Dear All,

I recently purchased a new Tata Safari XZA+ and opted for 2+2 warranty. I am reading a lot of Tata Safari on team bhp and posting too, and I fond that since launch there have been many combinations of standard plus extended warranties on Safari such as 3+2 and now 2+2. Was wondering at what point they changed from 3 years to 2 years standard warranty and why?

That made me think to float this thread to look at what Standard and extended warranties are available on other makes and models.

Owners here can share detail as listed- mine as example

Car - Tata Safari (New)
MFG Year - 2023
Standard Warranty - 2 Years / 100000 KMs

It was mostly 2 yrs and 75k KMs and after the launch of BS 6.2 they made 1L kms standard with 2 yr warranty and extension with another 2 yrs.

I always go for the maximum extended warranty for all my cars, as well as electronic appliances (usually get 5-year coverage for laptops, ACs etc.).

I don't know about the standard warranty coverage, but can tell you the extended warranties we've taken:

BMW 530d: 6 year extended warranty.

Thar 4x4: 5 years including extension. Mahindra should extend this to 6 - 7 years like other OEMs. 5 years is way too short.

Skoda Superb: Extended to 6-years. They've recently introduced 8-year anytime warranties and you can bet we'll be taking that (with Skodas, you need the max possible warranty you can get).

Nissan Sunny & Mahindra Classic: Out of warranty, out of production :). Too old.

I too am a proponent of taking extended warranty.

I too am a proponent of taking extended warranty.

Maruti Swift 2011: Standard 3 years Extended to 5 years
Maruti Swift 2013: Standard 3 years Extended to 5 years

It would be equally interesting to learn if this has paid off for you over your various years of ownership beyond the standard period : )

VW Vento

Standard: 4 years
Extended: 3 additional years

BMW 3GT: October 2015
Extended warranty up to 5 years and 60,000 kms.

Jeep Meridian: June 2022
Extended warranty up to 5 years and 100,000 kms.

I can't recall what the default warranty was. I think it was 3 years perhaps for each of the above. In the case of the BMW, I had coupled this with 5 year BSI (service included) pack as well.

Renault Kiger 2023

Standard warranty: 2 years/50,000 km
Extended warranty: 7 (5+2) Years/150,000 km

Car - Chevrolet Beat LT
Year - 2010

Standard Warranty - 3 years or 1 Lakh KMS
Extended Warranty - 5 years or 1 Lakh KMS

Car: Hyundai Tucson GLS AWD
Purchased: Nov 2021

Standard Warranty: 3 years
Extended Warranty: 2 additional years.

Car: Skoda Octavia 1.8 tsi

Got my Mechatronic unit replaced under anytime warranty in July 2023

Car: FIAT Grande Punto 1.3 MJD Emotion Pack (top variant) 2010
Standard Warranty: 2 Years
Extended Warranty: 2 Years
Warranty claim: clutch slave cylinder (not honoured), steering rack leakage (not honoured).

Car: FIAT Grande Punto 1.3 MJD Active (Base variant) 2013
Standard Warranty: 2 Years
Extended Warranty: Did not opt (2 years EW offered)
Warranty claim: noisy steering rack (not honoured).

Car: S-Cross 1.5 petrol Zeta (mid variant) 2020
Standard Warranty: 2 Years
Extended Warranty: Did not opt (2 years EW offered)
Warranty claim: interior plastic trim broken by ASC and cheap plastics (not honoured).

As long as I own hatchbacks from budget segments, I’ll stay away from extended warranties. Gives me flexibility to choose service at FNG plus no terms and conditions of extended warranty thrown in face at the time of claim.
