They can only price this close with an inaugural offer and only with an electric variant. Once it comes to ICE, tax brackets come in the way. More than 3.99 meters means falls in Creta-Taigun-Elevate category. Taxes will bump up and will land at a higher bracket.

Also TATA plans to give it a bigger battery pack of upto 50-55 kw. So to price it bang, they should scrap the LR variant of the Nexon to bring the prices down and then price this competitively. Anyway EV LR is a tight place with the rear floor height raised to fit in the extra 10kw of battery pack. I am in for scrapping the LR variant to promote CURVV. Large sized families with feel the squeeze.

There is one more car that will soon squeeze into the gap. That is the SIERRA EV. So they will have some overlapping with the top variant of the lower model and base of the higher. That is inevitable if you want to give a wider range

Please do not rear too much into the image from patent. That is from an upcoming Altroz/Altroz EV/derivative. Please look at the door pad design and rear seat design which are same as existing ICE Altroz.

My comparison is strictly on the ICE versions. A base variant and a base+1 costing around the price of the top-end Nexon or top-1. And the top end costing around the price of a base model Harrier. Very doable.

re: Scoop! Tata Curvv test mule spotted in India. EDIT: Curvv Petrol launched at Rs. 10.00 lakh

Our friendly neighbourhood Autospy caught up with a Curvv test mule yesterday on the streets of Pune.

This test car was accompanied by a Punch EV test mule in front of it.

Thanks, @RavenAvi .. any idea if this was an ICE or EV ? That tail pipe looks a bit small for a single outlet for a 2.0 litre engine (if it will have a 2.0).

It ia a 1.2 litre 3 cylinder turbocharged engined car. The tail pipe is a jugaad that confirms it is an electric mule. Never is a tail pipe curves so much acutely.

Tata Curvv in spy pics, again:

Quote:
the Curvv’s test mule had a windshield-mounted camera hinting at the provision of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), which will include features like lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control. The test mule also showed the Curvv to be closer to its production-ready form as it had LED lighting (split headlight setup at the front) and alloy wheels in place.

I think, I spotted the same test mule very close to the Tata plant here in Chinchwad, Pune. It's recorded on my dashcam. Need to fetch it.

One thing which I noticed was, the car had a auto dimming IRVM and a full digital console.

There were four people onboard.

re: Scoop! Tata Curvv test mule spotted in India. EDIT: Curvv Petrol launched at Rs. 10.00 lakh

Tata Curvv yearly sales aimed at around 48,000 units. (36k units ICE)

The Curvv SUV will go on sale after the Harrier EV,

Quote:
Curvv to arrive in electric guise first
Petrol, CNG variants to follow later
Quote:
Tata Motors has set a sales target of around 48,000 units for the Curvv SUV. This will be split between its EV and combustion engine iterations. The Curvv EV, will go on sale first and as many as 12,000 units a year are expected to be built. The remaining 36,000 units will be the ICE-powered Curvv units. The Curvv will roll out from Tata Motors' Ranjangaon plant, which also manufactures the Nexon.
Quote:
The Curvv EV is expected to get a range of 400-500km and a dual motor set-up with all-wheel drive. Meanwhile, the petrol version will follow with the 125hp, 225Nm, 1.2-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine that was showcased at the Auto Expo 2023. The petrol version will be offered with both manual and automatic gearboxes. There are talks also about a CNG powertrain joining the line-up at some point.

re: Scoop! Tata Curvv test mule spotted in India. EDIT: Curvv Petrol launched at Rs. 10.00 lakh

With TATA going with a conservative 4000 Curvv's/month, it would be interesting to see the price at which they position it. Looks like they are going to go with a more premium positioning. A starting price of ₹20 lakh for EV and ₹15 lakh for Petrol version should be the minimum expectation.

re: Scoop! Tata Curvv test mule spotted in India. EDIT: Curvv Petrol launched at Rs. 10.00 lakh

The targeted sales for a Creta & Seltos competitor at 3k per month for ICE variant seem very low.

Is Tata planning to position this above Creta/ Seltos price band to make space for Sierra?

What price premium is being expected over the Nexon.EV LR for Curvv EV. I'm guessing it would be within 2-2.5 lakhs variant to variant.

re: Scoop! Tata Curvv test mule spotted in India. EDIT: Curvv Petrol launched at Rs. 10.00 lakh

Perhaps Tata is not sure about the response to this body style, which may look more like a Sedan than an SUV. I know it's supposed to be the Coupe SUV but it's yet to be seen how the general public will perceive it and this will be first such offering in a mass market segment. I can't think of any other reason to have such a low target. Even the Elevate sells around 5000 units per month with a single Petrol engine.

Also it's surprising that the Autocar article doesn't mention the diesel engine. Why would Tata not use the 1.5 Diesel for the Curvv?

The sales volume is too low if you go by the market numbers of it's competitors. They pitch this car against the Creta, Seltos, Elevate, et al. This segment is huge on volumes and TATA should target atleast 6-7k per month that comes to around 70-80k PA., that is nearly double of the projected. Maybe this is a one shift manufacturing plan and can scale up to three shifts as required that may push up production to 1.2L PA.

Another issue is, the plant is jointly owned by FCA. I thought the production maybe shifted to the new plant at Sanand which was acquired from Ford. But I am doubtful the production will be at Ranjangaon plant as it is already packed with production capacity constraints. Tata motors sales are stuck at 48-50k per month and are unable to go higher due to the reason as all their plants are running at peak capacity. This seems to be the reason TATA has completely shelved its exports plans.

I previously read that there was a thought that they may shift Nexon production to this plant too as the Ranjangaon plant is packed and FCA seems to be in no hurry to increase it's product portfolio. They seem to be happy with the profits though sales numbers are abysmal.

We may need to take this news with a pinch of salt and wait for things to fold out for a clear picture.

Better aim low and do better than aim high and get it labelled as a flop. Its an unconventional design, for sure. Tata knows this and is, pehaps, being conservative in sales targets. Nexon was unconventional too, but this is them taking an extra step. The Sierra will be the boxy SUV which will definitely grab more eyeballs.
