re: Scoop! Tata Curvv test mule spotted in India. EDIT: Curvv.ev launched at Rs. 17.49 lakh

Seems like Tata has decided to launch the diesel-DCT combination from the Curvv onwards, as a more premium offering. The diesel engine is expected to be the same 1.5L one powering the Nexon. Higher tune or same tuning is unknown as of now.

In light of fresh developments regarding the future of diesels, Tata is keeping a close eye on the future before committing to launching the diesel-DCT in any cars.

One of the reasons why they stuck to the diesel-AMT combo for the Nexon facelift was to keep the prices within reasonable limits, since the diesel-DCT combo will command a bigger premium than the diesel-AMT.

Test mules of the Nexon and the Curvv, equipped with the diesel-DCT combo under the hood, are still being extensively tested.

In other news, they are also simultaneously working on both, a 3-cylinder and a 4-cylinder GDI. More on this as and when I get them.

Thanks to our trusty birdie.

I have my money ready for a 4-CYL Turbo-GDI manual.

Tata engineers please reduce bodyroll and make it enjoyable for Indian roads. Altroz is a great handler - The CURVV should aspire to beat this benchmark

The first impression I got is a oversized sedan like car on huge wheels and ground clearance with a coupe like finish. Not my cup of tea. The harrier still is the most manly SUV ever built by Tata of right proportions and stance.

Perhaps a curv EV version with a real world range of 500+ kms and 100 kWh fast charging should be a deal sweetner. 500+ kilometres indeed is psychological barrier..

Tata Curvv prototype body shell spied inside TATA manufacturing facility, one can see the provision for retractable door handles as well. It’s true to concept, but looks like sub 4M.

When W601 came into existence with the XUV7OO, it was considered to be a replacement of XUV5OO. Mahindra was quick to respond with the statement that XUV5OO will be temporarily discontinued.

An all new SUV codenamed S301 has been in the works as a replacement of the now discontinued XUV5OO . This all new SUV (S301) which will be smaller than the defunct XUV5OO will have 5 seats and will slot in between XUV3OO and XUV7OO. The original plan was to develop a rival to the Creat jointly with Ford using the latter's B772 platform. Now that the joint venture with Ford called off, Mahindra is back to the drawing board and the S301 is most likely to use the extended wheelbase platform of the Tivoli (XUV3OO). This SsangYong X100 platform is heavy as well as expensive. With the experience and learnings it gained in designing the W601 platform, Mahindra is confident of reducing the weight of the X100 platform.

It is also to be noted that there is a Tivol XLV already existing in the International markets.

Neverthless, XUV9OO coupe is no more under consideration by Mahindra as of now and S301 is not an immediate priority for the company as they are gearing up for the THAR 5 door launch followed by plethora of Electric Vehicles already showcased to the public.

Also a comprehensive makeover of the XUV3OO is also on the cards.

I do not forsee an immediate threat either to the CURVV or NEXON from Mahindra in the immediate future.

Mahindra has already showcased the Electric version of Couple XUV700 in near production ready format, so it is ready & part of officially company announced roadmap. You can go & get it in Youtube as well !

Indeed - clear cut-outs for pop-out door handles. Picture seems to be from the Tata-FCA Jeep plant in Chakan. So things are picking up speed! Thanks for sharing. This one has been rounds on Instagram etc today as well.

No, it doesn't look like a sub4M to me at least. The car is based on an extended X1 platform - that underpins the cars - Vista-Manza-Bolt-Zest-Nexon. Its evident from the main parts of the chassis - overall shape and the A pillars swooping seamlessly till the end. But then the extension behind the rear door - the notchback - definitely takes the car over 4M. We have to remember that the Curvv will primarily land in the Creta-Seltos segment. These cars while priced high - are actually just about a foot or so longer (around 300 to 400mm) than the sub4m cars. Not as large as the Harrier etc. So - the Curvv bodyshell actually gives that exact vibe to scale. The addition of bumpers on both ends makes the car significantly longer too eventually.

Tata better get the game right with its kit, gizmos and quality in the cabin + engine & gearbox combinations. A diesel + TCAT is a must for this car to survive. It obviously is a Nexon XL (like a Manza to a Vista) and a lot of other things will have to impress the people other than its size, to take the fight to the Seltos-Creta combo.

Same structure as the Nexon till the C pillar with an extended rear. Definitely not sub 4M.

Now, as per the concept displayed, wasn't that thing supposed to have come with frame less doors??

The car will be definitely a 4m+ car and would be a ground up gen 2 EV from Tata. The car would be placed in the mid size suv segment rivalling Hyryder, Seltos, Creta, Elevate and others

It is good to see that Tata has retained most of elements from the concept shown in Auto expo 2023.

Side by side comparison of the concept and prototype body shell

This body-shell is giving me Tata Indigo vibes. Have to wait for the final product.

The prototype had air pocket in the C-pillar. I am not able to see in this spy photo. If it is not part of the shell, then again, doesn't look like there is provision for it.

If you are talking about the triangular "fixed window" between the rear door and the C pillar, that was a purely cosmetic plastic piece and meant to give the effect of a window in the concept car.

Have a look at the picture here, for a better idea of this : https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attac...re-image-8.jpg

Also see the video here from 1:37 onwards. This video is also embedded in this post https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/elect...ml#post5294551 (Tata Curvv Electric SUV concept revealed; previews Gen-2 EV architecture)

And it looks like there is a space for this plastic piece in the body that is in the image above.

Cheers,

FourWheelDrift

SO for it looks good and, yes, it seems like much of the concept is being productionized but I fear that the wheel size will kill it. If they go with 16'' wheels like they did with the Nexon, this design will look very very ugly.
Not sure what TATA is up to about this.

The Nexon facelift is already priced within touching distance of Elevate and Hyryder, and the lower models of Creta and Seltos. The EV’s pricing is right up there with the top end hybrid Hyryder as well as the top end turbo petrol DCT of Creta/Seltos. That will take Currv EV into Harrier/Safari or ZS EV territory. The product is going to have its work cut out for sure.
