Have you seen an AMT gearbox above the sub 4 meter category? You cannot even imagine. That is a suicide in anticipation. Better go with only manual than offering one. Taxes push prices high at this segment and it will turn out to be a disaster.

Re: Scoop! Tata Curvv test mule spotted in India for the first time

As per Vivek Srivatsa, Tata's chief commercial officer, Curvv EV will be available before the festival season 2024. He specifically said it would be launched before Dussera. So, we can expect September 2024 to be the launch month for Tata Curvv.

Not sure. TATA has broken both the 10 lakh barrier and 15 lakh barrier for AMTs over the years.

In an ideal world, TATA may find a way to mate a 6spd TC or one of the Punchglide DCTs to the diesel. But we all know that is not going to happen. Like you said, better offer only manual in diesel. Then again, the automatic diesel market cornered by the Koreans would be too juicy for TATA to pass up.

Many keep thinking that DCT is reserved for petrol powertrains only. They can be tuned to the diesel engines too. Also TATA needs economies of scale to justify manufacturing, it will be ideal for TATA to offer one as a option. As they are made locally and not bought off the shelf, like the Hyundai sourced TC GB for Harrier and Safari, it will also be economical for TATA motors as it's their JV that's making the gearbox.

Reason being there were rumours that the torque limit for the DCT was 200nm, which is the torque figure of the Altroz diesel, itself the detuned version. If TATA develops another DCT for larger output engines, then nothing like it.

Re: Scoop! Tata Curvv test mule spotted in India for the first time

No matter how much Tata screams that this is an SUV, even a blind person can see that Curvv looks like a sedan on stills. And let’s not get the likes of X6 and GLE coupe into the styling discussion, for this one is half their size. Plenty of Tigor vibes in the way the rear silhouette swoops down and abruptly ends. Granted, it’s a bold attempt by the company. But this polarising design is going to be up against the all conquering Creta-Seltos duo.

Re: Scoop! Tata Curvv test mule spotted in India for the first time

In my personal opinion, off-late TATA designs are too predictable and common across all their portfolios, this will turn out to be a bit risky because in 2 years down the lane, their cars will start to age very fast. The initial craze that I had seeing Curvv a year back is gone now. The front end has started to turn out to be a bit boring.

Coming to Curvv, strange that they are planning to launch only with manual diesel, that could be the reason for them to expect only 48K numbers a year. They need to launch diesel AT and Petrol versions ASAP, the market is driving toward AT, and the manual-only option without petrol will be a huge disadvantage for TATA compared to the Koren twins who are ruthless in this segment by showing no mercy whatsoever.

Re: Scoop! Tata Curvv test mule spotted in India for the first time

Considering that this is just a Nexon with a bigger boot, I think they can price it aggressively - even after factoring the higher tax bracket compared to the Nexon. An electric version without tax difference can maybe priced just about 50k more than the Nexon EV

Wonder why they didn't just make a Nexon XL styled like a regular 4.3 m car than adopting a coupe kind of styling. The coupe should at least have had a reworked beltline.

And if the powertrain is the same as compared to Nexon, do they expect people to pay a couple of lakhs just for 72L of more bootspace?

A point to add, i have been keeping a tab on the curvv for sometime and i am pretty sure the front fascia won’t look like this . The 3d renders based on patent filing look crude. ( nothing like the one we saw at the expo)

And the car shall look much like the auto expo unit barring a few changes. Rest, just a few months and we will have the units rolling out.

Very good question and looks like closer we get to the launch date there are many concerns popping in if this is the right product(I am still hoping this turns out well and beats Koreans).

IMO buyers would be all confused for a 5 seater TATA, people will either undercut their budget for a Nexon or go overboard and buy harrier making CURVV a low volume product.

Strangely, yes - but they're the folks looking to stand out / buy something that pulls their heart strings. People are paying a lakh or so extra for Exter over Nios right ? Just like that. Form matters for people who are looking to buy " aspirational " products.
