Re: 2023 Toyota Rumion MPV launched in South Africa

Looks like a mini Crysta from front.

Any idea what kinds of difference would there be in the Total Cost of Ownership in owning a Maruti product or the same rebadged as a Toyota?

Heard that getting Genuine Toyota parts outside the dealership is a little difficult unlike how one can approach a Maruti's MGP store and get them.

Re: 2023 Toyota Rumion MPV launched in South Africa

Oh man, this is so painful to watch. A global giant like Toyota doesn't consider our market worthy enough to introduce anything from their global portfolio rather just rebadge mass market cars from Maruti.

Thankfully atleast VW group tried building some product for us and even the uber-lazy honda is coming up with something irrespective of how basic it is. Re-badging is just so not done.

Re: 2023 Toyota Rumion MPV launched in South Africa

Wonderful, with Ertiga having a long waiting period, this will enable customers who don't mind paying a premium for the T-badge if it means faster delivery.

Just like Invicto is the tatkal Innova Hycross, I see many Ertiga customers going for this. One more point is I'm seeing a lot of Glanza CNG taxis. Meanwhile, when I last went to the Nexa outlet, I was strictly told no for a yellow plate registration.

Re: 2023 Toyota Rumion MPV launched in South Africa

Since the Innova brand is now watered down by making Invicto available to Suzuki, Toyota could have called this as Innova Lite or Innova Prime.

On a serious note Toyota is ramping up the number of dealership with full fledged service centers making way to smaller towns too. With starting price of cars in Toyota showroom dropping, its good to see Toyota strengthening its sales/service network. As an example, previously between Mangalore and Mysore there was zero sales/service outlets, now we have in Puttur, Madikeri, Kushalnagar, Hunsur ! That's a Toyota Showroom/Service every 50KM!

I remember the old Qualis ads after watching the interiors of this car. The engine specs are not impressive either. Toyota - what's your target market? Please start looking at India as an equal market at least now.

Re: 2023 Toyota Rumion MPV launched in South Africa

The sole reason for the 2023 Crysta to get a new grill was so that the older grill could be fitted on the Ertiga...

Look at the grill on the Rumion and 2021 Innova Crysta

Agree with @PrideRed, the Innova brand has already been diluted, the Rumion should have been given the Innova + suffix name instead...

Re: 2023 Toyota Rumion MPV launched in South Africa

One day we'll have a Maruti Suzuki Land Cruiser and Vellfire!
Any guesses what their synonyms would be?

Jokes apart, there is nothing wrong in the badge re-engineering between these two manufacturers. Only except, it seems like Toyota isn't offering much to swap!

Honestly they should have gone for XL6 insted of Ertiga, more premium features and interiors is what customers expect from Toyota not something barebones

Yes, XL6 would have given Toyota a better platform for introducing premium features.

Re: 2023 Toyota Rumion MPV launched in South Africa

Interestingly, the product is placed under the "SUV" category on the Toyota India website, sharing space with the likes of Hilux and Fortuner.

Not sure if it is intentional (Toyota wants to associate only the Innova brand with MPV) or a mistake (considering the product is new).

Re: 2023 Toyota Rumion MPV launched in South Africa

Another Maruthi product being rebadged as Toyota. Worlds second largest automobile manufacturer are just rebadging cars and are neither building some product for India nor getting a global product of theirs in the worlds third largest automobile industrial country.
I hope some reform comes up in the future and their hard earned tagline of Quality Revolution be justified as always .

Re: 2023 Toyota Rumion MPV launched in South Africa

Side airbags?

Did the Ertiga get those in some recent updates?

Or did Toyota got the digs on the export spec Ertiga?

Or did they upload the wrong pics by mistake? Since the whole launch is a Photoshop job?

Re: 2023 Toyota Rumion MPV launched in South Africa

Suzuki and Toyota are going hammer and tongs at the market and the results can be seen in their sales chart.

Sure, purists don't like this strategy/synergy, however it is good news for people who were looking for Japanese only products but had limited options.

If Honda Elevate gains traction that would be sort of resurgence for the Japanese manufacturers.

Re: 2023 Toyota Rumion MPV launched in South Africa

I'm waiting for the Land Cruiser to be sold by Maruti. It should be at least 30 lakh less than Toyota

I will be so happy to pick one!
