If this continues, Toyota will never launch any of its global offerings, Why work at all when you can outsource manufacturing to your partner.

re: Toyota’s version of the Maruti Fronx to launch around festive season

Fantastic news and it has cheered me up to no end! NOT. The duo may as well have their showrooms next to each other in the future.

What ever happened to the 7 seater Corolla Cross. If there were indeed working on it, I don't understand the logic behind it when they have already lauched the Innova Hycross. At the end of the day there's absolutely no proper Toyota in the 15-30 lakh OTR segment for people who are willing to spend and wish to buy one. Not even Daihatsus..

This is great for Toyota dealers- as they have another product to sell. And this strategy must work in getting incremental sales for a Toyota/MS product compared to a MS only product, since Toyota/MS continue doing it for so many products.

However, it just feels so lazy.

re: Toyota’s version of the Maruti Fronx to launch around festive season

Classic example of taking customers for granted..! No need to innovate or engineer new products, rebadge, redesign the head & tail lamps, add a new feature, delete some and a give a new name...viola, we have a new product to launch.

No wonder the likes of Hyundai & Kia are running circles around Toyota in whichever segment they have a competing product; cos they innovate and make a earnest attempt to bring in a new vehicle with its independent personalities despite having a sister product.

Toyota products were globally considered bullet proof and known to outlive their owners.
With this new cross badging concept, they will surely give the owners a chance to outlive the products.

The “Toyota Fronx” to arrive in May 2024!

Quote:
It will be the fifth shared model between Toyota and Maruti.

Toyota could benefit from having its own Fronx as its new sub-4m ‘SUV’ offering.

Will likely share its engine options with the Maruti Fronx, including the CNG powertrain.

It’s also expected to have the Fronx’ features including the 9-inch touchscreen and auto AC.

Launch expected in 2024, with prices likely to start from Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom).

Toyota trademarks 'Urban Cruiser Taisor' nametag

Toyota has filed a trademark for the 'Urban Cruiser Taisor' nametag. It could be used for Toyota's version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx.

The rebadged version of the Fronx is likely to be launched this festive season. It could receive a few cosmetic changes, including a revised front grille and bumper.

The interior of the Urban Cruiser Taisor could be largely identical to the Fronx. It will come equipped with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera and a heads-up display.

The Urban Cruiser Taisor is expected to be offered with the same engine options as the Fronx. These include a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 89 BHP and 113 Nm and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit that puts out 99 BHP and 148 Nm. Both engines come with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. While the 1.0L engine gets an optional 6-speed automatic, the 1.2L unit could be equipped with a 5-speed AMT.

Re: Toyota’s version of the Maruti Fronx to launch around festive season

This is beyond disappointing. Is the Indian car market such a low IQ market in Toyota's opinion , that we will buy re-badges ? What next ? A Jiminy Re-badge and sell it as the FJ Cruiser to fool Indians ?

Somehow TKM has lost the plot completely and want to just focus on Innova and Fortuner to bring in their fortunes.

Re: Toyota’s version of the Maruti Fronx to launch around festive season

Why can't Toyota bring vehicles from their global portfolio to India? They have RAV4, Yaris Cross, Corolla Cross, C-HR, Crown, Mirai, Siena, etc available in other countries. I mean it has come to this level that one of the most reliable brand like Toyota has to collaborate with Maruti-Suzuki to gain market share in India.

On the other side, I also think it has more to do with the country. OEMs know how cost competitive our market is, and an average buyer is in the market with 15-20lakhs INR or less. Toyota can not launch vehicles like RAV4, Crown, etc under 20lakhs, and how many buyers they can expect if they launch it higher than what most buyers can afford?

Just curious what if Maruti now asks for a Fortuner alternative? Will Toyota give in?

Toyota will launch their true offerings only in segments where Suzuki and Hyundai does not have presence. In segments where Suzuki and Hyundai operates, nobody will pay the Toyota premium. Suzuki and Hyundai are almost as reliable and offers more features. They have learned their lesson with Yaris. Now they will only launch badge engineered cars in those segments.

Warning long post

You are absolutely right. Toyota has burned their hand on everything in this country.
They launched two world top sellers Corolla and Camry. But lack of features and price conscious buyers kept masses away. Indian people bought Elantra (feature rich), Octavia and Superb (Timeless European design langauge and build quality) more than the Toyota twins.
The heck they even tried thier hands on. Made of India cars Etios twins. They sold well initially but then lost favours because the interiors were not everyones taste.
Then they launched Yaris, they completely missed the mark on the price. Ciaz, City, Verna and VW twins outsold it hands down.
The only segments they succeeded was where there was no competition, Innova (initially Qualis) and Fortuner.

Then came the year 2019, the model and technology sharing pact was agreed and to seal it the share swap - Toyota acquired 4.94% stake in Suzuki valued at 96 billion yen. At the same time, Suzuki bought a smaller stake (0.21%) in Toyota worth 48 billion yen - This would be the best decision both the organizations made.

Reason -
Maruti Suzuki's POV - BS6 regulations were right round the corner. Maruti Suzuki was faced with dilemma to make their work horse 1.3 ltrs diesel BS6 compliant or ditch diesel altogether. They decided to go with later. A lot was written in the year 2019 - 2020 that Maruti is dead they will lose so much sales due to lack of diesel engine option. Maruti plugged the gap with CNG cars. And awaited for the Toyota hybrid technology to be road tested in India for launch. Also it helped them launch proven vehicles in segments and the price brackets they never got success in. Grand Vitara and Invicto were the first two outcomes.

Summary - Maruti got hybrid tech without having to through the pain of research plus they saved on not going through the pain of researching a BS6 diesel engine. They didn't have to ground up design cars in the segment they had least experience in.

Toyota's POV - Technology was never a problem for them. They are the pioneers in building the most reliable cars in the world. The issue as mentioned before was the price point. And this is what Maruti has mastered over the year fuel efficient cars at the right price. So they didn't have to build ground up cars in the price sensitive segments.

Summary - Toyota was getting nowhere with their globally successful cars and were limited to two top sellers for making them survive. They swapped technology for reliable and trusted cars

Finally for all those disagreeing with the rebadge strategy. Have you thought Hyundai - Kia, VW-Skoda, Nissan - Renault are doing the same thing. The only difference being their cars share lesser similarities on the looks front

Re: Toyota’s version of the Maruti Fronx to launch around festive season

Someone please stop rebadging funda, especially across different brands.
Comparing with VW-Skoda and Hyundai-Kia are not appropriate. These combo are well established having the same parent company and bound to exchange ideas and technology whether its good or bad!

In the name of capturing better market share, Toyota is definitely diluting its brand value by rebadging Maruti Suzuki India cars. Not sure, when this crazy thing would stop!
