The product is going to have its work cut out for sure.
I think it will straddle both segments, with the base variant being cheaper the top variants of the Nexon and the top variants rubbing shoulders with the base spec Harrier. While the mid variants (VFM variants) compete with the Creta, Seltos and Elevate.

re: Scoop! Tata Curvv test mule spotted in India. EDIT: Curvv Petrol launched at Rs. 10.00 lakh

In order to make this a compelling buy over the new Nexon, Tata needs to give a lot of differentiation.

More powerful engines for starters. We know that the Curvv will get the new 1.2 TGDI, but would we get a more powerful diesel engine?

Nexon lacks in front storage spaces. They should improve that on the Curvv. This shouldn't be just a Nexon + panoramic sunroof car.

Pricing is also an important aspect. Creta and Seltos are ruling the segment for so long. They have to price it below the Korean siblings, else they won't see Nexon like sales numbers.

TATA Curvv spied again, launch likely by mid 2024.

The vehicle in the spy shots could be testing out the new turbo-petrol unit, a CNG powertrain, or it could even be an EV. Tata Motors has used fake exhaust pipes on EV test mules in the past.

Is this basically a Nexon coupe wich we've seen in spy leaks for some time now?

I believe I caught a glimpse of this mule in the Nilgiris section late last week. Unfortunately, I couldn't capture a photo as it came quickly from the opposite direction. Can recognise it from that uplifted boot area.

Possible head-up display feature in Tata Curvv | Interior design patent suggests

Possible head-up display feature in Tata Curvv | Interior design patent suggests

Scoop! Tata Curvv test mule spotted in India. EDIT: Curvv Petrol launched at Rs. 10.00 lakh-screenshot-20231106-174250.png

Tata Motors has recently filed a design patent for a car's interior, introducing fresh design elements not seen in previous Tata models. This model is likely the Tata Curvv, set to be launched in early 2024 as a spacious 5-seater. Noteworthy features include a head-up display setup behind the steering wheel column, a first for Tata Motors cars if included in the final production.

In addition to the head-up display feature, the Tata Curvv's centre console stands out with a unique layout. It includes controls and switches near the front armrest area, along with a lower layer featuring cupholders and storage. The dashboard boasts a floating touchscreen infotainment system, and the vehicle's seat belts offer height adjustment functionality.

Expectations are high for Tata Motors to introduce more such distinctive features in the Curvv, setting it apart from the Nexon and justifying its premium price tag. The Curvv will feature a distinctive coupe SUV design, initially showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo, which is expected to carry over to the production version.

Regarding powertrain options, the Curvv is set to utilize engines similar to those found in the Tata Nexon, featuring a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Tata Motors' strategy involves launching an all-electric version of the Curvv before introducing the ICE variant.

re: Scoop! Tata Curvv test mule spotted in India. EDIT: Curvv Petrol launched at Rs. 10.00 lakh

I was able to analyse some findings from the recently filed design patent of the interiors.

First, the center console has 2 tiers, the top tier has a a small table top housing the gear knob along with the electronic break switch and mode switches. The bottom tier has cup holders along with some storage space that also may house a wireless charger. The glove box along with the elbow support seems to have been removed that looks like a sore miss. Maybe an additional elbow support will be augmented later.

The front seats come with a manual seat height adjustment lever. Power seats are still missing. Lumbar support should have been added. The rear seats have been pushed back as they are aligned much behind the door edge. Nexon seats are aligned to the level of the door. The rear door should have been made wider but that will call for additional engineering. The centre head rest should have been added.

The rear parcel shelf is too small, almost the length of the current Nexon. That shows that the trunk is compromised and not as humongous as the Skoda Octavia (atleast visually).

Interesting observations.

The centre console sure looks unique and different from other models in the segment.
  • Just pray that the rotary control is something like the iDrive/COMAND, a complete infotainment controller. Would be mighty disappointed if it just another drive mode selector with that annoying voice announcement.
  • Hope they give it individual armrests mounted on the seat sides. Much more comfortable, ergonomic and frees up space.
  • Would be interesting to see how they incorporate a manual mechanical handbrake in this setup. Or it a cursor to how the Curvv would be positioned? Only well loaded variants, no base-mid variants.
  • The rear seats do look like they have been set up too to the rear. Is it the rear wheel wells on the sides? Explains why the rear parcel shelf feels short, when most coupe SUVs have huge parcel shelves.

re: Scoop! Tata Curvv test mule spotted in India. EDIT: Curvv Petrol launched at Rs. 10.00 lakh

Tata's Curvv on road again!

Quote:
The Tata Curvv EV is expected to be launched in 2024.

Its electric version, the Curvv EV, is expected to offer a claimed range of up to 500 km.

The ICE version of the Tata Curvv will use the new 1.2-litre T-GDi (turbo) petrol engine which debuted at the 2023 Auto Expo.

It is likely to get a 12.3-inch infotainment system, 10.25-inch driver’s display and a new steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo.

Passenger safety will likely be taken care of by 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
