August 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Anaysis

It is insane how MSIL came up with the Fronx. I, for one, never imagined that there was room for them to slot anything between Baleno and Brezza. They not only did it, but did it without cannibalising sales of siblings on either side. A model that is just a few months old is selling 10K+ units a month!

Re: August 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Anaysis

These are OEM to Dealer sales numbers. But are these actually converting to sales from Dealers to Individual buyers?

I remember reading an article in a newspaper a few days back where FADA informed of increasing inventories at dealerships.

Re: August 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Anaysis

One thing I would suggest Mods to look into is the possibility of reporting official used car sales by each OEM. I do not for one moment believe that current demand levels and pricing power of OEMs are sustainable. There is just too much pull from the market due to many reasons including YOLO. But in this rush a very very large segment of buyers are also leaving the new car train and buying used cars. To understand our market we need to look at those numbers. The current new car sales phenomenon are creating an illusion in the minds of customers that this is normal which it is not.

Re: August 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Anaysis

Well strangely enough New Seltos is still behind the Creta by quite a margin. Is this due to old bookings getting materialized flr delivery or all the buzz created by Badass Seltos could not dampen the Creta's spirit. It would be interesting to see next month's report for sure.

Great to see our beloved TATA climbing up the charts with their products, with only 4 products they are clocking 40k+ units. Still Nexon the segment leader has been beaten but the new one is arriving soon so hopefully it crosses 15k units per month.

Wonder why don't Mahindra try to emulate the TATA's success recipe as their safety quotient is strong too??

In fact I would say that for a one model OEM, Nissan has sold more than all of the Stellantis group put together. And that too for a car that is not always talked about much.

Re: August 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Anaysis

Sadly TATA's SUV gambled has failed again. Harrier and Safari sales are dwindling. Now with world moving to EVs doubt if they would invest in another SUV platform again. May be hybrid, that will be too expensive and they won't have the talent to do so. Not a good story for them for sure.

Re: August 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Anaysis

Jeep sales are only going south month over month. Unless the Elevate numbers pick up, Honda has to worry as City seems to have settled around 1.5k. Kodiaq with only petrol model and after being more expensive has done more numbers than Tucson. And comparatively Tiguan numbers are much lower. Verna numbers seems to have settled in mid 2000s too, however some sudden jump in Virtus sales.

Jeep is in the final deathly spiral.
Hyundai and Kia are minting money with Creta/Seltos/Carens/Alcazar bringing in 20,000 units every month. But bad to see Alcazar, which is a wonderful value for money car selling less and less every month.

No sir, nothing has failed for Tata Motors. Harrier and Safari combo sold approx.4000+ units every month for the past couple of years and they are always second to XUV700.

Harrier and Safari are due for a facelift later this year and fewer sales are expected when a facelift is forthcoming.

Tata categorically mentioned that they will not invest in Hybrids and it has nothing to do with talent in this globalized world.

Tata's ICE to EV transition story is among the best with Gen 1, Gen 2, and Gen 3 platforms. They do not need to invest in another platform any time soon as most of their bases are covered with a rugged X1 platform for Nexon, Alpha platform for Altroz, Punch, and Sierra, OmegaArc platform for Harrier and Safari, and an additional skateboard platform for Avinya concept based vehicles.
