re: Scoop! Tata Curvv test mule spotted in India. EDIT: Curvv Petrol launched at Rs. 10.00 lakh

My thoughts,
  • Despite the new platform and the flexibility to go beyond 4m, how come Currv has so less space in the rear and poor under thigh support?
  • Also, the battery pack is lying quite low with that 190mm suspension- isn’t it a safety risk?
  • Interior mostly derived from Nexon, Harrier, Safari doesn’t feel very special anymore. And every-time I see that steering Older steerings were so classy.
  • Some good things are the new Gdi petrol and Kryotech diesel engines with DCA gearbox and very good EV range leading way to ~1000 kms range on single charge in near future.

Tata has tried to cover all bases but seems to have deliberately kept space for Sierra to be launched in Creta segment. With Currv they’re trying to carve out a space between Nexon and Sierra. Similar to what Maruti has done in hatchbacks- Celerio, Swift, Ignis, WagonR, Baleno, Fronx. Better to cannibalize within Tata rather than going to competition. Overall, this launch is a mixed bag and Currv is likely to be in a identity crisis

Diesel domination is Creta's secret sauce, 45% of sales.comes from diesels, that's ball park 8k units a month. This is precisely why the Curvv diesel needs to be priced and packaged attractively to take on the Creta.

I was thinking the same. Shocked to see the cramped rear leg room and poor under thigh support. This issue is still carried from Nexon EV.

Overall, Punch EV has better sitting position and space as per its overall length.

re: Scoop! Tata Curvv test mule spotted in India. EDIT: Curvv Petrol launched at Rs. 10.00 lakh

Watching a few YT videos, the rear space looks very tight for taller people, especially the headroom. The front seats also look small. I think anyone above 6 ft will not fit comfortably anywhere in this car. This will be a deal breaker for quite a few potential consumers.

All the EV of Tata have cramped rear space. I have tried Punch and Nexon. This flaw is carried on to Curvv. I guess battery packaging below the floor is having its impact. It seems they designed the platform for ICE and modified it to support EV.

re: Scoop! Tata Curvv test mule spotted in India. EDIT: Curvv Petrol launched at Rs. 10.00 lakh

While the Curvv EV offers a more accessible price point, the Atto 3 seems to have a clear edge in terms of build quality and battery technology. However, the long-term viability of BYD in the Indian market remains uncertain.

The Curvv's EV lower price tag is tempting especially the lower end, but the Atto 3's build and battery technology are hard to ignore. Unfortunately, i feel Tata should have given different front facing and not same as Punch and Nexon to bring the differentiation.

Which is sensible to pick, Atto3 (lower end) vs Curvv EV (Top end)?

I am still hopeful for a price reduction as I am quite sure no company would come out and say that they are going to reduce prices of their other models at such a big event.

I believe there is going to be a price war in the EV segment. For eg. Would any one buy XUV400 or ZS EV over CURVV? I am guessing the rivals would drop the prices even further which will spill over to Punch and Nexon.

CURVV EV prices are going to affect pricing of future EV launches. I am hoping that even people at BYD would be sitting up and taking note.

re: Scoop! Tata Curvv test mule spotted in India. EDIT: Curvv Petrol launched at Rs. 10.00 lakh

While I am happy for the way the Curvv is designed and packaged, the rear space might be a dealbreaker. Some of the members have pointed the same. Not ony is it a problem for the EV series, even the ICE versions seem to have the rear space compromised. Need to see if Citroen Basalt has managed to excel in this aspect.

One major gripe for me is the AC and hvac controls. I mean if Tata wanted them to feature on cars right from Nexon to Safari, they could have put some haptic vibratiion motors . That wpuld help users realize whch buttons that have touched else they coyld have altogether replaced with buttons. But no, they have to stand out from other competitors and look modern.

Hope all car brands get zome sense and package manual buttons for crucial functions atleast.

1. This is a mortal blow to the ZS EV. That’s an ageing car, and now Currv provides a bigger battery, more features and even faster charging speeds at a lower asking price

2. I see Nexon EV, and by extension, Punch EV getting a serious price cut or hefty discounts soon. As things stand, there is zero sense in going for the Nexon LR as Currv MR with more space, bigger battery, more powerful motor and faster charging is available for the same price. Same argument for Punch EV LR, as the bigger sibling is much more of a car at just 15% more than its top end variant.

All in all, a very positive move for Tata’s stagnating EV lineup. Currv fixes both of Nexon EV’s main shortcomings - the terribly cramped rear seat and the limited DC charging speeds. Currv EV comes across as a complete product for daily urban use as well as for occasional highway running. Let’s hope Tata has dotted all i’s and crossed all t’s and the product is niggle free from Day 1.
The Curvv shows the days of EVs competing with ICE are going to be upon us soon, at least for buyers looking for a comfortable automatic.

I hope the Curvv pricing pushes MG to launch cloud/Windsor EV at an even more aggressive price, given Windsor's smaller battery packs and need to compete against the market leader for EVs in India. They could position the 50KWH model at the Currv45 and use the 37-40KWH variants to target Punch LR, starting much lower than the Currv45. Like a 14-18L bracket.

Youtube videos suggest the Curvv has not fully solved the cramped rear seat and low roof problems from Nexon. The hybrid gen2 EV+ICE architecture and the love for a sloping roof at the rear seems to be hurting them.

Technically, MG Windsor EV may be a better car with a proper gen3 native/ born electric EV platform releasing more space inside the cabin. But the Indian love for SUVs goes against the Windsor's exterior design. Instead, Windsor needs to appeal to a practical + ease and comfort type mindset. Like a bigger, premium WagonR at a (much) higher price point. Design and style will not sell the MG Windsor. MG should push for an aggressive price combined with a sales campaign with messages like premium interiors, trouble free ownership experience, ease of driving/ electric is the best type of automatic for our cities, no need to ever go to a petrol or CNG station/ just takes 30sec to plug it in when you get home in the evening. That could be MG-JSW's ticket to volumes in India, and the parent company already has volumes on this platform to amortise costs. They need to get a lot of MG EVs visible on the road in India, if they want to be serious competitors.

I must say, I'm impressed with its looks and rear reminded me of AMG GLC43 Coupe and BMW X4. Tata has made an impressive attempt by bringing the Coupe design within the budget of Rs.25L.

The claimed range of 585 Kms is icing on the cake though the realistic range would be 400-450 Kms, which is more than sufficient IMO. When I saw the display car, the car was charged at 60% and the range displayed was 311 Kms.

When I sat in the rear seat of Curvv.EV, I felt that the floor height is raised while I didn't find this issue in ICE variant. When I asked the SA, he said that the floor height is raised because of battery pack.

Also, the paint quality of the display vehicle felt bit rough as if it got painted and its a typical Tata issue.

I felt Tata should've introduced Dark edition as well in Curvv, which will be a looker.
Did the showroom staff have any idea/inkling as to what the ICE prices would be like?

I personally like the styling and the interior of the Windsor more than the Curvv, but the main considerations while buying an EV are the engine power and the battery capacity/range, both of which are lacking in the Windsor compared to the Curvv.

MG will need a more aggressive price point. No way they can position a car with worse specs comparable to Curvv.

New Punch EV sits on grounds up electric platform Acti.ev; if it still has same flaws as the ICE platform, it's lack of foresight during design I would say.

Tata Nexon will be the most hit in sales with the launch of Tata Curvv. Believe the segment leader in the mid-sized SUV will remain untouched.

That allows them to Launch the Curvv again

Thus extending the Launch Cycle and staying in the news. Also ensures that Customers don't lose interest due to a potential delay in between announcement and availability.

And why not wait for the competition to show their hand?
