2023 Toyota Rumion MPV launched in South Africa

Toyota has launched 2023 Rumion in South Africa. It's a rebadged version of the Maruti Ertiga, which is expected to be introduced in the Indian market later this year.

The Rumion gets a few cosmetic changes for the 2023 model year. These include a new grille similar to that of the Innova Hycross and a redesigned front bumper. It also gets newly designed diamond-cut alloy wheels, but the rear looks identical to the Ertiga.

Ertiga owners will find the interior quite familiar. It shares the same dashboard layout but gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the centre, a twin-dial instrument cluster and a flat-bottom steering wheel.

In South Africa, the Rumion is offered with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 103 BHP and 138 Nm. The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The Indian version is expected to get the same powertrain.

I doubt Toyota or Maruti is going to change the existing powertrain and transmission options.

Current Ertiga has a 6 speed AT, why would they go back to the old 4 speed AT?

On a side note, is there any chance of Maruti rebadging the Innova Crysta (Diesel)?

Toyota Rumion grille plus black interior looks better than Maruti Suzuki ertiga. I have never been fond of the beige interior in the Ertiga, as it tends to attract and show dust easily.
Black interior makes it look sporty and sophisticated. Grille which is inspired from hycross looks better than chrome grille in my opinion.

Re: 2023 Toyota Rumion MPV launched in South Africa

I strongly believe that it is long overdue for these companies to put an end to the practice of releasing fake products. Merely altering the logo and making superficial changes to the same vehicle is disappointing. While sharing technology among manufacturers is acceptable, they should focus on creating new cars based on the acquired technology rather than resorting to logo changes and selling the same product repeatedly. Personally, I find this practice incredibly frustrating and believe it should be stopped in India

Are manufacturers lacking the ability to design and market new cars? If they persist with such selling practices, how can there be fair competition? Take the example of the Ertiga, closely associated with MS (Maruti Suzuki). Merely changing the name and logo to Toyota cannot elevate the car to Toyota standards overnight. While the Ertiga is not unreliable, each manufacturer has its own unique culture, and they should refrain from continuing this practice to preserve their individual USPs (Unique Selling Points) instead of diluting them.

Rumour: Toyota Rumion India launch in August

According to a media report, Toyota is likely to launch the Rumion MPV in India next month.

The Toyota Rumion is essentially a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. It will be positioned under the Innova Crysta in Toyota's MPV line-up.

Toyota recently introduced an updated version of the Rumion in South Africa. It gets a new trapezoidal grille similar to the Innova, an all-new front bumper and new diamond-cut alloy wheels.

The interior of the Rumion is identical to the Ertiga. It features an all-black dashboard with a floating touchscreen infotainment system in the centre, a twin-dial instrument cluster and a flat-bottom steering wheel.

Powering the Rumion will be the familiar 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 103 BHP and 138 Nm. It will be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The South African version though, gets a 4-speed automatic option.

What about CNG option? The CNG Ertiga has a long waiting period. One of my relative was interested in CNG Ertiga, Rumion could be a good option for him to get hold of early if he book early.

Re: 2023 Toyota Rumion MPV launched in South Africa

Will the Rumion also have a six-seater variant and body-kit as an additional accessory to match XL-6?

Will be thankful to some of the owners of Ertiga / XL6 6AT if they can share a long-term review especially about the gearbox and mileage.

Re: 2023 Toyota Rumion MPV launched in South Africa

The South African version has the K15B engine, where the Indian Ertiga now has K15C engine. Hence the difference in power figures and the auto box.

In my eyes, I feel the Rumion has a better front grill.

Waiting for the part numbers. Ertiga model conversions will be the next hype.

Only point even if very small but noteworthy is if launched in India, it will give option of black interiors + bench seat, which is not available currently.

Re: 2023 Toyota Rumion MPV launched in South Africa

The front grill has better integration in Rumion than Ertiga.

Looks like the planform sharing strategy will found more applications in coming future. Is there any news on Brezza variant of Toyota (urban cruiser)?
