Re: Jeep Compass AT finally coming up in a 2WD variant

It's a right move from Jeep India and definitely would help it to bring in more sales numbers. I agree with someone from the thread, asking for a petrol engine as well.
With this rationalisation of the product, an additional petrol engine, a solid support system for the customer should be able to bring in the success the Compass deserves.

Well done Jeep!

Re: Jeep Compass AT finally coming up in a 2WD variant

The car continues to be extremely overpriced and under equipped. For all their marketing talk of the 9 speed AT being “best in class”, it is positively the worst gearbox in this price range. Slow shifting, lousy logic and no sport mode. The same 2.0 MJD engine in the Harrier/Safari provides a far nicer driving experience paired with Hyundai’s old 6 speed AT.

Re: Jeep Compass AT finally coming up in a 2WD variant

The black shark trim is based on the longitude at 23.99 Lakhs ex-showroom which is crazy pricing. If anything, this black shark variant should’ve been based on the Sport trim instead with added features like maybe a pano sunroof and 6 airbags. This IMO, would give Jeep a much needed increase in sales.
Indians want features, Jeep if you’re listening that’s all you have to do at a lower price point!

Re: Jeep Compass AT finally coming up in a 2WD variant

Where is the 9AT sourced from?

I remember that sluggish performance of the diesel AT in compass was a major negative point, so curious to know what exactly has changed

Whether it is imported or not, the 9 speed auto of the compass sucks. It lags quite a lot when you push the gas pedal and it has rubber banding tendencies in the lower gears. I initially thought it was a problem with the engine but other cars with the same 2.0 Fiat engine such as the Harrier/safari paired with a normal 6 speed auto sourced from Hyundai drive considerably better with no rubber banding like a CVT (When you press the gas pedal, the engine just revs up without the car accelerating proportionally)

I agree somewhat with the ADAS comment. The way people drive here, it isn't really as useful as the hype claims. The only ones I have found useful so far is:

1. Blindspot monitoring. Useful in highways. Not very useful for those sneaky 2 wheelers that for some reason stay beside your rear door and are thus away from the radar in the rear bumper and your mirrors.

2. Emergency braking warning. Very useful if you are searching for a parking spot or such and aren't paying full attention to the car in front. Haven't faced any false warnings yet.

Lots of expensive cars had even better implementations of ADAS before the XUV700 made it mainstream but all of them were universally criticised, including the systems from Volvo which is probably the best among them. Even car journalists and what not used to talk about them being intrusive and having to turn them off.

This is the same ZF 9 Speed AT found in most Jeeps, Land Rover discovery, Evoque and Jaguar E-Pace to name a few. It's performance depends on how it is tuned.

That's the point, doesn't matter how well it performs in other vehicles, it's not really the "best in class" in a Compass.

Have Jeep reduced prices on some variants? The existing Limited variant ( there is only one right now) was around 37L OTR Bangalore and the new Limited variant seems to be cheaper by around 50k.

Secondly, any idea what does the Longitude (O) get over the regular Longitude variant?

Even though the introduction of 4x2 in the diesel AT has been really delayed, its never too late. But prices remain a bit high. For reference, i bought the Diesel 9AT 4x4 Compass—5th Year anniversary edition ( basically the Limited version with almost the same interiors and exteriors of Model S) for around 34.5L OTR Bangalore just one year ago. And the same variant is nearly 2 lakhs more right now.

When is the embargo lifting?
Why so much suspense on this change. Many articles point out to change in Suspension, transmission tuning etc…
Could not understand what’s the use in holding up the details when what you want is to reach the details of the upgrades to wider set of audience before the euphoria dies.

Embargo is for providing fair opportunity to the media houses, not for suspense buildup.

Media reviews are held over 2-3 days usually and without an embargo, only those invited on Day 1 will be able to get any views.

As per today's news article in BS, Petrol is likely to be re-introduced.

I have read somewhere that, since the gearbox needs to be at its best in the lower gears to wriggle out the slush and mud for the 4WD, it has been tuned that way so as to provide grunt in the lower gears and hence loses out its bands at higher gears.

I believe they should have a different state of tune for the 2WD variant that feels brisk at highway speeds as well. Just waiting for reviews to cover these aspects from team Bhp and other honest reviewers.

Jeep Compass 4x2 AT review

Jeep Compass AT finally coming up in a 2WD variant-20230918044538_webai.jpg

Quote:
Except for the removal of the 4x4 drivetrain, which makes the Compass diesel 4x2 auto a front-wheel-drive car, there is no real change.
Quote:
For all practical purposes, the 4x2 drives similarly to the 4x4
Quote:
The 9-speed gearshift is smooth but quite lazy to shift and takes its time swapping cogs. It’s a gearbox more suited for a slow-speed trail than a quick overtake on the highway.

At slow speeds, the ride feels a bit stiff and lumpy
