Re: Kia Carnival discontinued in India; 4th-gen to arrive in 2024

Any chance of Kia taking advantage of Import Duty Policy for EV's which brings down import duty from 100% to 15% ?

That would help keep EV9 prices lower.

Off topic. Any idea if the Kia Soul would make it to India?

Last heard Kia had patent the name, post that no news.

New-gen Kia Carnival bookings open unofficially

Kia is all set to launch the new Carnival in India next month, and as per the latest reports, some dealers have started accepting unofficial bookings. They are said to be charging a token amount of Rs 1 lakh, which is refundable.

The new Kia Carnival will be imported as a CBU. It could be offered in a single, fully loaded variant, costing around Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom).

The new Carnival comes loaded with features such as dual 12.3-inch displays for the digital instrument cluster and the touchscreen infotainment system, a rear seat entertainment package, ADAS, a head-up display and 8 airbags.

In India, the MPV is expected to be offered with a 2.2-litre diesel engine, producing 191 BHP and 441 Nm, paired with an automatic transmission. It is the same engine that was offered on the previous model.

The new Kia Carnival will be launched alongside the EV9 electric SUV on October 3, 2024.

Re: Kia Carnival discontinued in India; 4th-gen to arrive in 2024

My first reaction after waiting for 1 year is Why would Kia do this to us? Bring Carnival as a CBU and that too at ₹50 lakh price.
The older Carnival sold in India was priced higher than Crysta and this new one will be priced at higher price than Hycross. Looks like Kia's benchmark is Toyota Innova for setting Carnival price. Carnival manufactured in India would have lowered down the price substantially and would have been good alternative to Hycross.

Carnival definitely has great space in all 3 rows, but at ₹50 lakh it will not find a lot of buyers. I guess Kia wants to sell the new Carnival to business owners and small budget movie stars.

As per reports, Kia will begin the local assembly of the new Carnival next year, till then buyers will get the CBU version.

Innova/Hycross and Carnival belong to different price and size segments. You cannot compare them the same way you cannot compare Kia Sonet with Kia Seltos. Toyota competes with Carnival world over with their Sienna model.

50 Lac for CBU looks competitive. I will be surprised if they can price so low after paying 60% Customs and 50% GST.

There are few options beyond Innova, until one spends over a crore. This can be a good option for private buyers if someone has to sit in the rear and does not bother about badge value.

EV9 is another good launch but I have my doubts about the numbers it will do. Nevertheless a good step by a relatively younger company like Kia to launch global models.

Toyota even after 25 Years in India continues to treat our market like a Third world country, heck even Zimbabwe has more range of Toyota cars than us

Toyota and Suzuki are the 2 sole culprits in flooding Indian market with ugly looking featureless cars over the past few decades. They surely did considered India as a third world market for some reason. However Maruti Suzuki seems to have woken up from the slumber and start putting in some efforts in modernizing their offerings off late. Thanks to Hyundai and Kia, we started to see and enjoy the latest features which are pretty standard in most of the other developing countries across the world.

But Toyota is still in that old world mindset towards India. Hope they will listen to customer demands and change for good.

I hope to see that day when Toyota launches Sienna or Honda launches Odyssey in India. They could be CKD models to start with. Both are good MPV, have lot more space on offer as compared to standard SUV (unless you go for full size SUV which is 5+ meters long like Ford Explorer). Kia designers have made Carnival look more like an SUV so it can attract more buyers in India as compared to traditional MPV/Van shape of Sienna and Odyssey.
I may not be able to buy one at ₹50 lakh, but at least will be able to look at and experience new Carnival in a showroom rather than seeing videos online.

Well, as the Germans have shown for decades, CBUs to local assembly may not mean a heavy cut in price. maybe a couple of lakhs. The only time I have seen proper price cuts befitting a CBU to local assembly transition was when Land Rover recently cut prices for models that started local assembly.

Fat chance. They are LHD models made in USA and haven't had RHD versions for decades. The Noah/ Voxy, Stepwgn, Granvia, Alphard/Vellfire straddles the needs for a large luxurious van in the RHD Asian markets. For India, we are stuck with Hycross on one side and Vellfire on the other.

If they are actually able to get it here for 50 lakhs (as a CBU), it will be superb pricing. I highly doubt it will be the case though. I think this one will end up going north of 70 lakhs OTR.

Re: Kia Carnival discontinued in India; 4th-gen to arrive in 2024

Carnival mostly might be imported from Malaysia. Its 7 seater spec cost is ~ 259000 MYR translating to ~ 51 L in India. No way this car is launching at 50L ex-showroom in India.

With Customs and GST (on ex-factory) + additional premium for CBU registration (~ 13 L); expect the on-road to be in the 4-pot 5 series, E class range.

Hi All, had gone to Kia showroom in Baner, Pune. They mentioned that new Kia carnival is expected to cost between 80-85 lacs on road, more than double of its prev gen model :(

Re: Kia Carnival discontinued in India; 4th-gen to arrive in 2024

Hi, I may sound unrealistic, but Kia would probably launch Carnival at around 40 lacs to 42 lacs ex showroom. While it is CBU, Kia can not launch it at an unrealistic price eventually kill the product.

Kia is not likely to go Skoda Superb price disaster way and would probably bring it like BYD Seal pricing strategy.
