Having introduced the i20 facelift in Europe, Hyundai has now shifted its focus to the Indian market. The updated hatchback has now been spotted testing in India.



The Hyundai i20 is expected to get a slight nip and tuck for the 2024 model year. The spy images reveal a fairly standard side profile with newly designed alloy wheels. The car is expected to get a slightly reworked front fascia with a gloss black grille and a new bumper. At the rear, the updated i20 is likely to come with a redesigned bumper with gloss black inserts and a silver diffuser.

We can expect minor changes on the interior as well, especially on the features front. The car could be equipped with a revised 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, similar to the EU-spec i20. Hyundai might also offer a factory-fitted dashcam.



The i20 facelift will use the same set of engines as the outgoing version. These include a 1.2-litre petrol producing 82 BHP and 115 Nm and a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol unit with 118 BHP and 172 Nm, paired with either a 6-speed iMT or 7-speed DCT depending on the variant.

I like the side profile, but what's with the 3 cylinder engine? Seems like earlier Auto manufacturers were giving us better engines and at cheaper price points. Now prices are going up, but engines are becoming lethargic and unrefined. Also, hope they've addressed the safety aspects and this car scores better on crash worthiness.

Hyundai i20 N Line facelift caught testing in India

Last week, a test mule of the upcoming Hyundai i20 facelift was spotted in India for the first time. Now, spy images of the updated i20 N Line have surfaced online.



Like the standard i20, the N Line version is also expected to get a redesigned front fascia. It includes a sharper-looking front grille, reworked front and rear bumpers, and new design dual-tone alloy wheels. Sporty bits like the red exterior accents, red brake calipers and dual-tip exhaust are likely to be retained.



The i20 N Line could also get a few changes on the interior, including a revised 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, similar to the EU-spec i20.



The facelift version of the i20 N Line is expected to be offered with the same 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine as before. This motor develops 118 BHP and 172 Nm, paired with either a 7-speed DCT or iMT.

Credit where credit is due Hyundai and Kia do know how to keep their products fresh and relevant.

For all the flake Hyundai recieves for it's average body shell structure they do know how to make and then keep their place in a segment and market.

This is an anti-Tesla approach where Hyundai cars get something new every 6 months.

It's great for new buyers but not for existing buyers who drop 10L on a vehicle, only to have it as last generation.

15k - 20k price hike across variants, and introduction of Era variant, which did not exist before.

I wonder how bare bones it will be! Clearly it has been launched to keep the sticker price artificially low.

I don't understand what justifies the price hike - there are no new features, just some minor external design changes.

Six airbags aside, this facelift looks downhill in almost every other way. I wonder if this is intentional as the i20 was never their cash cow anyway — and they have a new cash cow at a similar price — the Exter, and probably the N-line, which, even if it doesn't give them volumes, still enjoys better profit margins.

I'm glad I lucked out with the pre-facelift i20 with the 1.0 Turbo petrol and DCT gearbox.
