According to a media report, Tata Motors will soon launch the Punch CNG in the Indian market. It is said that production of the CNG version is already underway.



The Punch CNG will be Tata's fourth CNG model after the Tiago, Tigor and Altroz. It will compete with the recently launched Hyundai Exter, which is also available with a factory-fitted CNG kit.

The Punch CNG will also feature Tata's dual-cylinder CNG technology with two smaller CNG tanks of 30 litres each. It allows the tanks to be fitted in the boot floor, which helps free up a lot of luggage space.

The Punch CNG will be powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It puts out 76 BHP and 97 Nm in CNG mode. When running on petrol, the engine produces 84 BHP and 113 Nm.

The Punch CNG is likely to be offered in multiple trims, details of which, will be revealed closer to launch.

Expect a set-up similar to the Altroz as showcased in the auto-expo!

Scoop! Tata Punch iCNG to get voice-assisted electric sunroof

Tata Motors is gearing up to launch its fourth CNG model, the Punch iCNG, in India. Today, we can share new details of the upcoming car, including its feature highlights.



We've been told that the Punch iCNG will be equipped with a voice-assisted electric sunroof. This feature is likely to be offered on the 'Accomplish' and 'Dazzle' variants. It might also get a front centre armrest and a rear USB Type C charging port.

The top-spec CNG variant of the Punch is expected to be the 'Dazzle' trim. The car is said to have a ground clearance of 187 mm, and thanks to Tata's dual-cylinder CNG technology, boot space is rated at 210 litres. It also gets a spare wheel, which is said to be mounted under the chassis. Other CNG-specific features include an auto switch, leak detection sensor and a single ECU.



The Punch CNG will be powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It puts out 76 BHP and 97 Nm in CNG mode. When running on petrol, the engine produces 84 BHP and 113 Nm.

Reports suggest that production is already underway, but Tata is yet to announce a launch date for the Punch iCNG.

Any news of an AMT with CNG? Not sure why this combination is not available from any of the car manufacturers.
I find this confusing as one will find petrol automatic cars retrofitted with CNG and those do work well!

Tata Motors has launched CNG variants of the Punch crossover. The Punch iCNG is available in five variants with prices starting at Rs. 7,09,900 (ex-showroom).



The Tata Punch iCNG is based on the ALFA platform, and uses Tata's dual-cylinder CNG technology. The cylinders are located below the luggage area allowing the valves and pipes to be protected under the load floor. Tata claims that this setup enhances the rear body structure, and the 6-point mounting system for the CNG tanks provides additional rear crash safety.



The Punch iCNG comes with several features, including a voice-assisted electric sunroof, front seat armrest, USB Type C charger and a shark-fin antenna. The car gets automatic projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, rain-sensing wipers and a height-adjustable driver's seat.



The Punch iCNG is powered by a 1.2-litre engine that generates 72 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 103 Nm @ 3,230 rpm in CNG mode. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.



The Punch iCNG is equipped with a single ECU and features 'Direct Start' in CNG mode. It also gets a micro-switch to keep the car switched off at the time of refuelling, while thermal incident protection cuts off CNG supply to the engine and releases gas into the atmosphere.
