Mercedes-Benz G 400d launched at Rs 2.55 crore

Mercedes-Benz has announced a new variant of the G-Wagon for the Indian market. The G 400d is available in two trims: 'AMG Line' and an India-specific 'Adventure Edition'. The SUV is priced at Rs 2.55 crore (ex-showroom) and customers can place their orders by paying a token amount of Rs 1.5 lakh.

The G-Wagon is one of the most iconic SUVs in Mercedes' line-up. It is characterized by its classic boxy design, which has received small and incremental updates over the years.

It will be available in four unique colours: Desert Sand non-metallic, Vintage Blue non-metallic, Travertine Beige metallic and South Seas Blue metallic.

Wasn't the diesel G wagon launched at 1.5 Cr and didn't the AMG versions cost around 2.5Cr ? Thats quite a massive price hike by MB. Although I doubt it will impact the sales much given the small numbers and its cult following.

Re: Mercedes-Benz G 400d launched at Rs 2.55 crore

G wagon has always been one of my favourite models and I would take a diesel one anyway over the petrol or even AMG variants.

One gripe I have about the G over the last decade is that it doesn't have the reliability or indestructible build that is usually associated with the G Wagon. From the engine to electrical gizmos, there has surely been a compromise in the reliability of these machines.

However, a diesel makes it slightly better in my humble opinion. The G350d while adequate, was not able to match with the performance of the V8 that completed the character of the car. However, with the new inline six-cylinder, the power figures are right up there with a V8. Of course, it won't match the character of the V8. Nonetheless, indubitably better than the previous.

I wish these cars did justice to the "stronger than time" tagline so we could pick them for way less in 20 years

The g350d makes more sense if i am being honest, it costs around 1.7 cr ex-showroom and is around 2 cr on-road.
The 400d by the time it'll be on-road will cost around 2.8 cr which makes a difference of almost 80 lakh! This doesn't justify the additional kit and power increase which can be done via a remap e.t.c too.

Re: Mercedes-Benz G 400d launched at Rs 2.55 crore

Folks, 350 had been discontinued many months back, and AMG starts at over 3,25 Ex-showroom. People who got one in 2020 and beyond can easily sell at a premium over what they paid

As I mentioned elsewhere, LC300 is 2,3, LX is 3 Cr, so why should G costs less? If we compare global prices, MB is more VFM

Re: Mercedes-Benz G 400d launched at Rs 2.55 crore

While browsing through Mercedes India's website today, I saw that the G-Class is missing. Does anyone have any idea why was it unlisted?

My current guess is that they are trying to fulfil the current order backlog before taking more bookings, but I don't think this warrants enlisting the model from the website?

Edit: Here is the response I got after chatting with MB Support through their website:
